Sai Gai Traditional Japanese Steak House and Sushi Bar

Sai Gai is a great place to enjoy authentic Japanese sushi. The staff are kind. I love the ninja roll. (It has tempura crab inside and salmon with crunch on the outside.) Their cuts of tuna are chunky. The sushi here is higher quality than the other sushi restaurants in Norfolk. This is a Japanese-owned restaurant.

I've been looking for a hibachi restaurant for so long and I'm glad I found Sai Gai. This place is really intimate. You would drive by it if you go to fast. It's across the street from Harris Teeter in Wards Corner and next door to Walgreens. It's is a super cute and sooo good! I ordered the shrimp & chicken. The boyfriend ordered shrimp , steak, and chicken. The portions are large that we had enough to take to lunch the next day. The dinner entrees are served with soup, salad, and rice. As the sushi lover I am, I ordered a side shrimp tempura. It came out smelling really fishy, but it was still great. The service was great. They kept the drinks (water, sprite , and hot tea) flowing. We will be returning ! 1000/10 recommend.

I hate to be that girl but this place was ok. I stumbled upon this place while looking for some place to eat on my lunch break around noon. Upon first opening the door the place smelled like they mopped with dirty mop water. I was hungry and I was pressed for time so I went in, I was greeted by 2 people. They were nice. I tell them I wanted to to place a to go order, and they gave me a menu. I ordered the hibachi shrimp and soup. The prices were reasonable, it was $11.95 plus tax. No customers came while I was there. I was the only customer in the building which is rare for lunchtime. The food took about 20 minutes. The food was ok. My shrimp were over cooked. The fried rice had no flavor. I don't think I will be returning.

The food was ok. The staff, appeared to be family. A mom dad and 3 teens. They were ok they just stood around and got drinks and orders. The mom seemed more kind as we were leaving. When we walked in they were just looking at us. I had a reservation (didn't need) in case it was a busy place. I would love if they had on a uniform of some sort and have their hair up in a bun. Maybe even in a hair net. The place needs a deep cleaning and renovations. The glasses were very foggy and should be replaced. It was extremely greasy from frying and dusty. The dust and oil could be seen on the glasses and alcohol bottles at the bar from our seat. There is food between the brownstone and table was old. I could go on and on but, the place needs a good cleaning. There were buckets catching water on some of the brownstones. It could be so much better if a bit of pride was taken into cleaning the establishment. I wanted to leave but, party members wanted to give it a shot. I didn't want to eat it was that bad for me.the tea wasn't good. It tasted like it was old. Like they make the sugar into a simple syrup with hot water and mix it and didn't use it with a couple of days. It was a sour like taste to it. I do not plan to visit again.

Unfortunately I came here with the intention of celebrating a more intimate birthday environment. Didn't work out like that at all. Food was mid. Presentation is not what you go to hibachi for, if you're gonna stop here and get a quick meal I guess it's middle of the pack. Otherwise, go elsewhere. It's just not worth it for the service and quality.

If I could give this place 6 stars I would I've been going to this locally owned restaurant for years you can't get a better price and the food is always consistent I walk in and don't even need a menu because the owner already knows exactly what I'm getting I highly recommend the lunch special

Restaurant is in need of an upgrade! As I sat at the table I couldn't stop looking at the grease build up on the floor and and the stains on the grill. Service was terrible! The teenager taking our request wroteDown the wrong info. I do not recommend. Iron Chef on Tidewater is better.

I was a little skeptical after reading some of the reviews but I must say we absolutely loved it! We were seated promptly and the service was great! Everyone was very friendly and attentive. Nice portions of food and the price was reasonable. The food was really good. The shrimp and filet mignon were cooked perfectly.

SO happy they are back! This is one of our favorites in the Ward's Corner OV area and we were so worried that they wouldn't open up after quarantine.They opened this week and of course, we were there. They have not skipped a beat. The meat was melt in your mouth, as usual, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention the seafood. I don't know who their supplier is, but their seafood is huge, sweet and just wonderful!

Got food poisoning from the steak shrimp and chicken. Horrible experience when I went home late that night & vomited my stomach out. Never again.
