Place is great! Needed a week pass while visiting OBX and this place recommended to me.Great for tennis and pickleball, courts look great. I joined to work out, plenty of cardio and weights, more than I need. Friendly staff, place very clean.

3 stars for Katie and Rick who are excellent tennis pros as well as having the best tennis facilities in the area. Unfortunately, the younger male pro, Pierce, is awful. I have tried to play in the adult clinic several times and -- I can't believe I'm writing this -- but Pierce very clearly has a preference for female players depending on their build. Of the several times I have joined this clinic, he has made snap judgements about women's ability not based on their tennis level but based on their bodies, and will make a point of pairing tall, slim women with better groups while pairing any women he deems overweight together. He was wildly unprofessional to boot: he would purposefully give points to the women he preferred even when the women he didn't won the point, hit feeds during live ball play that were almost unreturnable (my husband even noticed and said that it was clear that he was feeding the ball differently to me with no bounce and at my feet) and, most egregiously, would encourage some of the more aggressive male players who were hitting balls hard and directly at women (which is not a very nice thing to do in a resort clinic). I discussed with some of the women that I met playing here and we were all made to feel humiliated by this pro. If you're a man or a tall, thin woman -- join the clinic. For $25 it's a good workout for 90 minutes. There is no instruction and you are basically just paying for a facilitated live ball. There is no consideration for the level of the clinic and they'll accept anyone from a 2.5 to a 4.5 and, again, when Pierce is in charge will split up groups based on bodies and not ability. Don't expect to get anything other than 90 minutes of games like liveball and Canadian doubles. And for what it's worth, I have an athletic frame and am short -- and play competitive tennis at home. Sadly because I am not tall and willowy, one misogynistic pro seems determined to shame me (and other women like me) when all we want to do is play tennis. Horrific.

Four days of doubles drills while at the beach for the week. Fun time; but no instruction. All three instructors made my mornings. Wife and daughter also had a great time. The pro Rick Ostlund , does a wonderful job matching players. I had instruction years ago from him.Credit card system did not work several days; so required cash. Didn't try the fitness center.

3 miles north of the Sanderling...awesome place to drop in for tennis if you're just on the beach for a short while. The pro Rick is a great teacher, and they have regular drop-in clinics and drop-in doubles opportunities. Every time I am on the beach I head up there to play, and always come away with at least two great tips from Rick and a lot of fun tennis from the regulars and non-locals too. They have outdoor clay courts, which I have never played on. The indoor tennis bubble is great for year-round hitting. Kids clinics too! Rick is FANTASTIC with the kids. Great place for tennis on the Outer Banks.

Fantastic place to play tennis! We have been coming to OBX for years and my daughter started playing here when she was 8 and she's now 14. The staff are all some of the friendliest and professional people you will ever meet. The morning clinics are 1 1/2 hours of great tennis regardless of ability. Rick and his staff do a wonderful job grouping people of similar ability and it's non stop playing and such a blast. My daughter plays lots of tennis and has more fun playing here than anywhere else. One of the highlights of our trip every year. Highly recommend!!!

No public courts in Duck! But the Pine Island Racquet and Fitness Club is open to the public. We happened to drop in there and play in their indoor courts for 2 hrs, they were having some clinics at the same time and they looked pretty fun. I'm glad we didn't have to venture across the sound to find a court or have to play in the heat (lasted longer).

I visited the fitness facility only. I can't comment on the tennis facilities. The fitness area is tiny (think holiday inn gym ) and extremely crowded. It's almost unusable in their busy times. Come back when it's off-peak or don't bother.

We took a handful of lessons from the head pro Rick, and we also rented a court and ball machine while we were on vacation in OBX. The prices were incredibly reasonable (cheaper than what we pay at home), Rick was a fabulous teacher and the indoor air conditioned courts were a necessary reprieve from the summer heatwave. We will be back next trip.

With very few public tennis courts in the OBX, and none in the northern beaches, Pine Island is a necessity. Three air conditioned indoor courts (one lined for pickleball) and daily public drills. Pros Kate and Pierce are wonderful for beginners through advanced players. Courts are also available for rent. Outdoor clay courts are being transformed into pickleball courts. The fitness center is small but is again one of the only choices in the northern beaches. Gets a little busy in the height of the season because they do daily and weekly passes, but we still like being able to get a workout in.
