The food is wonderful! The menu is very large and varied. The peel and eat shrimp were deveined! You choose your seafood, sauce and degree of spice. Plenty of wet wipes, too! The service was great! Quick and efficient . Checked on us without being intrusive. Mgr Kyle was so friendly and capable. The prices were remarkably low! Great bang for your buck. We will be going back!

My sister and I came here to enjoy one last meal before we flew back out to CA. The location was super convenient as it was like 3 min from the Newport News airport. It was pretty busy for a Sunday afternoon but we were greeted and promptly seated. Our server was super nice and attentive and the food was good. We had an order of oysters that were okay (not the best and not the worst but good for the price) and the seafood broil which had mussels, a lobster tail, shrimp, corn, sausage, potatoes, and an egg. The booths were comfy, they did use paper plates so that was a little weird but they had a lot of TVs that were playing all the football games. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they only had Tabasco but that may just be an East Coast thing so no big deal. I would definitely eat here again if I'm ever in the area.

This was my first time here at Pier 88 we didn't realize that it was Mother's Day so it was kind of busy but the staff here did a great job. They helped everybody, answered questions and were patient even though some of the other patrons were not. The waitress (with black frame glasses) that helped our large table had two other large tables, she even may have had more but she got us everything we asked for and our orders were correct and she helped me as I hadn't been to a seafood boil before. I tried the signature combo c3 per her recommendation and it was pretty good and good portions too. I would comeback and dine here again

Over the past 2 visits/deliveries...the quality of the food has gone down. My crab legs and shrimp were overcooked and the sausages were undercooked. The only thing that was perfect were the potatoes and boiled egg. My daughter and I both ended up with stomach issues after eating some of the crab legs and sausages. She had a pound of snow crabs and headless shrimp. She did not even finish half of the claw before saying something was wrong with her food. I tasted her food and her crabs were overcooked/old tasting.

I am going to label everything with number of how many disappointments we experienced. First of all, we were immediately greeted with a "NO REFUNDS" sign when we walked in, alerting us of a horrendous evening ahead. This sign informed us that they must get a lot of refunds here. The place was covered in signatures on the walls, which kind of degraded the ambiance. The waiter was nice, and service was fast.Appetizers1. Overly chewy calamari, first disappointment of the nightBut the hush puppies were good2. Although, Cocktail sauce did not have enough horseradishOur order3. Cajun fries literally no Cajun Catfish poboy was flavorful however.4. But this was easily overrided with the Fried oysters being too fishy- means they're old and not fresh, like any seafood place should be.Everything was steaming hot BUT this was only seen as a very minor win because-5. Whiting fish was left with the skin on and then fried. It was like chewing a wad of rubber if you took a big bite6. Onion rings not full onions, instead they were minced and shaped to be rings. It tasted like it but they were not real onion rings.7. Everything we ordered that was fried was not crispy enough or had flavorful batter (expecting a beer batter)Lastly,8. They calculated the tax wrong on the bill, and we had to do the math ourselves.Overall a complete disappointment. Family and I would not recommend coming here. Get your seafood somewhere else and save your money.

Horrible service. Went in with family for a special dinner hoping to be treated well. Spent 2 + hours waiting for food AND drinks. You try spending a special date night with a 8 year old waiting for hours to get drinks. Not happy at all. There are signs that say no refunds which I found to be in hindsight to be a measure of this business. When the food finally came after 3+ hours after sitting down, the food was cold. Will NOT be coming back with family.

I ate here on Sunday for there 'All day Happy hour' and it did not disappoint. My wife and I both got PO Boys with a side and an appetizer each, Chicken nuggets and French fries for the kiddo, and A draft beer for just under $50. Food was great and the beer was cold! Our server Missy, was very fast and checked on us multiple times throughout our visit. I saw a different review on here about inappropriate music but we didn't find that to be the case at all, the lighting is a bit dim but wasn't that big of a deal. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

Went there for lunch, but the only real lunch you could get seemed to be fried. Waiter nice but did not know the specials nor the menu items (I.e. differences between whiting and tilapia,). The place looks like a busy nighttime place (dim and graffiti all over walls; happy hour specials and notices of nighttime activity (DJ)), but we were there for lunch and were the only ones in house. Service was quick. Food not great. First off, batter mix was terrible. Calamari like eating rubber hose (huge onion ring size pieces). Speaking of onion rings, these were not sliced whole onions, but more like the pre fab fake kind you get in the frozen food section of the supermarket, made of minced and formed onions with wacky filler . Ugh, And please please please JACK UP your cocktail sauce with MORE horseradish!!! It tasted like weird ketchup. Blechh. Fried oysters were piping hot, but far from fresh, very old and fishy tasting. Will never, ever go back. Felt sick an hour later. Not surprised at all. Should've cut the bait line on Pier 88 and ran as soon as the calamari hit the table..

The food was mediocre. The mussels weren't bad just a little bit salty. The fried fish did not taste good. It looked better than it tasted. It had a chewy taste I could not finish it. My money was wasted. I have eaten at other location Pier 88s with no complaints.

I can understand why recent reviews for this restaurant vary widely but are mostly positive. Overall, we had a good dining experience, but there was potential for things to go south. A short check-in line with a long-ish wait, a seemingly "distracted" server, a forgotten drink order, a dry piece of fish. Yet, trust me, everything turned out great. It was a Tuesday night, about 6:00 and while the place wasn't empty, it also wasn't that busy. Yet, the three of us waited in line behind two other parties to be seated for what seemed a long time. For some reason, the situation with the party at the front of the line took several minutes to resolve and involved both staff members. Once we were seated, our server (and the server he was training) arrived almost immediately. Although we prompted him a couple times that it was our first visit, he was not particularly forthcoming with the kind of information that would have been helpful to know and seemed to expect us to be ready with both our drink and food order. We gave him our drink order, and to his credit, when I told him we needed a couple minutes, he did come back in a couple minutes. By then two of the three drinks we ordered were delivered to our table by someone else. A few minutes after our server left with our dinner orders, we started to wonder about our friend's missing beer. The manager (I think) picked up on our situation and came over. He made sure our friend got his drink. Soon our serving duo arrived with our dinners. I had ahi tuna, grilled not blackened and vegetables. The tuna was perfection. The veggies were good too. My husband enjoyed his shrimp and grits. Our friend gave his soup high praise but only ate half of his mahi mahi because it was too dry. Maybe it was, but it looked good to me. I almost asked him if I could take the rest of it back to our hotel with me, but I didn't know him that well. Both our server and his trainee were attentive throughout the meal. We don't usually order dessert except when there is key lime pie on the menu because husband likes it and will sample it at any restaurant that has it on the menu. Since it was on the dessert list here, he ordered a piece and it did not disappoint. He left me a bite as I specifically asked for just one bite (I'm on a diet), but I wish I had asked him to split it with me. Really good. Not too tart, not too sweet. It was interesting to learn from our server that some (most?) desserts are made at the restaurant. If it wasn't for the fact that someone else in our traveling group hadn't already made reservations for dinner elsewhere tonight, we would have gladly returned again tonight. I might even had ordered dessert. Next time we are in Newport News, we will be back.
