The ice cream was delicious and there was a large variety of creative options to choose from. The place was clean, and we beat a crowd coming in, so it was easy to get a look at the flavors they had. The pricing was standard for a beach town, but generally a little pricey for what they offered. The staff was friendly and greeted guests kindly.

A good ice cream place. It was busy too and the ice cream was good. I talked with the staff about what was gluten free but I could tell they were not 100% sure of what to say. There was also no allergen guide. That said, they were super nice and it felt like a good vibe there. If I went in to a restaurant and said I was vegetarian, the waiter probably would not say "well don't get the burgers or steak" because the waiter might realize I had been a vegetarian for more than 2 minutes. But if you tell someone you are celiac in an ice cream place, they will tell you not to get the cake batter ice cream and it won't sound odd to them. Celiacs have a PhD in where gluten can hide so you are not revealing a secret when advising us not to eat cake. Anyway - my ask of the owner here is to label some things GF. For example, if the ice cream contains only cream and some artificial flavors, is that GF? A lot of imitation vanilla is not gluten free and just about anything can hide under the phrase "flavorings". If you have no clue, I would train the staff to simply say that you can't guarantee it is 100% GF. Celiacs won't love that but at least they understand the risks. Only 1% of Americans are celiac but we often direct the family where to go. After a long conversation about gluten, I was reasonably sure that what I was going to get was GF. Then, after all that, they asked if I wanted that in a cone. Ha. You can't make this stuff up.

More affordable than other ice cream shops, but I would not come back again. The ice cream was just okay (not as creamy as homemade ice cream typically is) and the flavors were not very unique. My husbands waffle bowl was also underbaked, so was soft vs. crunchy.

Amazing homemade ice cream! All 10 of us loved our flavors. We even bought pints to take back to the house and share with the rest of the family.

[Coronavirus review]They were enforcing a capacity limit for people indoors, but the line moved quickly. They had a pretty good shield up between cashier and customer and took mobile payments. I stopped in looking for original and varied flavors, which they had plenty of. I tried something called "mandarin chip", which I assumed would be mandarin orange but just tasted chocolatey to me. Not that this was bad; and I wasn't going to go inside again and ask what was up. The mint was pleasingly complex, though the chocolate chips were pretty basic. They had a bit of sorbet, but were mostly dairy ice cream. They were priced by weight and it was a pretty low price. The freezer definitely held enough intrigue to be worth checking out.

New to OBX, I scoured Yelp to find a quality Ice Cream joint to compete with Dumser's (our go-to ice cream place when we visit Ocean City Beach, MD). Wherever we ended up would have a lot to live up to, so I was dismayed as my search revealed that a lot of OBX ice cream joints were merely name brand distributed ice cream vendors versus scooping out homemade...I was very happy to find Scoops made their own!Overall, the experience was a mixed bag that sadly leaned towards more cons than prosCons: Kitty Hawk is a very crowded busy area-that being said the teens scooping couldn't handle the crowd well- the creamery offered a lot of flavor varieties but they weren't posted anywhere, we had to walk by the display to see what they offered, but with the massive line & backlog of orders being filled it wasn't easy to peek into the display. The girl told me it was my turn, and I explained I couldn't really see the flavors could I have a second until the lady in front of me moved to see what else they had, but she said she'd have to skip me and went to the next guy- so I felt very rushed, I would have liked to take my time to see all the choices, maybe even sampled one or two, but I had to hurry up and order.I settled on a large w.scoops of toasted coconut/pineapple, heavenly hash (which the girl said had nuts, marshmallows, and chocolate chips, and amarettoPro: The toasted coconut/pineapple was really creamy, with a nice balance of the coconut & pineapple, but it's all flavoring and syrup- there wasn't any shredded coconut or chunks of pineapple. The amaretto had a great almond boldness-exactly what was advertised.Con: The heavenly hash was chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips. No nuts, no marshmallow, I was misled. Very boring plain ice cream Another con, the girl scooped a very mixed balance of the three, you would assume there would be same size one of each but she gave me a massive amount of amaretto, then a small scoop of the toasted coconut/pineapple, and it felt as if she forgot the heavenly hash and just tried to fit a tiny scoop on top.My husband got a brownie bomb w.scoops of banana pudding, coffee, and salted caramel. When sampling his, I honestly couldn't tell what was coffee or salted caramel-those flavors were quite boring, and the banana pudding I assumed would be banana with wafers or something was just plain banana style ice cream (or we just got an empty scoop). The brownies were very small and the girl smothered it with too much chocolate sauce.Overall, I still prefer homemade ice cream, so I'm happy we tried them over the other ice cream joints, but I think they could tweak their recipes & train staff a bit better on how to create their products.

This ice cream does not taste homemade - I could not even finish mine. I will not return. There were no bananas in the banana pudding and no peaches in the peach ice cream. I should have known when the banana ice cream was a yellow color.
