I was visiting Virginia Beach and had a few hours to spare. We went to Mount Trashmore Park where they were holding the Fil Fest USA event. It was just a few miles away from our hotel. What I liked about this park was how clean it was. The parking lot looked safe and clean, with plenty of spaces. The restrooms looked decent as well. There is a lake, Lake Trashmore, which was so peaceful. It was a bit gloomy when I was here but I still enjoyed looking out into the lake. There is a lot of space out here and plenty of paved walkways. There's a large hill if you have kids that enjoy rolling down them.Definitely a good place to get some steps in, have a picnic, walk your dog, or just look out into the lake.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Mt. Trashmore Park before! I've been coming here for well over 20 years. This is a wonderful park to go to when you have little ones since they have an awesome playpark with rubber mats. They have hundreds of gatherings here from 4th of July fireworks, concerts, movie nights, festivals, you name it, they have it. They keep it well-maintained and clean. No one can resist the mountain itself! You can walk the stairs or the hill. There's a skate park around the corner from the playground for those who enjoy that. This is a great family area to get some exercise by the loop around the park. They also have exercise activities everywhere. Wanna have a picnic? They have many areas for that. The restrooms are clean. There are plenty of parking spaces. Keep away from geese if you see them...they will come after you!

Having frequented Mount Trashmore since my childhood, revisiting it only reaffirms why it holds a special place in my heart. Situated between 264 and Independence Blvd, this park manages to maintain a sense of tranquility despite its urban surroundings. One of my favorite, underrated features is the practical inclusion of accessible workout stations throughout the park. It's a thoughtful addition that caters to those looking to stay active without compromising the overall park experience. Whether you're into fitness or just out for a stroll, Mount Trashmore accommodates a variety of preferences. The park has always been a hub for diverse activities, from kids enjoying the playgrounds to teens honing their skills at the skate park. The availability of rented shelters for families adds a practical touch to gatherings and celebrations. It's a well-rounded space that caters to different age groups and interests. One thing that has remained consistent over the years is the park's commitment to cleanliness and order. The grounds are consistently well-maintained. The result is a welcoming and secure environment that locals can rely on.In essence, Mount Trashmore isn't just a park; it's a local institution. It is a reliable escape for residents seeking a bit of nature amid small city life. Whether you're a longtime visitor like myself or discovering it for the first time, Mount Trashmore is a testament to the enduring appeal of public park spaces.

A beautiful park that accommodates everything from a jog/walk, flying kites, fishing, playing at the playgrounds, play dates, picnics, group workouts and so much more.I enjoy coming here a lot. It is humongous so you can get a really nice work out just buy walking around or even climbing up the many stairs to get to the top of the hill. There's a few playgrounds there. One for bigger kids and one for toddlers and smaller kids. The views are amazing and the atmosphere is very welcoming. There's restrooms and water fountains here as well.

I come to this location annually for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and it's always a great event. Parking can be a bit tricky for large events like this so come early if you're hoping to get a good parking spot. It's a nice paced by course I around the lake and the "mountain" or hill makes for some great views and kite flying. For my fitness enthusiast try the stairs- this seems to be a popular workout with the locals.

This park offers a lot and it is all good. Events all the time. Summer Carnival is a fun one for sure and the fireworks are a must see for the forth of July. We recently went for the Firefighter combat challenge. If you are looking for something to do. Look up events and go check it out. This park just like most are open from sunrise to sunset. Running and walking is an Easy 1.9 mile loop with lake views and lots of ducks and geese. For more of a work out they have workout stations and you can run up and down Mount Trashmore. They have stairs going up one side and down the other. That alone is a great workoutThey have the best playground I have ever seen. It is called Kids Cove. Plenty of easy parking in that area too. Don't forget your kite. Perfect place to fly kites. Just an added note. It is Dog, Kid, and Bike friendly.A little about this unique park. Mount Trashmore is 1 of 15 Landfills that has been turned into beautiful parks. This park was transformed from a pile of trash into a wonderful mountain in 1974

One man's trash is truly another man's treasure. This park is definitely a treasure. It is amazing and has everything you would want in a park and more. There is tons and tons of park over three large parking lots. The park spans 165 acres and features two man-made mountains that were created by compacting layers of solid waste and clean soil. The main mountain, Mount Trashmore, stands 60 feet high and 800 feet long. It is marked by a large replica of the Virginia State Seal. The smaller mountain, which is near the back of the park is called Encore Hill. I saw many people running up and down the hill working out. More power to them. There is a pull bar at the base of the hill to really get the blood pumping. There was also a lot of people just sitting on top of the hills, relaxing and enjoying the breeze. The park has an amazing and well paved running trail that weaves around the park's perimeter, around the lake, and through the mountains. You can run for as long or as little as you want. As if that was not enough, the park has a fitness trail with equipment placed along the trail that you can use to do different exercises. There is a very nice outdoor amphitheater here with grass seating. It is used to host festival, small concerts, and other performances. The park has a picturesque lake with benches placed around it to sit and a small pier to go out on. You will find some picnic shelters at this park. There are 3 large and 2 medium shelters with grills by the amphitheater along the lake.. Additionally, there are 6 small shelters that also have grills located in the front of the park between the lake and the small playground area. There are 2 awesome sand volleyball courts along the lake, by the large shelters, as well as 2 corn hole courts. As I mentioned there is small playground near the front of the park that has a medium sized jungle gym with slides and a swing set toddler and traditional swings. The other playground area located on the opposite side of Mount Trashmore is amazing. It is called Boardwalk Kids Cove Playground and spans 26,000 miles. It was built in 2010 and is in great shape. It consists of 3 distinct play areas built on a rubber surface. The first area is a giant jungle gym with a bunch of slides, elevated walkways, and climbers. It is awesome. Another area consists of traditional and toddler swings, in addition to a one-of-a-kind wheelchair swing. The third area is where you will find a variety of climbing structures. Kids Cove is complete with benches and picnic shelters that parents or caretakers can sit and watch their littles play. The area is fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and has a well needed restroom facility there. One last amenity that I would like to note is the park's skate park. It is a nice place to shred and could easily be a stand alone park. The park is approximately 24,000 square feet and welcomes skateboarders, inline skaters, and BMX bikers. Some of its equipment includes a two-level half-pipe of 5' and 6' heights and an attached quarter pipe a 5' spine, a 2.5' rollover with grind rails, and a variety of arced and straight grind rails and boxes. There is also a vert ramp located just outside the park. It is 13.5 feet tall and 40 feet wide, but was closed for extended maintenance while I was there. This is an awesome park and I spent a good half of a beautiful day here. It is a must see and is the ultimate destination park. There is something for everyone here. They have concessions (seasonal), restroom facilities, playgrounds, a lake, picnic area, workout structures and you can even rent equipment like badminton rackets, corn hole bags, footballs, frisbees, horseshoes, rubber playground balls, soccer balls, volleyballs, and wheelchairs from the park's office, for free with your driver's license or other form of government issued ID.

Go fly a kite? Yes please! And this is your place!!!!! I have many fond memories of MT. Mom and I flew kites there and had an absolute blast! I attended at least one, maybe two versions of the annual X Games sporting events here which was super fun, also! As others have mentioned it's a great place to walk, or if you're super energetic, run the steps. Covered pavilions, clean restrooms, ample parking, and family friendly vibe make this a really nice park!
