The recreational centers in our area are a great alternative to gym memberships. They are more affordable especially if you have a family and they offer so many options. There is something for everyone regardless of age. The facilities are well maintained and staffed. Everyone is so friendly and professional. From the moment you walk in someone is greeting you with a smile. What I've noticed that has made an impression on me is that everyone I have encounter seems happy to work there. I highly recommend the centers in our area. I have been to four different ones and I have been impressed with all of them.

So this rec center is like 5 minutes from my home and I have a bunch of friends who have mentioned coming here for open play volleyball a few nights a week and some other things. I admit, I've thought about coming inside a few times but usually just skip it bc I have a small home gym and I'm lazy. We recently joined with my fiancee's parents who love to play pickle ball and we're trying to get into doing that with them. This is one of the larger centers in Virginia Beach and has a lot of open gymnasium space and large, expansive locker rooms. Last weekend we played pickle ball here (crowded) and then stayed to work out in the gym where they have tons of workout equipment and it wasn't crowded at all - although it was a weekend afternoon. For $110 a year you can visit any of the several centers in Virginia Beach and enjoy their activities and use the gym. You literally cannot get a price that good anywhere else.

A city without an offering of recreational centers is not a city I would want to call home. Thats just how spoiled my family has got by the City of Virginia Beach Recreational Centers. The reasonable cost when compared to a traditional gym is substantial. It has increased over the decade of use, but I'm still fan. The location just off Nimmo Parkway is beside the PA Library and firehouse. Parking is usually never a problem unless there is an event which limits parking. The PA Rec Center has been utilized by our family for over 9 years. Both of our children learned to swim in this pool through their "learn to swim" lessons offered throughout the year at a very inexpensive cost. Most of the swimming instructors have been both excellent coaches and gifted in working with young children. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of getting your children in the pool by 3-4 years old with all the water we have in this area. The lobby area sports a pool table. Also books in this area can be taken by the honor system, so enjoy taking one home and bring it back and if you want to donate others feel free to drop off at front desk. The Aquatics Dept in all of the VB Rec Centers have open enrollment right now for something more competitive for ages 6-18 if your children already know how to swim. It is called "Winter League" and the individual rec centers compete against each other in swimming events. I have been involved in this for years with my children and recommend. Also the cost is dirt cheap for the amount of instructions they get Nov - Jan.The rec center offers a game room for kids. Things such as pool tables, ping pong tables and climbing area. There is also air hockey and a hoops like they have at Chuck E Cheese. For the older kids 8&U another room is more selective hours offers Wii, Xbox 360 and some other type of electronic games. This area never seems to busy to me.The gym is a full court basketball court and is also has multi uses. At times they will pull a curtain and have BB on one side and another activity such as ping pong on another. The biggest hit for members is the workout rooms. They have the latest equipment of treadmills, weights and more. Personal trainers are available at an additional cost. There can waits for equipment if you arrive at peak. My usual early AM time has never been an issue. If your into racquetball there are two courts for use. How about group aerobic classes with rocking music, yep they have that too!The new locker room for handicap access was just completed over the Summer. It has restrooms, showers and lockers. The traditional men and women's locker room is off the pool deck with interior access across from the workout room. The center also offers an after school program and newer in house daycare. We have never used it but know through friends it is a hit. There are so many programs offered by the VB Rec Center System. A printed quarterly book is available, or find online.I could not imagine a life without these wonderful facility in our area. The Princess Anne Recreational Center is clean, has wonderful dedicated staff and offer a variety of programs that any family can benefit from. If you have yet to check them out I encourage you to do so.

Great facility and great price! You really can't beat joining the Rec Center if you want to become or stay active! This Princess Anne location is on Nimmo Parkway, right beside the PA Library & fire station. Sometimes, I even park in the furthest possible spot of the library, just to get tons of extra steps in before entering the rec!Staff is usually friendly, some more than others. Never really a bad experience. The equipment is great; you can pretty much always get a machine, especially if you don't go during peak "after work hours," which is usually 5-7pm. They have weights, cardio, a warm up room, a pool, volley ball, b-ball, classes if you have "premium" membership, and personal training for extra fees. Membership prices definitely beat most gyms. The current price as of this review, 4/28/2017, is $98 a year for an adult VB resident. My only very minor complaint is related to their hours. They have posted hours saying what time the place closes, but you must be out of "program areas" 15 minutes before that. Just post that as "closing" hours. If the rec closes at 9:30pm that day, everyone has to get off the machines at 9:15. That could have been an extra mile for someone. Just don't count what is posted as "closing time," as the time you can work out until. It's only 15 minutes but it makes a difference. I'm used to it now, but still. Other than that, I do love this place. Best bang for the buck! 4.5 stars!

A nice spacious area for kids to enjoy their day and spacious room rentals. The pool is huge so kids or adults don't feel crowded. There's a game/pool room with tv's and basketball court. They offer classes so, look at the rec calendar so you won't miss it. The Staff is friendly and just a great place for kids to hang out with plenty to do.

And so it is... The second ever 5 star rating albeit the first for a non restaurant business for me. The Princess Anne Recreation Center has been a staple for anyone trying to get in shape or have someone babysit their kids for well over a decade now and through the years it has evolved into one of the top places to go for overall value with an affordable price.I have been going to this particular recreation center since high school (98-99) and have seen it's changes through the years to compete with the franchises which have set up shop such as Bally's, Gold's Gym (now known as One Life Fitness), Anytime Fitness, Planet Fitness and the like. I believe this recreation center gives those a run for their money and here's a list of the amenities to explain:1 Community Gymnasium offering 3 regulation courts to play games, and a total of 8 basketball goals. An Olympic Size pool which has hosted the likes of several high school and district meets along with 2 diving boards and 4 lap lanes2 Racquetball CourtsWeight Room consisting of various circuit machines you would find in any of the "franchise" fitness centers along with 2 plasma screen tvs, stationary cycles, elevated stationary cycles, stair climbers, elliptical machines, and treadmills for those looking for a good cardio workout. There's also a separate fitness room where classes are held occasionally to catch a good workout away from the rest of the local crowd. The only thing this place lacks is a good speed bag and punching bag which it had before but I think they took out due to the violence factor. After all, this is a family friendly center offered from the city. There is also a fitness room for yoga, dancing, and zumba classes as well as a room dedicated for spinning class. This combined with the recreational side which has pool tables and other arts and crafts classes in the other wing makes this a great place to go to accomplish a lot.Did I mention all of this as an adult costs only $75 a year? That's less than $7 a month! No other fitness center comes close to a deal like that!So if you're looking for a good place to go to get in shape and is a lot of bang for your buck get ready to say cheese and register for your rec pass. You won't regret it!

I'm a new member to Princess Anne rec center and recreation centers in general. Now that I've been to this center all other rec centers and gyms have competition. The gym is great and seems to have everything one needs and although I don't have kids myself I can see many parents taking the opportunity to get a workout in while their kids are in swim lessons next door. The pool is a decent size, the basketball gym is nicely kept and there's always something fun going on for families to exercise and bond. I'm not a huge fan of contract gyms or the monotony of the same gym and a different workout routine. I like to get a little cardio in by shooting hoops once in a while or doing laps in the pool. After a nice workout you can take a few steps to the library right next door. You can exercise your body and your mind!Just do it. ;)

This recreation center is immaculate. The other Virginia Beach Recreation Centers are older and overcrowded. This is probably the largest Virginia Beach Recreation Center and is about half as crowded. Everything in this facility is nice and new. There are three aerobic rooms that resemble dance studios with wood floors and lots of mirrors. None of the classes are ever full. There are also rooms for spinning. I have never used the racquetball and gymnasium areas, but I doubt they are as crowded as the other rec centers. I wish this rec center was closer to my house. I quit the rec because my local facility (Bayside) was always packed and not nearly as nice inside.

Can't beat the price, amenities, or customer service! For $112/year (as of Nov 2023) you get access to 7 large rec centers throughout VB and over 500 fitness classes/month. All have pools and gyms. Some have indoor walking tracks. Large workout areas with both free weights and cardio. Some even have racquetball courts and large play rooms for kids. All have dedicated times for open gym basketball, volleyball, badminton, and pickleball.
