Hands down the best escape room we have been to and we have done a lot of escape rooms. While staying in OBX, we decided to escape from the sun at OBX Escapes. We started with Rest in Peace Motel then escaped from Mutiny on the Lark the next day. We did not escape from Rest in Peace Motel, but had a blast. The theater, decor, story, and challenges were incredible. I'm not confident another escape room we do will top this one. I should have asked for more hints in the beginning, but probably still wouldn't have made it out in time. The employees are awesome. They are enthusiastic, patient, and helpful. Abby and Wesley ran the Rest in Peace Motel room and Pierce ran the Mutiny on the Lark. We enjoyed learning from Pierce afterwards about the creation of escape rooms. We are so impressed with the time, planning, skill, and creativity that went into designing these rooms. Highly recommend checking out OBX Escapes if you are living in or visiting OBX! Parking: ample spaces in the plaza's parking lotCost: $50/person/90 minutes or $35/person/60 minutes. Mutiny on the Lark and Rest in Peace are 90 minute rooms.

Visiting the area again with friends. This room was a bit harder for accommodations, but we made it work. We had a different room reserved about 5-6 months in advance, but we find out the day before that we need to switch themes from Melt Down to something else. We end up doing Cold Case. We all like this one more than Blind Tiger. There are a total of 4 rooms one can do for physical accommodations at this particular escape room. The lighting was good for the aesthetic, but since phones are not permitted in the room, we think that flashlights that the escape room temporarily provides should be available to minimize on eye strain. There are definitely some 4 and 5 star aspects from my experiences and this review. The intro screen does an excellent job explaining nuances such as that there is no need to lift certain items to find other items (as some escape rooms want you to look through "everything").The particular room also has a bathroom as part of the setup. While it should be obvious from this particular setup that this particular bathroom is definitely not a place you would actually go (besides for the entertainment value of the game itself when accessible), I have personally heard of a story online on a reputable group website where a participant accidentally did their business in a different escape room.My friends made a big deal about solving the room. We all thanked the game masters for being so accommodating to help us solve some of the things we didn't solve or figure out in a reasonable time and I half-joked with my friends saying that I would've been happy to 'pose' in the shower and such if allowed. Without the game masters' help, I would've been stuck in the mirror with Dawn Renee- foreveveveeeer!!

We exhausted all our local escape rooms so this was the best option to celebrate my sister's birthday. A few years earlier we did the Blind Tiger Speakeasy room for my birthday. That one's a doozy! It's the only escape room in the Outerbanks, but they do it well! We did the Cold case murder of Dawn Renèe. There were a few jump scares or at least to us (LOL) , let's just say a few shrieks might have been heard. The room is dimly lit, but mini flashlights are provided. I really enjoy rooms that have prop triggers and this one did not disappoint. There are unlimited hints, however your game master will ask if your group prefers to be provided a hint/nudge after 5 minutes or if stuck on a puzzle or whether to ask for hints as needed. Hints are provided on the tv monitor with a sound to notify you a hint is provided. Logic is key. For this particular room you get only one shot to solve if you muck up on the first one, it's game over. We almost had it but then we made our teammate second guess herself. Otherwise we would have escaped, womp womp. Go with your instinct.Since we had last been, they've added a lot more rooms and even expanded with VR games. The photo signs are hilarious & even the ones for the restroom. I'd like to do the Rest In Peace Motel next, but four players are required. It's a solid establishment. No cellphones are allowed in the rooms, but they are locked up.

Oh. My. Gosh. I was lost for words when we first were brought into the room. The rest in peace motel is NOT for the faint hearted. The amount of detail in this room was the greatest decorations I have ever seen. The amount of effort put into this was fantastic. The price was higher than most escape rooms we have done but honestly I would have paid more for this room because it was so perfect. They blind fold you and separate you and it was such a crazy unique experience. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We also did the pirate ship one which again was super detailed and awesome. The motel was definitely our favorite. Next time we are back in the outer banks we are definitely going to do the rest of the rooms. Best escape room ever!

Love this place!!We've done several rooms here over the years, and yesterday we shut down a nuclear reactor and saved the world!! (You're welcome.) Chase was our expert game-master, and he customized our experience so we got just the right level of hinting. With only two of us, that helped. After that, we asked if we could do a VR game, and he got us all set up to escape the Lost Pyramid! That was super fun - we didn't have much VR experience at all - but Chase walked us thru and told us all we needed to know! Listen and follow directions, and you'll be able to do it! Pierce was there when we finished, to get us unhooked and debriefed. Two wonderful young gentlemen, working to provide an excellent entertainment experience! Thanks, guys.

We came here with some friends and did the Rest In Peace escape room. Honestly, if we're ever back in town I'd try it again despite trying it once because it was that cool and difficult. The concept was fun, where every person started in their own room. We used clues and were still nowhere close to being done despite some of us doing multiple escape rooms previously. Some of the things we never would have figured it out without clues. I have to leave a shorter review than usual because I don't want to give anything away, but the props were cool, the clues were difficult, and I def wouldn't choose this as a first escape room, but if you've done them before 10/10 would recommend!

Such a great place with great people that are there to make sure you have a great time. Their rooms are immersive, and they have rooms of all abilities. Such a great place to spend some fun, and stressful, time with friends or family!

Such a fun activity in the OBX. We chose to do the cold case of Dawn Renee. The room, details, storyline, game play were all pretty spectacular. It's well thought out. We escaped but found it to be challenging. Jonah was a support staff and took our celebratory pictures!
