Ordered food to go here last night for the first time. Staff was friendly both on the phone and when I picked up the food. Food: Egg Drop Soup-not a lot of flavor. Honey Chicken-Not good flavor and the chicken was tough. There was one couple dining in at 7:15 pm on a Thursday evening as well as two to-go bags waiting to be picked-up.

The food and service here are so great! I have been looking for a really good Asian restaurant since I moved to Newport News. I finally found it.My friend and I decided to celebrate Galentine's Day by having Asian food and then hitting a favorite store. She has been going to Port Arthur for decades. As soon as we walked in, she was recognized and treated like family. We ordered dinner for two - General Tso's Chicken and Moo Goo Gai Pan. The appetizer soup was delicious and filling, followed by absolutely heavenly egg rolls. And then the main course! So terrific!! And service could not be beat. We never had to ask for beverage refills and our server stopped by twice to ask if the food was to our liking. The prices were very reasonable too.In short, we completely enjoyed our dining experience at Port Arthur, and I can't wait to go back.

I have been looking for a Chinese restaurant from my childhood....you know...the one with tablecloths and silver serving dishes and tea sets...the pu pu platter with the fire and really good dishes. This place did not disappoint. We got the Mongolian beef and it was tender and it wasn't all green onion .... It had a nice amount of beef. Tasty and not overly oniony. The sweet and sour chicken was better than most. Not greasy and right amount of breading. The sweet and sour sauce was wonderfully sweet AND sour. It was overall a good experience. The pu pu platter was alright thought I was slightly disappointed in the offerings....all chicken and little else. That's why not a 5 star but we will be going back!Ambiance was simple and service was good!

Seriously the best Chinese food anywhere. I have no idea why it isn't more popular. I will only go here from now on.

This is the only nice sit down Chinese restaurant in Newport News as far as I know. I remember getting takeout here as a teenager about 20+ years ago so it's been around awhile. Looking at their website, they've won the Daily Press Best Chinese Restaurant almost every year for the past decade. We don't come often but when we do, it's a pleasant experience. The egg roll is made of shrimp and chicken and you get actual little shrimp. The egg drop soup has rice in it which is interesting. It also seems to be chicken broth based and may not be as thick as other egg drop soups. My hubby had the tofu curry and enjoyed it. I had something with shrimp, chicken, pork with vegetables and a brown sauce on a sizzle hot plate. I tried to look up the menu online and didn't find it but it was called something like Subgum War Pa.They are open for takeout and dine in. Not sure about delivery. If you are vaccinated, you don't have to wear a mask.

This place was busy on a Friday!! The service was good. The food was decent. I tried something new (chicken and walnuts), and it was better as leftovers. The crab Rangoon didn't have much crab despite the advertisement for lump crabmeat. The hot and sour was good and so were the crispy strips they give with soup. The Grand cosmo was good. I'll go back - just probably get something I know.

Best Chinese food in the area. Building may be interesting, not what you expect... but the food just sparkles inside like magic. We only make it here 1x per week or every other week. When we get this it is an honest treat. Best curry ever veggies crisp and sticky rice, soup that warms your soul!

There's a reason this restaurant has been a staple on the Peninsula for over 90 years. I don't know of another sit-down white tablecloth Chinese restaurant in our area.. they have the absolute best chicken chow mein on the planet but everything is delicious. You cannot go wrong here . If you have not been you're missing out !! Service and food are top notch !
