Another sunny day in Portsmouth, Virginia, and the park was full of people with beautiful smiles and laughter. The temperature is great for children playing and adults relaxing. We had a great time. The seating around the play area is comfortable, and you can easily move to a new bench as the children move from set to set. There is a covered seating area if the children need a break from the sun or rain, Smiles! The restrooms are well maintained and stocked with what you need. The parking lot is spacious, and lots of spaces are covered by shadows from the trees, so your car stays cool. There were several employees walking around just to check on visitors. It made me feel safer because I knew the attendants were there. The waterfront area is beautiful. I am going to come back with the hubby for a romantic walk before dinner.

Before I begin, let me start off by saying that this review is based solely upon my personal experiences and my personal experiences alone. So with that being said let's go!.I have been here quite a few times since I returned to this city for work ( I started in this city shortly after I moved south from Brooklyn) I returned because this is the city I've lived in since I married my wife and the commute is just a stone's throw from my house,so that means little to no traffic to and from work! That is a great situation for me after so many years of long commutes and horrendous traffic conditions on the way home! Just imagine a small city with big city traffic, it's the military bases and families all crammed into this small city that doesn't have the infrastructure to handle the traffic flow on the interstate, it's just crazy.. they're trying to expand the highways to accommodate all the traffic but it's going to be a long time before we see results! I apologize but I had to vent! Ok, let's get back to the review... I came here for lunch and relaxation, both were very nice! I have heard from the locals that there have been lots of improvements to this park! I have been very impressed in what I have seen, from the water views to sitting areas to the boat ramps and cookout areas as well as the enhanced play areas and what I have heard there is a train ride here as well ( one of my co workers who grew up in this city told me about it ) that does charge a fee but is very nice from what I was told. I left out one star because you have to past through a cemetery in order to get to the park which is in the back by the water, and from what I was told the cemetery was here first so I understand the landmarks! I believe there is a curfew for this park anyway which is a good thing because you don't want to have to drive past a cemetery at night! HaHaHa...I will return and bring my grandson here and let him enjoy the playground area one day soon!.

Wow, I was not expecting what this park had to offer! As a native Washingtonian I am still learning the Hampton Roads area, yes even after being here five years. The Mrs and I was looking for a park to just chill and reflect on the church sermon. We purchased some fish from Chef 757 and yelped this park which was close by the restaurant. The graveyard entrance took me by surprise and my expectation was that this park was a bust! Was I surprised when we kept driving and saw a golf course on the left and tennis courts on the right! Two of our favorite past time activities! And then there was the picnic area and the children play area! Wow, caught me off guard. And we happened to come up on someone's event and we just joined in like "cousin!!" LOLI truly enjoyed the peace and beauty of this park and it was definitely worth the drive from Suffolk!

One drives through a large graveyard to get here, which is an odd vibe if you're headed out for a picnic, but the end result is a substantial stretch of land. There are playgrounds and other facilities as well as benches and picnic tables. The view of the river is hardly as scenic as going to the beach, but if you don't have time to do that, it's a nice place to be and there's plenty to do here, and it's free.

This park has it all. The playground is clean and kept up nicely. The train is so much fun!! The waterfront looks great since they updated the fencing. The grounds are kept very nicely. People are friendly and mostly keep their dogs on leash and pick up their . I don't golf but the course looks well maintained. There seem to be parties during the spring, summer and fall. I haven't held any here but may in the near future. Beautiful park for your family.

Beautiful park right on the water. The purpose of my trip to City Park was to do an easy run. Since I visited on Thanksgiving morning, the park was pretty empty, but it seemed safe. A loop around the park was about a mile. I was hoping to find a trail or path that surrounding the entire perimeter of the park, but I was a bit unlucky with that search. Maybe it exists, and I couldn't find it. The park is very well maintained, and I'm sure that it's a popular spot for spring/summer cookouts.

This park is very big, there are three different playgrounds, an outside theater & Pokey the train operates on weekends only, $2 to ride. There are bathrooms available and plenty of trash cans around. There is a nice lake to walk around, benches in the shade, a boat dock & golf course. We really enjoy this park. It looks like there is also a grill that sells concessions but I am assuming only on the weekends.

We travel from Suffolk just to go to this park. Even in the blistery 45° weather this park was packed. Their are 3 playground areas and lots of space to run around! Very well maintained and extremely clean. There is a train that kiddos can ride on on weekends but it was closed I assume for either covid or winter. Their is beautiful views, a boat ramp and a golf course. A little bit for everyone of all ages!

The park has been changed and updated for the children and people in the area. Love the views and how calm it is to just take all of the beauty of this park.
