Once Upon a Vine is a great neighborhood wine and beer shop. They have a wide variety of wines from around the world, with an impressive assortment of Virginia Wines. They offer wines across a variety of prices for all budgets. They also have multiple coolers of beer also with a assortment of styles, brands and prices. The Virginia wines are organized alphabetically by vineyard name. Bob, the owner is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, The staff has always been friendlyThey often have wine tastings on Friday nights which gives you the ability to try some new wines before buyingIt is kind of tight between the aisles so I always feel like I am going to bump into something or even break a bottle when I'm in there hence the 4 star vs 5They have there own parking lot, which is rare in the neighborhood.

This is a hidden gem, a wine store which appears to be a former 7-11 or mini mart type building. They stock a large variety of wine and beers. I've never seen so many Virginia wines available in one location. The owner and most of staff have a good knowledge of wines if assistance is required. The store is a bit crowded and somewhat cluttered so it could be a challenge when crowded. They also offer wine tastings a couple of times a week so be sure to follow them on social media to review what's being offered. There's a large parking lot shared by other stores and there's plenty of street parking too.

Once upon a time, I was duly impressed with a crafty little wine and beer shop! I couldn't yelp myself taking load of pictures. Not only was their grapes and hops selection extensive, but they had other merchandise to lift your spirits! Crackers, pretzels, chips and salsa, olives, VA peanuts and snacks - plus sweets and ice cream to tempt your tastebuds. I'm not a smoker, but they carried cigars and other tobaccos from Nicaragua, England and other countries. The staff was chill and down to earth. The gift aisle and gift bags were plentiful, we picked up a hard to find Sandeman port for my mom! They also carried the Crosé rosé from Crozet VA! So much for driving over an hour! And, I'm a fan of pony sized beers which they stocked! I make Coronita salt and pepper shakers out of the bottles... score. I was really smitten with this low key but high quality wine shop in this cool, funky little neighborhood.

My son used to come here every weekend with his friends. But recently he and his friends have noticed some suspicious behavior from some of the staff. He went there on this past Sunday, only to be told by the owner that he would "stick his foot up his butt". With my son being underaged, I find this to be very disturbing, and has caused me to loose my trust in this business. After this experience, I've only heard worse things about the store. Accusations of racism and sexism towards customers have been common among employees. This is a prime example of bad business, and I do not recommend visiting this store.

Great shop for wine and more commercial brands of beer. A decent selection for your basic craft brews but my husband and I are more into the fresh hops that can be hard to find. The shop also has a pretty good bottled beer selection if your looking for more aged styles. I picked up an aged sour for a decent price but didn't find any cans that interested me. They have a parking lot and a food truck outside (that wasn't open when we visited). The shop also seemed to have a sizeable food and snack section. I noticed many cheese in the fridge, types of nuts in bags and unique spreads. I'm confident you could find something to drink and supplies for a nice cheese board here.

A neighborhood shop that's got so much potential but misses the mark. I've been popping in to Once Upon A Vine for a handful of years as a craft beer fan and likely have visited for the last time. The shop and it's selection of distribution is in the dark ages. They have introduced New England style hops into their coolers to keep up with the demand for the juicier less hop forward ipa craze, but it comes at a cost. 4pks of hoppy 16oz selections hang out in the $17-$19 range for very mediocre offerings. All styles are hugely inflated in comparison to others in the Richmond area. Corks & Kegs is a great model they should follow but don't think they are capable. Corks & Kegs now will receive my business as the quality, variety and prices of beer offered is infinitely better. Did I mention I'm a lakeside resident? Once Upon a Vine is the creepy old guy at the party trying to stay relevantly cool, and is failing.

This is a great neighborhood location to come to and grab some drinks to take home, or to a get-together. If we are getting with friends or looking for something different we can always come to this location. Many times they will have a movie for kids and families on the weekends, and it is always a fun time and a very good idea. There are lots of different wines and beers, and peanuts too! If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, or that you cant find at the local stores give Once Upon a Vine a try.

I am a huge fan of craft beer therefore if I find a liquor store in my travels that have a large selection I am one happy lady! Such was my trip to Once Upon a Vine which I found here on yelp. The business is somewhat on a side street & upon entering the parking lot we noted a picnic table outside & a food truck that appeared closed. I wasn't quite sure I was at a liquor store, restaurant, or both. The area was questionable, at least for this out-of-towner. Once inside I was happy to see they did indeed have a large selection of beer. They had several beers from local breweries as well which we hadn't tried. I found the prices to be as little high on craft beers that I knew. The gentleman at the counter was very personable & we chatted with him for a bit before we happily hit the road with our purchases. One negative is the place reeked of cigarette smoke! As a non smoker the smell was very distasteful.

To Pete, Rob, Bob, and the whole staff: Nice job.Richmond is a relatively small city, so as I would expect the actual number of beers they have is small to medium. BUT they have a great selection, showcasing the local breweries and even from those out West. They definitely have a great taste for beer. I mean, they carry some brews that you can't get out West. The staff as a whole is made up of some of the nicest people. I got so much stuff, mainly for my buddy, that they hooked me up all sorts of boxes and packing material so that the goods don't get damaged when I bring them over to his place. They even have weekly breweries come in for a tasting, I think, weekly on Fridays.

Once Upon a Vine (clever name) offers a great selection of wine and beer in a residential area of Richmond off of Patterson. There are many local VA wines and lots of varietals from all over the world. The beer is in the refrigerated section or on the right side with all of the glassware. We were looking for some beers that we can't get in North Carolina and Once Upon a Vine always has what we are looking for. The staff is really helpful and the prices are reasonable. We also saw a food truck outside on a Sunday evening so it looks like you can also grab a bite to eat. This bottle shop has a bit more than the traditional selection at the grocery store and it is a great place for local brews.
