Always enjoy O'Neal's when we're in the area. Fried scallops were tasty. Would have liked more fish choices for lunch, but understand that fresh and seasonal limits options. Will be back!

My brother-in-law found O'Neal's Sea Harvest and we planned a lunch stop there while driving to the OBX.The restaurant looked somewhat unassuming from the outside but that didn't stop us! We walked in, ordered then grabbed a table on the front porch.I ordered the fried fish and shrimp basket with pickled beets and slaw. Hubby ordered the fried fish basket with onion rings and slaw. His brother ordered the soft shell crab basket with fries and slaw. Our sister-in-law ordered the fried fish basket with potato salad and slaw.Everyone absolutely loved their meal! The fried fish was flaky and super moist. The light batter was true perfection. Some of the best fried fish I've had. I throughly enjoyed the pickled beets, something not commonly seen on restaurant menus. The slaw tasted fresh, a little sweet and was chilled well. The fries were seasoned and crispy. To finish off a fantastic meal, we all shared a slice of the pineapple cake. Possibly the best item I've ever had with pineapple, it was so very delicious! So moist and flavorful with a nice amount of perfectly sweet, cream cheese icing. It was a truly spectacular meal start to finish! We would all highly recommend it.

Well here we go again. This review is similar to my last two of O'Neal's. It's not based on the restaurant or the fresh fish. We stopped in yesterday because my wife wanted me to fix her oysters Rockefeller and king crab legs for her birthday dinner. I explained to her that I really didn't trust their king crab to be worthy of the price they would charge for them. But, she wanted them anyway. She said that they should be okay because they are frozen. Guess what? They had probably been sitting in that freezer for a couple years. They were plain flat out worthless. Again, I would normally bring it to a businesses attention, but the last time I complained and the only time I complained, the manager dismissed it and said I could buy from someone else. I also bought a pint of oysters. There were 17 oysters in the pint, 2 which were decent size. The other 15 were small to medium. It was mostly liquid. They are running their business based on two things. They are the only game in town at the moment and in season, name recognition. They have officially lost me as a customer. Well I may go in for fresh fish if I can't find any elsewhere, but i can find oysters and king crab legs elsewhere. When a business doesn't care, i just don't understand. I'm also not a fan of them asking for tips either. You don't tipped someone just because they checked you out. They say put your card in there, and then they say, okay now you can add add a tip if you like and sign. I just say no thank you and sign. They ripped me off with slack oysters and 2 year old frozen crab legs and want a tip. Here's a tip. Treat your customer's fair if you want to keep them. I started out 5 years ago spending over 5000 dollars a year buying seafood from them. Last year I spent over 2000, because I had backed off. 2025, I have spent 250 dollars, which was yesterday, they will be lucky to see another 250 over the rest of the year. The reason it's not 1 star is because the fish is fresh. By the way, whalebone Seafood is tickled pink because they have been getting during the season when they are open. And they show their appreciation. They immediately recognize me and bend over backwards to help because I am in a couple times a week.

Fresh off the boats, this fish market has a great variety of seafood. The people are friendly and the food is delicious. The smell inside is rough if you've never been in a fish market but there is seating outside.

THE FRESHEST FISH YOU WILL EVER HAVE. I have been coming here since 2017 and will keep coming. Do yourself a favor and get their fresh catch of the day. You will not be disappointed. The freshest fish I have ever had, and I eat a lot of fish. I refuse to make the trip and not stop here. Clearly people are catching on because the place was packed the past few times we went but it is worth the wait.

Who knew you could get lunch at a seafood market? Shrimp basket with fries and coleslaw. Very affordable. Generous serving. We sat on the outside deck on a beautiful September day. After lunch we brought shrimp and scallops to take home to Virginia and enjoy later. Staff is super nice!

This no frills places offers the freshest seafood imaginable! I got tuna steaks that were freshly caught that morning. It was a super fast and friendly service as well. I would definitely come back if/when I travel to Outerbanks again.

What a gem! So glad we stumbled upon this quaint seafood market and lunch counter. It is our first trip to Roanoke Island and we have spent time exploring all the nooks and crannies. The village of Wanchese, on the south end of the island, is a quiet yet bustling working waterway. There is no effort spent attracting tourists. One would choose to visit Manchese to eat some of the freshest, most delicious seafood on the outer ands and to get a true sense of the commercial fishing industry. If we were staying longer, O'Neals would be our go-to seafood market. Everything in the counter was very recently swimming in the ocean and local waterways. You know that fishy smell many places have? You won't find it here. Fresh fish smells wonderful! The lunch menu is fixed with daily specials. My husband and I shared the fried shrimp and Frisch-of-the-day, drum, basket with coleslaw, fries and onion rings. There were many sides to choose from. The picture says it all...... lightly breaded, fried to perfection, light on the seasoning which allowed all the flavors of the seafood to shine. We purchased two frozen crab cakes to take home for dinner and made a second trip to the counter to buy a slice of homemade Oreo cake (a local islander makes cakes from her 70-year old grandmother's recipe.) perfect end to a most delicious lunch. The people are authentic and welcoming. The lunch crowd I a mix of island visitors and local fisherman. The indoor dining room is clean and open, with porch seating available. We will be returning here on all our trips!

Spouse and I have visited O'Neals at the holidays for several years and have had mostly positive experiences. However, our most recent visit has made us rethink whether we want to continue to give them our business. First, their seafood is always fresh and tasty. We wish O'Neals short order cooks would be more receptive to our requests for them to lighten up on the amount of salt they put on our orders but for the most part, their food is always topnotch. Where O'Neal's falls down is customer service and ambiance. We expect the place to smell like a wharf and fried food. What we don't expect from a service-oriented business is the indifferent, crusty and sometimes downright rude attitudes we've encountered on a couple of our most recent visits. Basically, O'Neals is the only seafood place in the immediate area and, frankly, most of the people working there (including managers) act as if they know they don't have any major competition. I was barked at by a woman there for trying to fill up a small ice chest (for our fish purchase) before coming inside to ultimately spend over $150 on lunch and fresh seafood to take home. Even if we weren't planning to spend money there, her tone was totally uncalled for. At the end of the day, we're talking about frozen water, right? On a second visit, the woman behind the fish counter snapped at me to keep my fingers away from the top of the display case (I needed to point because she wasn't listening carefully as I tried to choose certain pieces of fish). To my astonishment, I shortly thereafter saw this same worker handling money without washing her hands between preparing customers' orders. We know O'Neals gets lots of out of state customers (ourselves included) but no one there seems to want to engage customers to even exchange pleasantries. On a recent visit, there were a couple of HS or college age girls behind the counter simply chatting with each other. No "hello" no "where you from" no "come back soon". Nothing. And no, we don't expect all workers to want to be besties with us, especially when they're busy. But on that particular occasion, it was quite slow. Again, it would be nice if they could at least engage with customers a bit more. It's hard to want to patronize a business that seems almost exclusively focused on taking our money.
