New Buffet City

Up front; all my reviews are based on my expectation going in. I don't expect a wrap from the grocery store to be high tea with the Queen, and I rate accordingly. That said ...New Buffet City is my go-to for dinner when I am in Portsmouth for work overnight. they recently were closed for renovation and came out of it well. I have dined here more than 5 times and the food is always fresh and they are mindful of crowd size. the buffet is not over heated on slow weekdays, so the food is not overcooked. The hibachi bar (I call Mongolian barbecue) has many options and is always prepared perfectly right in front of you. I have enjoyed the taste of everything in the buffet.I stopped short of 5-stars because I think they could afford to have a bit more variety of the chilled food - salads, fruit and desert - and several visits it seemed like the soups were cook down.I am a fan and will continue to visit as it is completely worth the $15.

Decent food for the price you pay, service is not too bad and the ambience okay all in all is not a bad experience

This was some of the worst food I've ever had in my life. I ate a bite of every single thing at this restaurant and I didn't like any of it. Everything either no taste at all or had a super weird and off-putting taste that I didn't expect when I bit into it. The Texas toast was flavorless as were the spring rolls. The cream cheese rangoons were so stuffed with cheese that it was way too overwhelmingly sweet. All of the meat tasted like it'd been cooked in a pan that had never been washed, and nothing was seasoned. I mean nothing. I was still hungry when I left, because I was so disgusted that I couldn't even stand to eat enough to satiate me.

Went for dinner at 530pm. Quality has severely gone down hill. Selection of buffet items have decreased but yet the price has increased. No ice cream. No sushi. Mongolian item selection poor. Only jalapeño, cabbage broccoli Onion, noodles, bean sprouts and 3 meats. Used have celery, green onions, and carrots. $15 for sub par food is a waste. I think the health inspector needs to pay them a visit. Ceiling tiles completely water drenched looking like their going to fall down. AC vents covered in mold. Overall cleanliness poor. I didn't even want to venture in the restroom. I would save your money and time and avoid this place.

The food was trash!! And had a roach just walk on the table. Do not waste your money there. This happened today at lunch time!!

Price increases and they short cut the food. For example, the dumplings are not full of meat only 5% of it has meat. Temperature of the food is not routinely checked. I beaten in some cold wonton. It seems some of the food are leftovers from the other day. The men's bathroom is flooded. It was like this 6 months ago when I was last here. Mention it to the owner, didn't seems they taken care of it. Unsanitary!!!! Wasn't worth 14.99 for a stall, leftover buffet. Sakura on Harborview. Buffet is 110% better.

High quality food but they got rid of sushi and ice cream The food they had was delicious and 12.99 is an awesome price for all day including dinner

I love love love this place! I think I eat here, well order to go at least once a week. The hibachi is my everything! The cook at this station has job security. I have been visiting this location at least for a solid year and he has been the only one manning this station. And he does an awesome job! I visit so much... he now speaks and confirms the count of hibachi orders. He even asks if I need anything that I don't see on the hibachi station.A matter of fact... I need to visit today!Well a few weeks ago, I did try out the Buffet... so not a fan. Well my style of eating... no bueno! Now don't judge my opinion of the buffet because this Sunday afternoon at 1pm, the restaurant was full of patrons... backs bent, forks up and down, smiles and laughter filled the restaurant. This restaurant has received several "Best of" honors... so they are winning.I am giving the hibachi station all 5 stars!!!! Maybe because I have a great rapport with the staff... they show me much love... but still the food made fresh ... overall so worthy of 5 stars!The parking in front of the restaurant is limited because this restaurant is located in a busy shopping area.Shops nearby include: The Bounce House, Gabes, Big Lots, Dollar Tree, A hair salon and many more. As a result, more than likely you will have to walk a little ways before reaching this restaurant. But pack your patience, you may get lucky a find a close space.The restaurant is open daily from 11am to 10pm... I love it!Have fun and enjoy life :)

I used to go there all the time. It's probably one of the worst places to eat around here now. The quality of food is very, very poor and the roaches running on the table are in abundance.

If there's anything less than a zero star, then that's what I'd have chosen.I went with my husband and kids(7 in total), and the customer service is horrible. I complained to the manager about the cold food and told him it was our first time dining there and we were not having a good experience. All the manager said was "OK", no apologies whatsoever, and he was just making stupid and unreasonable excuses .Also why would they charge an 11 year old as an adult? That's nonsense.Here customers are always wrong while they are always right. Definitely our first and last time dining there.
