Sal's Famous NY Pizza - Virginia Beach

A trip to Virginia Beach to attend a Wedding is what got me here. Needed something for dinner so decided to order a pizza for delivery. I prefer NY Style pizza... thin crispy crust, stringy cheese, flavourful red sauce. I searched for a nearby pizzeria that delivers and discovered Sal's Famous New York Pizza. I placed my order using the Slice app for an 18" Deluxe Pizza with special instructions to cook it well-done to ensure a crispy crust. 45 minutes later my pizza arrived. I thought the amount of time was very reasonable. And the delivery person was pleasant. The crust was as I hoped it would be. Everything else was just OK but not great. I don't think there was enough sauce on the pizza and the sauce that was on the pizza was not particularly flavorful. This supposedly had extra cheese on it but I did not feel it even had an average amount of cheese, and it certainly wasn't stringy when I took a bite and pulled the pizza away from my mouth. there wasn't much sausage and the amount of pepperoni and mushrooms was sparse. The onions and green peppers were about right. The total amount including a $3.00 delivery fee , 15%, automatic tip, a "support local" fee of $.95, plus tax, totalled $33.26 which reflected a $1.22 discount for using the Slice app.I've had much better NY Style pizza and would most likely try another pizza shop next time. This was OK but not a show stopper.

If you're looking for a hood like pizza spot this is it but if you are easily grossed out by germs this isn't the place. Always see the workers out back behind the restaurant smoking or doing other things then go back in and make food with their hands.

It's pretty average pizza, not gonna lie. Not the best, not the worst. I've had it on two separate occasions, one time I got their Bianca, the other time just regular Cheese. They tend to cook their pizza til it's done, meaning it doesn't have any color on it, and the crust is still pale. Ask for it to be well done, and you get a normal golden brown coloring along the crust. The crust itself is chewy, kinda flavorless (like you're just eating bread), and not too crisp. The Bianca pizza is honestly the most flavorless pizza I've ever had in my life, and I've had my fair share of flavorless pizza. It needed salt, it needed garlic, it needed red pepper flakes (which cost extra btw). Not to mention the dough was pale, which just made it chewy alongside the no flavor. No crispness, no nothing, was sad really. However, I did go back just to see if their regular cheese was better, and it thankfully was! I asked for it well done this time, which in my opinion, looked like just a normal bake if you got it from anywhere else. Not exactly the nail on the head, but at least it's more done than their regular way, so I'll take it. It's a good cheese pizza, I won't complain too much. Cheese was flavorful, light on the sauce, thin slice, but crust was more chewy than crispy though, and it still is not really there with flavor. Just chewing through bread really. I really want to like it, because the cheese is so good, but you just bite your way to the crust and it really lets you down. I love crust, it's probably one of the things I look forward to when eating pizza, but for me to want to rather not eat it, it's disappointing. Needless to say, I will be trying more pizza places to find that perfect one around here.

Not sure why all the hate for this place. We ordered through Uber Eats and yeah expensive but it was the best NY-style pizza we've had in VB by far.

We ordered the Deluxe pizza and wings. Over all the pizza wasn't bad at all and the crust was nice and crispy! The wings were absolutely soggy and undercooked... if we ever order again we definitely know not to mess with their wings.

The WORST pasta that has ever been in my mouth! Let me tell you why!Walked in the place and it's typical pizza spot- I wanted to try something other than pizza so I got a pasta dish! I love Italian sausage and peppers on a bed of spaghetti ! Simple right ? I have no problem with working with folks who don't understand English I'm cool with that but I placed my order and asked for cheeses and meat sauce!Just confirm my order was: Italian sausage with peppers and onions with mozzarella and meat sauces !Didn't wait long for the food - they have a special where you order 20$ worth of food you get free garlic knots! So I got that knots the dude ran out the back and was like cheese doesn't come with this dish! So was like how much to add cheese he was like it doesn't come on the dish I was like an you put it on - he was acting like he could not understand what I was saying or asking for - so i was like whatever! So I get my food and traveled on to the house ! I knew was going D E S T O RY This pasta it was nice and heavy I was looking forward to my food coma!I get to the dinner table and I opens it up and there is no Italian sausage no peppers or onions just tomatoes and these big huge hunks of meat I was like upset but I was like I can do meat balls -I made the mistake in tasted the food and it was horrible- why?The pasta is mushy - the meat balls didn't taste like meat at all it didn't taste like anything it really taste like blah like it didn't taste good at all! I'm telling you it was the worse food I have ever eaten!The garlic knots where hard as BRICKS there was nothing about this dish that was good! Nothing! As a fat person I think it's disrespectful to throw food in the trash but I threw it in the TRASH!!!! Maybe their pizza is bomb! But their pasta is TRASH!!!!!!Eat at you own risk! I

Dave is always up to finding new places for us to try out... We love pizza! He's pickier than I am when it comes to where we get our pizza from and I'm more like a teenage mutant ninja turtle... Any pizza is good lol.We stopped by here to check their pizza out and I am so glad we did. I think I like this better than primos. Dave wanted to order the biggest pizza they had to offer...omg that thing was huge! It didn't even fit in the car lol. It had to go in the trunk haha...The inside of the place is very small. They have a couple of table booths and a TV. You can eat inside but we got our pizza to go. Also got a side of their garlic bread. I didn't try it but Dave said I wasn't missing much. I really really enjoyed it. Very good pizza.

Sal's has catered our Christmas Eve for the last four years and they do it super great every time We use Sal's for pizza several times a year and have always been extremely satisfied well done

Best pizza in virginia beach !! All of there food is really good . Service is great , never had an issue ever in 10 years .

When you deal with Sals online you first must check yourself and see who you are REALLY ORDERING FROM. I ordered what I thought was a two topping pizza and what I got was a pizza with 5 extra toppings several of which my wife was allergic to.When I called the store to request a replacement I was told all the prices were different depending who you "really ordered from" (my words) and they did not make any effort to help me get the situation corrected. Regretfully the location and it's instore signage has turned into a place that looks like you may not want do deal at.Tonight I spent $49... down from my usual $70 +. Sals on South Plaza Trial did not have to spend anything to satisify a customer. We threw away a pizza we could not eat. To lose a good customer over a 14" pizza was very short sighted and probably not very good business. .
