Ocean House

Wowie! What a gem of a place. Popped in after a few hours roasting on the beach...they have lots of seating options from inside to outside as well as an "upper deck" patio with a long line of barstools all overlooking the ocean (in which our fabulous server Carly pointed out the playful dolphins at sea). They have an extensive signature cocktail menu, and Carly made us delicious cocktails with fresh ingredients and hand blended the frozen ones! No swirling cocktails here that have been spinning around a frozen washing machine all day. Hooray! Carly was knowledgeable about the area and the menu (my land lubber sister does not like seafood!) and she made great recommendations. We tried the rum runner punch, the lemonade, and a frozen margarita and they were all DELICIOUS. The upstairs patio had fans going creating a welcome breeze. For lunch I had the crab dip and shrimp cocktail. The crab dip was blended smooth, served warm, and the flavor was the perfect amount of crabby, and it came with a generous amount of crispy crackers to dip. The shrimp cocktail was well seasoned, chilled, and served with cocktail sauce that had the perfect amount of horseradish. I also dipped the cold shrimp in the warm crab dip which was also a great combo of flavors. My sister had the chicken sandwich which came with fries AND hush puppies. They were crunchy fries and crispy hush puppies. The chicken sandwich was also cooked perfectly. All white meat and also well seasoned. Carly, our server was awesome. Super friendly and helpful, she also made us a to go cocktail, and I was going to refill my bottle of water that I brought inside, but she swapped it out for a new one instead. Much appreciated!The tab was $120 for 3 dishes, and 5 cocktails which seems about standard for VB, if not leaning towards a bit of a deal given the extra layers of service. This kind of good food and good service at an unassuming beach bar is just what we needed! #Recommend!

The menu looked good from the street but inside this place was dead. I know it was a Monday but it's summer. We had to find someone to get a seat because no one was at the hostess table. The bar next door also plays super load music. The waitress acted like she didn't want to work there. Food was good ok. I ordered the crab cake sandwich. It was a little soft but good flavor. If your around 22nd on the boardwalk you need to check this place out. You get to have some yummy drinks. This one was a Horny Rita!! Delish. The view was amazing especially if your a people watcher. Just seeing the people enjoying their day along with the ocean view. Best way to be outside without the sun in your face enjoy a snack with a yummy drink.

The outside of the restaurant looked promising, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it. When we arrived there were only two tables filled inside and a handful of tables filled outside. There was one person on the list in front of us as we were told it would be a 30 minute wait due to a staffing shortage. We got a drink at the bar (which appeared dirty) and decided to wait it out. The view from the restaurant was nice and definitely the best part of this experience. When we were finally seated inside (where there is no view) the waitress hurriedly took our order and the food arrived about 20 minutes later. There's nothing special here. The food was just ok. The crab legs were very small and not steamed well so they were hard to crack. The peel and eat shrimp was ok, but honestly not flavorful. We also had salads which were fine. I would not recommend stopping here.

Meh. Long wait to make an order, get the food and pay. Food is double meh. Coleslaw in plastic containers. Why? You brought rest of the food on the place. Why not place coleslaw there as well? Crab cake was overfried. Salmon with 2 sides is overpriced.

My husband and I chose this restaurant while walking down the strip! Both the food and service was great! I got the ribs and shrimps. It was good, just needed a little more seasoning. The sauce to dip my shrimp in made up for that. My husband got the fish, chicken tenders and shrimp, he said it was all delicious. We will definitely go back the next time we visit VA Beach!

I was staying next door & wanted a quick bite to eat. Made my way to the Ocean House to try it out. I ordered a coconut libation to start of with. Too damn sweet for my taste. For my main course I ordered the fish & chips. The best thing on that plate were the hush puppies, quite tasty & well fried. The fish was limp, slightly battered and completely lacking any crispness from the batter.It's been the worst fish & chips I've ever had. For what I paid for, I should've just headed down to Waterman's where the food is good as well as the drinks. Oh and you'll also get charged a portion of the credit card transaction fee as well as some employee retention fee on top of the overpriced menu. Skip this spot and go elsewhere you're not missing anything except additional fees.Buen Provecho!

I placed an order for pick up and received it by the time it said it would be ready. The girl taking orders was working on an order, taking an order and finishing mine but was very friendly and acknowledged everyone there. The Musubi was good. The salmon poke bowl I ordered with octopus and all the sauces on the side... didn't have any octopus or sauce on the side so it was rice, edemame, nori and salmon. Extremely plain and the quality of salmon just tasted like.. water. My other bowl was the spicy tuna with everything on it and was really good and enjoyed by my buddy. I was jealous. I emailed the company and they said they would refund me for my salmon bowl since it was not how I ordered it. Very quick response. Might give it another shot... but probably won't.

Cool place. Like most ocean front places overpriced but we had some of the simple dishes and the were good. Fresh jerk shrimp tacos and we shared that and also had the fish tacos. Surprised that the seafood was fresh. Good slaw and crisp veggies. Upstairs the bar had good drinks where you can actually taste the liquor. Not an amazing place but good.

I'm going to go ahead and give this place 3 stars but its only based on our rooftop experience.First, the entertainment was the highlight!! The DJ can definitely bring the crowd in. But the drinks will make you want to leave (the bartenders couldn't make a drink to save their lives!), so I recommend sticking to beer or straight shots. The crowd is very diverse and fun.Finally, the rooftop is really cute with activities to enjoy. I'd come again for the music and beer!
