Went here for the first time last week. I got the pulled pork sandwich and added some pickled onions. Absolutely top notch. The staff was pleasant. Can't ask for much more. Will for sure be back again

We visited Redwood twice, and we were blown away by the variety of great tasting barbecue. First, the staff taking our order were very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and in great spirits. The Burnt Ends: they just fell apart. The flavor was exceptional. All of our friends were blown away. The lean brisket was also very good. We saw them slicing and mixing the pulled pork and again it may have been the best we've sampled so far in Virginia Beach. I love the collard greens and the Pit Smoked Beans with a rich sauce. We've been sampling barbecue places all over Virginia Beach for the last few years. So far, Redwood is our favorite. And that's saying a lot!

A local BBQ joint across the street from the courthouse. My first impression of this place was how much it really looked like a BBQ shack in Texas! I love the southern layout and how much space they have inside. I ordered the classic platter BBQ ribs with Mac and cheese and their homemade cornbread. They were delicious, ribs were falling off the bones, Mac/cheese and cornbread were amazing. My only issue is probably the price. This is on the expensive side for me for almost $20 this is all you get.

You can never go back to other bbq place once you tried Redwood, they are the best in town. I've been to the Redwood in Norfolk couple times and I started to come to the Nimmo location cuz I live in VB, they are par with the Norfolk location. Their hours are weird but it make sense cuz they close once their food are sold out. I came here around 4 close to 5pm and they were closed despite their hours that day was 11-6, so I would recommend you to come during lunch hours or at least like 3ish to get your food. They're closed on Sundays and Mondays too.The other reason I recommend you come during lunch hours is because of their lunch combo. For 12.9 (or +3.50 for brisket) you get a protein, a side and a drink. Couple times I get 2 of those combos and wait till dinner time to heat them up in a toaster oven and microwave, and the food tasted as good as it was fresh. For the food, I loved everything that I've tried. Unlike most chain restaurants, their bbq is not cooked with bbq sauce, instead you add the amount of sauces(or none) as you desire. I highly recommend the brisket. The consistency of meat and fat is perfect, and you don't need a knife for them cuz they just separate apart by using your fork. The sausage is also a good add-on to share cuz it's only $5. For sides I always get the baked beans because of the smoky and bbq sauce flavor is unbeatable. Don't forget to get the pork grinds and get a house sauce to go, they're the best gift for my coworkers and they love them!

12/16/23Keep your eyes peeled when you're visiting the VB location near the courthouse. It's easy to miss! The signage isn't huge. It's closer to the Princess Anne Rd side of the courthouse strip mall, it will be one of the first few shops/restaurants as you first enter. It's to the far right end if facing Harris Teeter. You place your order at the counter then mosey along down the counter to the left to pay at the register. I believe they are cashless, so make sure if you're not one to carry credit/debit cards you're with someone who does ;-) I was prepared either way :-) They offer military discounts with ID. They also have a reward program, don't forget to sign up for that for us avid meat eaters. Keep in mind if you want the sampler platter they only do that during the weekdays. There will be no meat party of variety platters on weekends unless you share different orders among your friends/family. Which I did with my husband. I ended up ordering a half pound of pulled pork and split it after we both worked on our respective platters. I had the platter with beef brisket and my choice of sides were collard greens and potato salad. I was a little sad about the portion of brisket received. The side portions however were robust and welcomed! They have menus at the counter but also conveniently a gigantic menu posted on the wall. Non listed additional options were posted as well. Staff were kind and friendly. Once your order is ready they call you up. Sauces are all located on the wall to the right of the drink machine. Make sure you leave those communal sauces in their designated wall space. There's a sign.Take away containers & bags are conveniently located near the drink machines as well. FOOD:* brisket was good but flavor was elevated with the house sauce which that particular sauce was my favorite of all the options. portion size for brisket was underwhelming. I can eat some meat.*sausage platter - my husband had I think one sausage or something, the portion size left him insatiable. *pulled pork - was good but the add of sauce really elevated the flavor , good size *mac & cheese: great things were felt and said by the purchasers at the table, healthy portion size *collard greens - delicious & flavorful great portions, *red bliss potato salad- this was another winner and great portion sizes as wellplease don't change the side portion sizes on the opposite spectrum. They're perfect. *bananamisu- if Tiramisu & banana pudding had a baby, it is definitely one lovely sized container bundle of joy! This was my absolute fave of everything I tasted. High fives and stage dives my friend! babymisu, I mean bananamisu needs a drum set because it's banging!Overall, it was a good experience, but if you're still hurting for more meat don't order the sausage because you're going to need more protein unless you have a small/smaller appetite. Meat ain't cheap, I get it and smoking meat is a process, inflation is real, people need to earn a living but the meals are on the pricey side. I also understand that food costs in general is on the rise. I felt better though because the sides' portions supplemented the brisket/sausage meat portion deficit. I would come back again and try the tommy boy or big ass burrito. If no one has won the catering bit with the red envelope, that's because i'm the winner. I just haven't had my envelope opened yet. I'm manifesting it. Bananamisu gets 10 stars!!

First time and thrilled to report the Virginia Beach location has it going on! Yeah Norfolk is the original and that's where the pits are, but my weekday visit was just as strong as Norfolk. The location off Nimmo Parkway is across from the courthouse. Customers will find plenty of surface parking. The lot of clear of debris and the walk up tidy. The store is not large, but suits the location well. Cool street art adorns the walls providing a cool vibe to enjoy Texas inspired BBQ by the pit master & owner Bob Roberts. The meats are transported from Norfolk daily. They remain open until sold out or posted closing time. I decided on a lunch combo with brisket and slaw with drink. The staff was super nice explained the menu upfront when I had a question. It was great to see they were fully staffed too! My food came out in minutes. Fountain drink is self serve. The dining room was clean. Napkins are at the table as it should be in a bbq joint. The fatty brisket was marvelous with a nice bark and spectacular flavor. So good! The slaw was crisp and flavorful. A flawless visit and a well deserved 5 stars. Thank you to Redwood for the blood, sweat & tears to create some of the best bbq in the area. I would say their award winning brisket alone is the best in Virginia.

Best BBQ in Hampton Roads and I stand firmly on that decision. They have 2 locations but I have only been to the Virginia Beach shop. Came around lunch time and it seems that other people agree that this place is phenomenal because the line got long quick and stayed steady for the whole hour we were there. They have a lunch special that is extremely popular, but we got bits of the whole menu to get a true gauge on this place.Starting with the meats: we tried the ribs, the brisket, both the house sausage and the jalapeño cheddar sausage, and the pulled pork. You absolutely must get the brisket. It was the winner by a long shot. We actually got back in line to order more and I'm already dreaming about getting it again. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was a close second for me, but honestly everything was great. Their pulled pork is super smokey and flavorful, but still juicy and tender.Next stop: the sides. Their macaroni and cheese is fire and obviously one of their most popular items. We saw lots of tables around us getting that and pairing it with the pulled pork and bbq sauce. SMART! I also loved the broccoli salad.Redwood also does some pretty great specials each day. We came on Cinco De Mayo and tried a few. Loved their Mexican Street Corn. The only thing we weren't amazed by was the Enchiladasagna special.Lastly, the dessert. Their banana pudding is life-changing. One of the best bites i've had all year, no joke. I cannot WAIT to take my husband here!!

On a whim, we tried this today and we will be going back. I got a two meat platter with brisket, pulled chicken, corn pudding and collards. My husband got the special Tommy Boy sandwich which as their pastrami with pickles, cabbage, and their house sauce. He made it a platter with mac n cheese and their beans. We also got the pork belly burnt ends and some of the bananamisu. All the meats were smoky and tender. The pastrami was amazingly good. The corn pudding was probably the best thing I ate. The chicken was as expected but made better by the Alabama white bbq sauce. The bananamisu was a good banana pudding, but I think next time I'll order more corn pudding as dessert instead. The wait line was pretty long but completely worth it. Meat sliced in front of you. Go early if you want choices because they only serve til they sell out.
