Living in Newport News, trail walking has been a great hobby for myself. Checking out local nature trails has been one that I'm trying to upgrade. And it looks like I found a brand new one to add to my locations.Riverview Farm Park is located by Menchville High School. It has a playground area and soccer field for kids to play. They also have group shelters reserved for large picnics. For you trail lovers, they have a 2-mile loop where you can walk, jog or run. Some can even ride bikes. There aren't many trees around so walking during the summertime may not be your cup of tea. But it was really nice to take a morning stroll here with friends, even during cold weather. Everything was paved, which helps when your avoiding water puddles and such. Also, there is a separate trail located by the park visitor center where you have a view of the Warwick River. We didn't get the chance to go that route but will check it out when the weather becomes warmer.Again, this trail gets a thumbs up from yours truly and my friends. Till next time :)

I have been coming to this park for years and although my children are grown we made so many good memories over the years. This gem right by Menchville High School has a great play area, flower garden, paved trail around the entire area and even a dog park. My dog loves to walk this path and explore and make friends with other dogs. There are bathroom facilities and doggy poo bags along the path and receptacles so no surprises along the path. Parents take your kids here and check out the community garden it's very peaceful.

The cutest park in Hampton Roads! I had no idea about this park. My friend found it since it was near her Aunt's house whom she was visiting. There were so many things to do. Even adults had fun. We enjoyed a tire swing, and the jungle gym and slide. Our kids loved watching us play. It was very clean as well. The flowers and landscaping were stunning as well.

To quote other reviews: this place IS a hidden gem!! When I first moved to the area in 2021 and staying in a hotel, one of the hotel staff had suggested this park to me. Once I drove up to it, I immediately knew that this was an awesome park, but I didn't expect it to have as much as it does! Two complex playgrounds, a slew of swings (standard, infant, and tire swings), musical instrument stations, see-saws, rock climbing wall, and more! And the park even has a Touch & Smell garden, complete with season al flowers and herbs (lemongrass, thyme, rosemary, mint, and more). This park far exceeded my expectations, and is worth the 30-minute drive!

Honestly this is kind of a hidden gem.I highly recommend a group of moms go so they can all watch the kids. There are so many different little areas to play around that you can be here for hours.Parking is decent. They are swings which most parks don't anymore. There is a nice walking trail as well. I've seen people on bikes and mommies with strollers. There is a shelter and tables to sit under when the sun is beating down. Having girls of different ages, this allows them to all be able to be entertained.

Absolutely love Riverview Farm Park! It is very well kept, has a ton of open space, a nice long paved trail with multiple options for distance, a playground, and several cabana areas with seating in the center of the park as well as benches spaced out along the trail. I've been going for months and have never had a bad experience! Leased dogs are welcome so it can also be a great place to train and socialize your dog.

This is a really nice park. There's a large playground for children, lots of open space for sports or kite flying, and a nice paved walking trail where I love to walk my dog. There's also a small skate park, a gymnastics center, and a dog park. The park sits right on the James River, near the water treatment plant. You can't see or smell the sewage treatment equipment from most of the park, as they've built up a large burm in between the two. Perhaps more importantly, I've never seen shady characters here. As great as this park is, it has the potential to be a truly exceptional park with unprecedented beautiful river views.Shortly after the park was created, the city took the best part of it for their own use - the part that actually contains coastline, at the confluence of the James River and Deep Creek. In fact, now the only place in Riverview Farm Park that actually has a river view is from the top of the burm I mentioned above, and you're looking in between smoke stacks. (This is excepting a small jetty which you can walk down a trail to access.) They built a minimum security prison on this priceless land (City Farm) and had the inmates do farming as part of their rehabilitation. The prison is now closed, and there has been much controversy over what to do with the City Farm portion of the park. I can tell you this is some of the most scenic land in all of Newport News and is basically the last large piece of riverfront real estate in the city that is not in private ownership. The city council was entertaining unsolicited offers from real estate developers who wanted to turn City Farm into luxury condominiums. A few rich people would get richer, and the public would lose this amazing land to those wealthy enough to buy a condo there. The public has fought back on behalf of keeping the City Farm part of the park and opening this gem to public access. Recently, the public has scored a small victory in protecting the park, as the Planning Comission agreed to change the zoning of the land back to "public park" after it had been inexplicably changed to "under study" after the prison closed. However, the city council has the final say on what happens to the park. The public is still not allowed access to this portion of the public park.
