Pierhouse Bed & Breakfast

I don't always write reviews but I feel the need to tell my experience after reading a previous 2-Star review. My family (wife and 3yr old son) has been camping along the coast but due to an upcoming bad weather we decided to find a hotel / B&B for the night to dodge the storm (Sat 8/18/2018). We found this place last minute and the owner Mike was very pleasant on the phone and kind enough to take us in very last minute. It was after we booked the room we saw the "bad review" on Yelp and we were a little concern while driving there. However when we arrived, we found the whole place to be super cute, very relaxing, laid back and welcoming. There weren't anyone to check us in but the room was cleaned and ready and we were greeted with self-help snacks, fresh fruits and wine in the living room. We were laughing when we saw the street you need to cross to get to the beach because it was simply far from "busy" as suggested by the other reviewer. We met some friendly house guests, swimmer in the pool with our son and everything was great. I was sorta hoping for hard boiled eggs for breakfast as noted by the other reviewer but no luck.. But there were cereals, dog treats, pastries, snacks, coffee, juice etc. It was plenty good for us. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and I'm giving it a 5 Star. Thanks Mike.

A DEEP clean is way overdue!We stayed one night after spending the day in Ocracoke - we checked in late in the night and Mike was kind enough to extend our checkout time to 11 a.m. However, we did not use the extra time given since we couldn't leave there quick enough.It was obvious the minute we entered our room (Deck Side Room) the cleaning was at best minimal. From carpet stains; bugs; mold in the bathroom; molded and dusty vents it instantly made us feel grungy!The room temperature was obnoxiously hot (even on a November night); and the wobbly and filthy ceiling fan barely did a thing.My girlfriend cleaned out dead bugs from the tub and to her surprise brown water came out of the faucet (after running for awhile it was clear water).Breakfast was set for a 6-year old chid - pop tarts, instant oatmeal & grits, 4 powdered doughnuts and single-serve cereal boxes.We used the Keurig to make our own coffee and discovered how gross and unkept the kitchen was. The powdered creamer was a solid brick with dead bugs in it; and the sugar was hard as a rock with rust on the lid!We did not expect to have to go to an amazing breakfast at WaveRider after spending over $200 at this "Bed & Breakfast"We do NOT recommend staying here unless you don't mind uncleanlinesses and just need a bed for the night.The only perk to this location is its proximity to beach.

Giving the place 2 stars for a few reasons. Cleanliness was a huge issue. The main garbage can was overflowing with trash and maggots. It was right outside the main entrance which caused flies to swarm the place. The flies stayed full by munching on the food that was left out. The ceiling fan in our room had layers of dust on it and the couch in the room was gross. There was also an odd smell in the main floor. The pictures on the main site are very deceptive. The pool is a lot smaller than what is shown in the pictures and it needs to be cleaned too. Also, the street you have to cross to get to the beach has a lot of traffic. It's not peaceful like what was shown in the picture. Typically we do not travel to the beach to spend time in our room but unfortunately the weather forced us to stay inside. The beach is beautiful but we won't be staying here again.Also, the picture showing fancy waffles and other delicious food isn't what is served. They serve boiled eggs and crackers.

Very pleasant, very clean and perfect for a long weekend at the beach! Mike was friendly and laid back, the pool was great and his whole operation was smooth and accommodating. My friends and I enjoyed the happy hour each afternoon when we came back from the beach. We would absolutely recommend this B&B to anyone who wants an easy and relaxing getaway!
