Ms. Mary's Resturant

I really don't like to leave bad reviews, but this is one I had to do. I would never, EVER, use or recommend this restaurant for any of your catering needs. They were hired to cater our wedding that was originally scheduled in November, but we had to postpone the wedding due to the world's recent COVID pandemic. We had already paid $1000 deposit, and we didn't want to lose that. They offered to allow us up to 1 year, to use the deposit. So, we decided that we would use them for my bridal shower, which was for 20 guest. Keep in mind that they were perfectly fine with the date change; but all of a sudden, I was told, via phone conversation, that there was a $250 tasting fee since we cancelled the wedding and changed to a different date. No where in the contract did it state there would be a $250 fee for tasting if there is a cancellation or date change. Let's keep in mind contract was NOT cancelled, as they did provide a service, on 10/17/2020. So, again why were we charged a tasting fee? Didn't want to make a big fuss about it, so I asked for an itemized receipt for the items listed below, however, I was provided with a new, and modified contract that showed these items: 20 servings of Bang Bang Shrimp1 pan of Meatballs40 assorted pieces of fried chicken1 pan of Sweet Potato Soufflé1 pan of Mac and Cheese20 servings of pasta saladFruit TrayVeggie Tray Fee ScheduleService Full Package Service ...... $750.00 Tax 13.5%........................................ 101.25Gratuity 15 % .............................Total........................................ $850.25Now, the food...the chicken was not fresh, it had obviously be reheated, dry, no seasoning, looked as if it was fried in old grease with black specks, it was so bad that we threw away 30 pieces. The mac and cheese was dry, cheese only at the top, and not throughout. I say, if you can't successfully make these staples, then there is no need to be a soul food business. Ok, then there was the Bang Bang shrimp, mushy and was garnished with red cabbage and lemons...hmmm. Anyway, the fruit and veggie tray was ok. We did put the fruit tray on a nicer plater. Actually, we put everything on a nice platter, as I will not serve out of tin pans like they do a BBQ's. Meatballs, were just ok. The pasta salad was dry, and had to add to it to make it taste like something. I say all of this to say, we threw $1000 in the trash. It amazes me how people portray to run a successful business with excellent customer service once they get your money. All the other vendors worked with my fiance and I, and I really thought Ms. Mary's would have too. Well, I guess they thought they did by allowing us to use our deposit for my bridal shower, and I do appreciate that, but to provide us with a product that wasn't of quality or freshness was unacceptable.

I am waiting for photos to come back. They did my wedding reception. It was exceptional! Guests & kids loved the food. On-site service was impeccable.The next event I have it will definitely be done by Ms Mary!!!As soon as I get photo I will post.

It was disgusting we got meatloaf which was warmed up no flavor, greens full of stems no flavor Mac and cheese was old. We got smothered pork chops and herb chicken after spending $40 we threw it away. I grew up on Sweetie Pies in STL. This place is a joke. People when you walk into a "soul food" restaurant and you don't smell any aromas just turn around and walk out. I wish I did!BTW nice people though.

I ordered the Smoke BBQ wings, Sweet Potato Soufflé and Macaroni and Cheese. Great place they mainly do catering so their hours might change.

Hi1000 for a tray of old fruit, 40 pieces of dry as the Sahara sands chicken cooked in old oil, of which 30 pieces were not even edible and thrown away. I have witnesses. Bang Bang shrimp that had lost its boom, pasta salad that had macaroni as old as the feather in Yankee Doodle's cap, and sweet potatoes that was at best, ok! Seriously embarassed of what we served 20 guest for my wife's bridal shower. We had to reschedule our wedding day due to Covid. The place we had to reschedule wouldn't allow her to cater there so we used the deposit for the shower food. She literally told us that the aboved mention items for 20 would absorb our deposit. Horrific! I was told by more than a few professionals that her tastings were good, but the execution of what you actually pay for was at best mediocre. We had to cancel our wedding plans due to Covid. The venue in which we had to reschedule with would not allow us to use her! THANK GOD!!!! If she couldn't handle preparing fried chicken and sweet potatoes for 20, I would have hated to pay $7000 for her to feed 100. That's the blessing in it all. Our experience with this company was good until we actually tasted the food! I was nauseated. My wife was embarrassed to the pint that her guests were having to comfort her about it. We were happy that they allowed us to use the deposit for her shower, but I was stuck with the cost because she already had our money. I just didn't expect the slop that was prepared for our guest and my wife in such an otherwise lovely event. I wouldn't allow them to cater my imaginary dogs birthday. The food was that bad! If you check my other Yelp comments, you will see that im pretty reasonable and positive. There wasn't anything positive about the execution of this food, including the stale crackers we received with the cheese tray. It was bad

Rainy and ugly, so what better to put you in a great mood then southern food with a creole kick. That describes this establishment of home cooked comfort food. It's not a large restaurant, but they deliver big flavor. I had the smothered pork chops, greens and a delicious sweet potato soufflé oh can't forget that great cornbread that comes with the dishes. The prices are reasonable and the service is awesome. A definite diamond in the ruff. This was my first of many visits to come!

OMG I went to Ms Mary's for the first time today during their All you can eat Sunday brunch special. The food is amazing I got their meat loaf with side greens and sweet potato soufflé and my husband got the baked chicken with side potatoes and greens. This the best soul food I've had in this area. Not to mention the desert German chocolate cake and peach cobbler makes you wanna slap somebody. I will definitely be returning and advise anyone who wants authentic homemade soul food this is the place to go!!!!

It's was okay. VERY nice people but the food was just okay. Shrimp had been reheated and so rubbery that I couldn't cut with a butter knife. The rice was bland and green beans cooked too death.

You will have to make a little effort locating them, but when you do, Ms Mary's will blow you away! The Jerk Wings have such depth of flavor, and the meat JUMPS off the bone. The Oxtail melts away from the fork and the Shrimp and Grits are buttery, scrumptious heaven. The sweet potato souffle and honey cornbread are like desserts in their own right, the mac n cheese is everything you want it to be, thick and creamy with a golden cheesey crust.Tuesday is a magician in the kitchen and Ahisha is a joyful host. The restaurant is jazzy and inviting, and always smells great. Go often, and tell your friends!

Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! The food at this place makes me think of the Grandma of all Grandmamas cooking. Boy was this food tasty. I had the meatloaf, a side of mac and cheese and the collards. The meatloaf was smothered with marinara and onions. The mac and cheese was...well just full of cheesy deliciousness and the collards where not out of a can, cooked and seasoned to perfection. The food was full of flavor. We chatted with Ms. Tuesday who was this wonderful woman at the counter. Ms. Mary's restaurant does the catering for the Mariners Museum which is a very interesting fact. This was my first time and I will definitely make this restaurant a once a week thing. I might even use them if I am not in the mood to cook. A few things to note, its not a huge restaurant so you can't bring like 20 of your girls in there for lunch, they do catering large and small and even do wedding cakes. The food is affordable and they even will cook whatever you ask them to cook within reason of course. Check them out and Bon Appetit!
