Went here on a Sunday night to watch the football game, sat down around 8:15pm. There wasn't many people inside and those who were, all were sitting at the bar. I opted to sit at one of their tables and booths since no one was in the regular sitting area. A good amount of big TVs inside, all with the game on so that was nice to see. I ordered their shrimp basket with fries (8/10) it was decent, I wasn't really going here with the intent to eat a lot. I just wanted something simple to eat on while watching the game. I was satisfied overall with it, was a decent amount of shrimp and fries. Def needed some extra seasoning though in my opinion. I also ordered their cornbread basket (4/10). I didn't get a picture of the cornbread, but it didn't even come in a basket, they served it in a small square to-go container which I thought was maybe because they were closing early since all the chairs were stacked on the other tables and the staff were cleaning like they were about to close up soon. I received my food at 8:30 pm and they told me they weren't closing until 11 pm so that had me a bit confused. I truly didn't mind though too much for them to out come like that, my main issue was the fact that the cornbread wasn't as good as it looked really. The minute I picked a piece up it just mushed and fell apart, which got annoying each time I went to eat it. Def a good price for them as a little appetizer and the amount you get, $2 for 6, but they just weren't all that when I got them sadly. The wait time was only about 10 mins for my food, the cornbread took longer to come out though, so I didn't get them until well after I had already started eating my shrimp basket. All in all, I'd def go back but the service was kind of lacking for me which was weird being that not many people were even in the restaurant around the time, I'll try them again though.I spent around $25 total. My overall rate of experience : 6.5/10

Came here for a Birthday dinner on a Friday night. I really did not have too many expectations for the food and was more looking forward to spending time with my friends. There was an issue with the restaurant double booking my friend's dinner with another which is unacceptable, so we unfortunately had to be arranged somewhere else opposed to the preferred private dining area initially booked. However, the staff was accommodating to their mistake and made it work. The dining party included 22 people, so we were not able to sit altogether as previously expected. Instead, we sat at separate tables in factions in the same area on the other side of the restaurant.I asked one of the servers what they recommended, and he provided his honest recommendation of the fried catfish as well as the fried chicken. He also let me know that the greens were good today, emphasizing that the chef made them well today (letting us know that the taste of certain items depend on the day). The cornbread was recommended as well.Rating/thoughts on bites:Rated X Margarita 7/10-(Strong taste of mix at the beginning but got better as it was sipped, doesn't taste strong, but the alcohol is PRESENT, only $13)Catfish- 8.5/10 (hot, seasoned, yummy, perfect with hot sauce)Fried Chicken- 7/10 (crispy, boneless which was unexpected, generally no complaints nothing spectacular)Mac and Cheese- 8/10 (surprisingly good even though the waitress did not recommend it)Collard Greens- 7.5/10 (pretty good with hot sauce, but there were a lot of big stems which is a no no, super tender though which is necessary for good greens)Loaded Mashed Potatoes- 6/10 (Typical loaded mash, nothing special but did its job)Cornbread- 8.7/10 (yummy served with butter and a great value at $2 for 6 small muffins)Overall, I had a great time, the service was fast and honest, the live band was nice but of course loud, and importantly I enjoyed the food.

Found a gem! Not only amazing tasting food, the live music on Saturdays is GREAT. Hubby and I came here after a stressful move in day and man are we happy we chose this place. First off, If you get the chance to meet Marlon, you'll be in the best hands. He was very attentive, accommodating and upmost professional. He is so sweet as well. He gave us all the pointers for food and kept in touch with the table attentively. The inside is huge! Lots of tv screens and a separate room with a fire place. Lots of bar space too. Plenty of real estate in this place! I love the hanging football helmets. This will be a great place to come to watch football. The band was amazing! We loved it. Such good vibes and amazing artists/ instruments being played. The bathroom was clean, we have no complaints on the atmosphere. It was so much fun. The food was DELICIOUS! Crab dip, corn bread and my smash burger grilled cheese was my fav! My husband loved his ribs as well If you haven't stopped by or haven't been there for a while, go check it out!!!

Service was attentive. Love the feel of the restaurant. Fries were cooked perfectly. Wings were ordered as fried hard. Half of the wings were fried hard the other half weren't. I will be returning. Staff were friendly and I loved the atmosphere.

Roger Browns is a staple in downtown Portsmouth. The place could really use a deep clean and upgrade entirely. The hubbies wanted to watch the NFL games, so we ended up here. Totally NOT MY CHOICE. We walked and sat ourselves without even being greeted. The only table near the screens to view multiple games had been cleared but not cleaned. The guys just sat there, and we followed as we waited for someone to notice us. Most activity and attention are given to the packed bar area. We were finally noticed,I asked for the table to be cleaned. The table was cleaned, and he asked if we wanted it dryed...soooooo um yes, please. A waitress came and took drink orders, appetizers, and entrées all at once. Drinks 2 by 2, appetizers came out. My Angry Orchard was a reddish color, not the apple cider color. The waitress said it was, but I knew it was not, so I just walked to the bar to return it and watch a pour of a new drink. The bartender informed me that it was a different flavor Angry Orcharsd well that accounts for the red color cider. I choose another cider on tap and return to my seat. Our meals came hot and without much delay. Everyone enjoyed our meals, and we enjoyed the games. I'd honestly like to see some new items added to their menu. It's been THE SAME FOR YEARS. As well as a remodeling of the restaurant. I no longer take out of town guest here anymore because of the off odor of the entire place and boring menu.

This spot was meh. The food was not that great, which was disappointing because I'd been told the food was really good for a sports bar. We tried the spinach dip, which was the best part of any of the food we ordered. I got the crab cake duo. The crab cakes with no kind of sauce, which I've never seen before. They were a good size but weren't that flavorful. My friend ordered the catfish bites and the batter that they used to fry it seemed more similar to what you'd use for chicken, plus it was not seasoned well. I do recommend the peach Dusse lemonade.

The wait time was horrible!! I think they forgot about us. We had no one assigned to our section. When I stopped an employee he told me he needed to find someone else to take our order. It took forever to receive our food / I ordered the sandwich my husband ordered the catfish dinner ( it was not seasoned) and drinks. But, they didn't ask about refills or more drinks... no desert... nothing. It was NOT packed. We will not be back!!

I really enjoyed my first experience at Roger Browns yesterday. We came here after initially planning to eat at the casino. The location on the water was great. Parking wasn't too bad either. There was a bit of confusion on who our server would be after our first server admitted she forgot about us, so someone else came and took over. Ms Ruby was a great server. Once we got a server, things ran smoothly for the most part. The wings and Bones appetizer was fantastic. Ribs and chicken were great and ribs were fall off the bone. My brother lived the sauce. My brother got the catfish, and as a cook, he said it was some of the best catfish he's ever had. My dad and I had the grilled chicken and veggies and white rice, which was pretty good. I was glad to see it was chicken thighs. We also had side salads, which were a good side. The greens were okay but my dad didn't think they had enough flavor. The dj then the live band were fantastic. The band was really really good. I agree that the restaurant could probably use a deep deep clean, but overall, I enjoyed my experience and would come back!

Stopped in early on a Saturday and was seated immediately. Service was prompt and professional- neither overly attentive nor neglectful. The food came quickly and was hot. The best part was that everything was tasty! Everything seemed freshly prepared with high quality ingredients. We sat on the outdoor patio. It wasn't cramped and the traffic wasn't so loud or noxious so that I felt like I was choking on pollution. It was actually the perfect afternoon. Loved it.
