I ordered an Almond pound cake. I remember when I would do shows at Virginia Beach and you sold your cakes. They were usually in loaf form. I received one today and I did not get an Almond pound cake. It has no taste and no almond extract. I was very disappointed.

I've been waiting for the store to open since the summer and I was excited to both have a good reason to by a cake and time to waste. We were immediately greeted when we walked in and offered some yummy samples of rum, almond and chocolate cake with lemon and raspberry drizzles. We had a ton of questions as this was our first experience with Rowena's. The lady that helped us was really patient and answered every question. We ended up with a small almond cake and it was about $31!!! It was expensive but worth it. We decided not to order drizzle as it was another $9. The packaging was beautiful and the box made us feel like we got something special. I enjoyed the cake plan but honestly don't know if I could afford it unless there was a special occasion.

Desserts aplenty, Rowena's is a fantastic place to get specialty gourmet foods from fruit pizzas, pound cakes, exotic sauces, and interesting concoctions. Their infamous pound cakes are fantastic as they are fattening and among their best are their pecan praline pound cake and their baby bundt cakes (Island, Cranberry Lemon, Zesty Orange, Buttered Rum). They ship to all locations around the US, allowing everyone else to enjoy their delights.

Upon the recommendation of a friend I drove an hour to their location to purchase a lemon pound cake for a very special potluck dinner. I raved about what I was bringing for 2 days and everyone was looking forward to it. When I purchased it I was aware how expensive it would be. I specifically asked if it was fresh and I was told it had been made that morning. We ate it the next day. I was horrified when we cut into it. It was dry, had little to no lemon flavor, and no butter taste at all at least in my opinion. I saw many plates with a cake half-eaten. I will not be going back if for no other reason then I expect butter to be in a pound cake.

I ordered two cakes in the shape of a heart for a valentine's day gift, and it's Feb 15th, and they're still not here. Very sad.It was 44 dollars! Including 15 dollars for shipping. I got an ad from them in January in my inbox, and placed my order early, even. Will update this with how the company responds. For now - take your business somewhere else when you really need the gift to arrive on time.

Stopped in here when they first opened before they were on yelp. I bought a small pound cake and the glaze for it. First if I knew how much it was going to be I would have said no and walked out the door. I gave over $40 for a little pound cake and a small jar of the raspberry glaze. The glaze was good but nothing amazing, but I had to use a lot of it on the dry lemon pound cake. I don't understand the big draw for this place. I could make the pound cake myself and it would taste 10x better. I haven't or won't be buying another one. Waste of money to me.

Rowena's drizzles.... just by that alone, you should check this place out. The cake is delicious and the "drizzles" are superb. If you need a place to get a good pound cake, definitely check this place out. It can be on the pricey side but the cake (especially the almond one) is truely that good. Raspberry drizzles are good too.

Stopped by for the Saturday $1/slice special and was thoroughly impressed. Bourbon cake was delightfully light in texture yet rich with flavor. Will be back for sure.

Delicious cakes and friendly staff (esp Missy?)!! My friends and I just happened to stroll by while walking downtown, our noses pulled us in. You can smell the cakes baking a block away! Popped in to see what the shop was about, we were instantly welcomed. We got to sample one of the "mistakes" freshly made. Impressed by the small size of the shop and the amount of production. Definitely recommend the rum cake and chocolate. Seems pricey but worth every dollar.

The almond cake is AMAZING. It is so moist and flavorful. You can't really go wrong with any flavor, but the almond is certainly my favorite. A single cake from here feeds more people than you would think. Because they are so rich and dense, a small slice is enough per person. The staff is friendly and generous! I just wish they were open later during the week days and always offered a by-the-slice option (right now it is just Saturdays, I think..).
