The chairs that were the side tables. The only chairs in the room.
Door to adjoining room and entry door to the room
The amount of light, and heat, coming in the door.
Look at the light to the left of the ac. We also had to use a menu to direct the air up.
Look at the "deadbolt". A metal rod attached by string that goes about 1/4" into a hole. Ridiculous
Our cute room
Be sure to note specific check-in instructions.
We stayed upstairs in this cottage
The cottage architecture is cedar shingles...very typical coastal OBX oldie style! ^__^

Where to start? Doors stick and are hard to open. The towels didn't look clean. The shower didn't look clean. Dumpster pick up next to room will wake you up at 4am. No one was there to check me in since they use a kiosk and honestly you can't understand what they are saying. They have lobby hours and again, no one is there. Others said there was breakfast included guess what? No they didn't. Overall a pretty crappy place to stay and I would not recommend it. Everything is super out dated and though maybe they were going for a cottage feel it just felt like I went to stay with my great grandma that doesn't know when to get rid of furniture.

The rooms have outdated furniture and seemed clean enough given the price, but I was really taken aback by the check in system. I've never seen anything like this! You walk into where the check in should be, and there's a kiosk that connects you to someone in the Philippines on a kind of Zoom. It was really difficult to understand her, and I left the interaction feeling a little depressed about the world. Is this where we are heading? There was no mention of this at all on their website or anything. Rooms were a bit run-down but I expected that. The kiosk thing has GOT to go - HIRE SOMEONE LOCAL!!

I only rated this a one star because zero was not an option. There is no one actually on site; all check in and customer service is handled via a kiosk staffed by a person in the Phillipines. I am in the middle of an 8 day stay. Every single day my keycard has failed to work and I've had to get a new one. Each time I was told that the keyward was "issued wrong" and that I would not have to deal with that again. Today, after she issued me a new keycard, I asked a lot of direct questions about why this was happening, after which she asked me to dump the keycard she had JUST given me and she then issued me a new one, stating that it would work for the remainder of my stay. I then asked point blank if they had a policy of only issuing one day keycards. I asked this multiple times and she never answered yes or no, so draw your own conclusions. I then asked for the manager, some guy named Ved. Of course, he was not available and wasn't going to be available, but I could email him.A minor additional complaint is that they do not tell you that they do not service the rooms during your stay.

Things to note: the other reviews here are from several years ago. Seems the place is under new ownership. We booked online and arrived for checkin around 5pm on a Sunday. Checkin is done at a kiosk dial up to a person off premises. A room key was given to by the kiosk and we went to our first room. It had not been cleaned. There were dirty towels by the door, an overflowed trash can, and bed was unmade. My boyfriend went to the kiosk to get assistance. There was a woman standing in the parking lot and I found out that she was also waiting for her assigned room to be cleaned. An employee (on premises) was helping her and assigned us to another room. Our new room was clean and good enough for our one night stay. Problem was solved within 5 minutes. Only other complaint: we were assigned an adjoined room. I thought the door went to a closet and when I opened it, it was another person occupied room . It couldn't be opened from their side but it was still seemed sketchy if your friends weren't next door. Will not stay there again. Noted: it's the least expensive place on the beach so if you're just looking for a one-nighter or a fairly cheap trip (in comparison), this place would do.

I had an awesome stay! My husband and I booked this place last minute after a day trip to Nags Head went longer than expected. We weren't expecting much when we booked due to the last minute nature and the really cheap rate. We were pleasantly surprised! It was very clean and spacious. The bathroom was big and looked newly renovated. There was a walk in shower and plenty of linens. The sheets were clean and fresh. Overall it was very quaint and I would definitely stay here again. Pictures attached are how the room looked as we walked in!

I have NO CLUE why I did not review this place in 2011 when we visited! O__o Shame on me. Anyways, a friend has now asked me for suggestions on where to stay when visiting the OBX and I remembered how much we enjoyed our stay here. We really liked the location, because it was very tranquil and central. We would have b-fast nearby and then cross the channel into the OBX proper. The channel is about in the middle of the banks, so it was an equal distance to go to Corolla or to Ocracoke. This is an old Inn, so if you don't like antique furniture or the smell of old buildings don't visit. I hate when ppl give reviews as 'it smelled like my grandmas'. Uuuuhhhh, if a building is made of wood it will smell like old wood. Period. I love that smell and I enjoyed my stay very much. The room was VERY CLEAN and it served our purpose. We don't ask for much in a room since we only use it for sleep. So the little TV was never used. I remember that the little window AC unit had a hard time keeping the room cold, but we were fine. We don't need to sleep in a freezer :-) We loved it, I would go back to the same INN if I was to visit again.

Love, love, love this Inn. You will sleep peacefully and awake rested after the arduous trip to get here. Sunrise on beach is a tiny, beautiful drive away. Collect shells, work up appetite. This will set you up for breakfast at the Dunes Restaurant, just down road from beach. Yummy. Now explore, explore, explore town after little Outer Banks town. Return to the Inn, chill in rocking chair, sip a glass of wine. Take a nap. Ready? Walk across the street to Stripers and have the best fresh seafood, burger or steak on the Banks...waterfront dining, no less. Live band that you wish would play all night. Back to the Inn. Night-night. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Stay at Scarborough Inn and start your own tradition.

This place was such a disappointment. From the kiosks to the light to the 65 decibel readings we took off the loudest ac ever! And there was an evenly matched loud dehumidifier in the room. Then the room has the strangest bump out cut into it that I think was the office. The Indian sounding man was in there at 11:30 pm talking so loud we could hear every word he said. The lack of window blinds made sleeping impossible. The photo was taken at 2:00am. I couldn't sleep. It was like daylight in the room. I will say the room was clean! If you're taller than 5'10", you won't be able to stand under the shower. It's really low. The smoke detector was missing, pretty sure that's against the law. The "deadbolt" was a metal rod you barely stuck into a hole. Not a safe feeling at all.

Horrible automated check in kiosk. Keys that don't work and couldn't get someone to help for an hour.

We were stranded in the Outer Banks with a car breakdown. Finally found a repair shop in Manteo that could help. Called around to find hotel reservations but nothing available nearby. Then someone suggested Scarborough Inn and we were able to book the last available room for the night needed. Rebecca made an exception to her two night weekend minimum for us and in addition, let us check in early and wouldn't let us pay for the extra half day. Our room was cozy and very clean and it was such a relief to know we had a place to stay until the car was finished. Kudos to Rebecca for her kindness! We will stay here again sometime. My only suggestion is some kind of a step for the high bed - my old bad back had a tough time getting into it!
