Pocosin Lakes

We stopped here for the rest stop and were completely surprised to find a wildlife refuge attached. We ended up staying for an hour. There is a great little visitor center with stuffed local animals and things to read about the area. The boardwalk trail by the lake was beautiful. This is the perfect place to spend an hour or two enjoying nature if you're in the area.

This is a small rest area off the main road on the way to/from OBX. Restrooms are clean, staff is helpful, and the walking trail at the lake is kind of cool. I'm not sure I'd call it a nature trail, but maybe some could call it that. Plenty of parking at the time of day we went through.
