At one time this was like a second home, literally I was here six out of seven days of the week with my son for swim team on Tide Swimming. He now swims year around at the Princess Anne Y and I find myself back at Trashmore today which seems odd. Tide Swimming continues to use this location for age-group swimmers. The Trashmore YMCA could be the oldest at the Beach. It most certainly is the most central. Located off I-264 and I'm sure you pass it often and wonder how to access. There are two entry points off Independence. Southern and Edwin both take you into the Y. Parking is typically adequate, but usually full in front. The only way to enter is the front. The parking lot and walk up often has debris like it did today. This Y features an indoor and outdoor pool which is my primary reason for coming with my son who is a club swimmer. The 6 lane 25 meter indoor is old and rough, but they keep the water clean. Maintenance is an issue. A lot of rust can be seen including an overhead roof access that's a rusty mess. There is spectator seating to watch lessons. I believe all lessons are conducted in this pool. A small youth locker room off deck as well as an adult locker room. In the past they have been challenged on cleanliness. The outdoor 8 lane 25 yard recreation pool also has a small adjacent water park only used in warm months. This is the pool that my son would mainly practice in. It's in great shape and swim is year around when bubbled in the Fall and removed in Spring. There are no restrooms off deck. Other programming I'm familiar with is Spin and Yoga, but they have much more. Cardio and weight rooms are divided. The Trashmore Y has several classrooms that are used for programming. One of the most popular features of the center is childcare. The final aspect of my write up highlights staff that I have encountered over three years. This includes front desk check-in and aquatics. I have been very pleased with their professionalism, friendliness and helpfulness. Lots of examples of going above and beyond for our family. I think a 3.5 suits them, but rounding down due to aging of the building and maintenance.

Great gym with alot of things to offer!A variety of classes, friendly customer service, and a clean facility.Currently, I just utilize the treadmills. There are 3 different areas with treadmills in the building. My favorite ones are the ones that are in the movie theater room. Enjoy watching a movie while going for an extended jog! There are also treadmills with TVs so you can watch shows while getting some cardio in.For those with kids, there are excellent childcare services. This place can provide a wide array of services for all sorts of needs.Location is also great being right next to Mt. Trashmore. Once you're done with the weights, you can go for an outdoor run!

All of my experiences at Mt. Trashmore YMCA have been outstanding. When I actually get to choose which YMCA location to visit on a day off, I end up picking this branch. They have a great selection of free weights, deadlift area, pull up bars, and a real squat rack (not one of those where the bar is attached to rails). The cardio selection is also unbeatable: machines, lap pool, and some of the best running trails in the area right across the parking lot. I am not a parent, but my future self with kids digs having the 2 hours of child watch provided to be alone and get into a workout. The playgrounds next door don't hurt either.

We started our membership at this YMCA in early 2018 and we couldn't be happier. The staff are all really friendly and my kids love the childcare center. Also, the outdoor pool area is nice and great for kids. The indoor pool was recently redone as well. I highly recommend this YMCA

This has to be the WORST YMCA I've ever been too. I usually go to a different Y closer to where I live. My son is taking school age swim lessons however I waited too late in signing him up for the next session so I had to go to the only Y that had space available...Mt Trashmore. The indoor pool at this Y looks like trash. The pool is filthy...it looks like it has never been cleaned. The railings and stairs in the pool are very rusty and looks unsafe. The area near the skylights over the pool have rust and chipped paint. The door handles leading back to the main area of the Y is covered with what looks like green rust. The locker room really shocked me. Unlike the Y I normally go to where the showers are in the back and lockers are located as soon as you walk in...well at Mt Trashmore the showers are located as soon as you walk in and the lockers are in the back. Even the life guards seem very relaxed. At the Y I normally go to kids under age 13 aren't allowed in the pool w/o a parent or guardian if they haven't passed the swim test and earned a green necklace. I've noticed lots of kids under the age of 13 in the pool (indoors and out) without a parent or guardian and no green necklace. I can't wait til my son's swim lessons are over...I can't see myself coming back to this Y.

Like many of the Hampton Roads YMCA this is an older building that's been updated the to accommodate the changes in fitness equipment and such...so layout isn't ideal but it's not nearly as bad as some of the other guys or Y's for that matter. Staff/Service: Same as all the Y's polite and always willing to help. Free Weight: The free weight area is in the back of the cardio equipment room directly behind a multi-purpose functional training cage making it smaller than it should be. Weight Machines: These are located in a separate room away from the free weights but at least it's all unto themselves. This makes the layout much more conducive for maintaining a good flow to your workout routine. Cardio Machines: Plenty of newer running and elliptical machines, and bikes with no waiting...at least not any of the times I've been there. Gym: Good condition for basketball, sprints or other leg work type workouts. Pool: Despite being a swimmer I haven't used it so I can't comment.Locker Room: Plenty of room with full size lockers, showers, hair dryers and etc. Overall: Despite being an older building it has everything you'll need. Coupled with the location and partnership with the other Y's in the area and it's a pretty good and convenient membership to have. Still I can't see giving this location any more than 3 Stars.

Absolutely horrible customer service at 5:15 pm on 10/23/18. Due to an unexpected job downgrade, I had to suspend my membership that I started on 9/30/18. Woman on the telephone said I had to come in to cancel the draft on my account for membership. I mentioned at the time what a hardship that was and how I had to move by the end of this month. I also told her that I had only been a member for 23 days. At NO time was I informed that there would be a 30 day wait period and that they were going to charge a second month to my account in order to close it. I was NOT given a copy of my joining agreement when I signed it on 9/30/18. I have now paid $160 for 4 visits. ABSOLUTELY GREEDY CORPORATION with NO compassion at all. I will NEVER have anything to do with the YMCA again. From an extremely upset Virginia public school teacher who DOES NOT have the money for this 2nd month of charges.

This was my gym before I went to great bridge! But I do love that you can go run at trashmore while leaving your kids in the stay and play! Staff is amazing with my kids. ESP one lady is the nursery area she's so great. ( can't remember her name she's a small Asian lady) very calm and patient. Classes are nice and the sauna is as well. We love the pool area but don't like how older kids bombard the kiddie area and the lifeguards do not say anything.

It is very cumbersome to cancel your membership and they are determined to draft your card for another month, even if you give them three weeks notice. I was able to get it done eventually but it took some persistence.

I really enjoy the new employees very helpful and respectful. I would have given a rating of 5 stars but they took away Activ Trax kios. It made it a no brainer what ever you wanted to work on, it would print out a daily routine. Once the routine was completed and log in, it would progress you to your next routine. Blame it on he plandemic! Bring it back, if we can touch the equipment.......
