Scuba Commander

Love this place, and the owners! Amazing experience getting to learn with them and get certified! Looking forward to many more adventures with these guys!

Like many dive shops, Scuba Commander is owned and operated by people who are passionate about diving. It's not hard to get into a discussion about favorite spots, photography, or any other subject around diving.I went in to pick up a lavacore shirt for under my 3mm suit and the had plenty of them in stock in my size. Shop is brand new, brightly lit, festooned with pictures taken by the proprietors and freshly painted! Complete with changing rooms and a class room for teaching PADI certifications. Only two minor misses (one which is being corrected soon, so if this review is a little old, disregard the first), they currently can't do Nitrox and they don't have a pool on-site. They are contracted to do classes with a local university pool, so for getting your certifications it's absolutely a win, but if you just want to try out your new BCD before going on a boat dive, it might be a little more complicated.This is a great addition to Chesapeake and will save many folks a 40 minute drive to other shops in the area. Plus, with planned dive trips in the future, I think Scuba Commander has a bright future ahead of it.

In planning for a spring break trip to the Bahamas, we engaged Scuba Commander to do the instructor led education and confined water portions for PADI Open Water certification for my teenager and 12 year old sons. The proprietors, John and Annette, are by far enthusiastic and passionate about the sport and excited about promoting the sport within the community. As it worked out, they both had to work with an entire class of exuberant teenagers and did a phenomenal job patiently working with them to get them signed off.The passion they have for the sport is aptly reflected in the way they have setup the shop, and they are both very engaging and a tremendous source for well informed information. While noted in another review a lack of onsite pool, we found this to be of no real issue (at least for certification classes). SC appears to have great plans for future enhancements and dive trips and we can't wait to join them. Great outfit!
