My husband and I stopped by for a casual date night at Mommy Mom and I'm so glad we did. We hadn't had Burmese food in Hampton Roads before so we had to try their noodle dishes. I ordered the N1 Chicken Noodle soup and husband ordered the N3 Coconut Chicken Noodle soup. Both were fabulous. The N1 was so flavorful, with shredded curry chicken and a rich clear chicken broth with rice noodles. The N3 had a rich texture from the coconut and sliced egg, and my husband liked the thick noodles. We also got the shrimp tempura which was crispy and delicious. The service was quick and polite--you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. I liked the simple and colorful Vietnamese and Burmese decor. We will definitely be back!

Sophia and I drove from the Peninsula through the rain (surprisingly smooth) to check this spot out, which opened up last year. The type of dishes they serve are Burmese food, which I never tried before. Would my first try be a home run or a strikeout?Walking inside, you can tell it was very chilled and laid back. They have a few tables and the decor is really nice. Very intimate for yours truly. Once we got settled, it was time for ordering. For apps, we had fresh shrimp spring rolls. Very good and full of ingredients. The peanut butter sauce was really creamy. A great condiment to the rolls indeed. The icing on the cake....Shan Khow Swae, which is their Burmese chicken noodle soup. It was absolutely delicious. Curry chicken in chicken broth topped with crushed peanuts....this was made with a lot of love. This came in handy on a rainy Winter day like yesterday. You know what I'm gonna say next: this will be a repeat. A wonderful visit all around. Till next time :)

I've visited Mommy Mom twice since they opened in February 2023 (3/14/23 & 10/2/23). Both visits were pleasant and I found the food to be excellent.Mommy Mom took over Miss Saigon. They are an Asian fusion restaurant, but they offer Burmese dishes. I was excited to try them out because I've never had Burmese cuisine. I'd like to believe Mommy Mom may be the first Burmese restaurant in Hampton Roads, but I can't be sure. At the least, this is, for me, the first time I've come across a Burmese restaurant locally. During my first visit I ordered the following: spring rolls for an appetizer; and for my entree, Kyae Oh (Pork Noodle Soup), which is a noodle soup with vermicelli noodles, quail eggs, tofu, pork meatballs, mustard green in a clear pork broth. The spring rolls were a safe option, but nonetheless excellent, as I've had them at other Asian-oriented restaurants. The Kyae Oh looked appeasing on the menu and tasted fantastic (it kind of reminded me of the Philippines' sinigang) when it arrived at my table. Both items arrived quickly upon ordering and my server (who was also Mommy Mom's owner/operator) was kind, gracious and was always smiling. I enjoyed my initial visit and decided to return as soon as possible. Sadly, though, I didn't get around to returning until October, but I still enjoyed a fantastic meal and excellent service from the same owner. During my October visit I had fried dumplings as an appetizer and followed that up with Ohn Noh Khow swae (Coconut Noodle), which are egg noodles in a chicken curry & coconut milk soup base and boiled egg. The dumplings were excellent - fried perfectly and had a great crunch. The Ohn Noh Khow was excellent, too. Considering it was my first time trying this entree, I didn't know how it was supposed to taste, but I enjoyed the combination of curry and coconut milk. The egg noodles meshed well with the soup base and the chicken was tasty and tender. The only thing I noticed is that the Ohn Noh Khow seemed to be a lighter portion than the Kyae Oh I had a few months earlier. I hope that Mommy Mom wasn't already forced to cut back portion size. After two visits, I feel Mommy Mom is a fantastic place. Their facility is clean and organized, its owner is kind, polite and helpful, and he can obviously cook good food. I enjoy Burmese cuisine because of this and look forward to many future visits! Thank you, Mommy Mom! JV

Was in search of an Asian restaurant with vegetarian options and a variety of choices to please a group. We hit gold! The vermicelli noodle dish, fried rice, and garlic noodles were all delicious. The Boba was good too, the pearls are made fresh every day!! Next time I will definitely try some more of the Burmese cuisine. The owner was really kind and super on top of service. Seems like he's running the whole operation by himself. I wish I lived closer to support this awesome restaurant!

Mommy Mom is a new Asian fusion and noodle restaurant whose cuisine provides a special emphasis upon Burmese and Vietnamese dishes. It opened up in February of this year in the same strip mall on Shore Drive where Misako is located, taking over the spot previously occupied by Miss Saigon Sandwiches & Noodles. The owner is reportedly from Burma, which is now officially called the Republic Of The Union Of Myanmar. It is the largest country by area in the mainland of Southeast Asia and is bordered by Laos and Thailand to its East and Southeast. To the best of my knowledge, this is the first restaurant in our area that has offered the Burmese dishes listed on their menu. The Burmese dishes I tried here gave me some new and first time culinary experiences. The interior has been given an attractive new face lift. A new paint job adorns the walls. Hand painted parasols dot their ceiling. The interior sparkles with cleanliness. Each table comes equipped with a tray of condiments that includes Hot Chili Oil, Hoisin Sauce, and Sriracha Sauce. Real chopsticks and Asian soup spoons are also included. After three lunch time visits, I have tried the following dishes:KYOH OH: PORK NOODLE SOUP: A Popular Burmese Noodle Soup consisting of Vermicelli Noodles, Quail Eggs, Tofu, Pork Meat Balls, and Mustard Greens in a Clear Pork Broth. The flavors of the pork meat balls, tofu, quail eggs, and pork meat balls came through nicely. The broth struck me as a bit bland at first, but its depth of flavor picked up a but as I slurped down closer to its finish. I would have liked a few more noodles and would have also preferred Bok Choy instead of mustard greens. In any event, I would be willing to try this one again. My Rating: 3.5 Stars.MOHINGA: LEMONGRASS FISH NOODLE SOUP: The menu description of this one was brief and described as a Fish Based Lemongrass Soup prepared with Rice Noodles and topped with Boiled Eggs. It was further described as the National Dish of Burma.I read up a bit more on this dish and learned that it is a traditional Burmese all day breakfast street food that is served in a form of a thick stew and is available in a variety of different recipes. The texture of the soup reminded me a bit of Congee. It delivered an enjoyable depth of flavor with some traces of turmeric that gave it a nice golden glow. I was craving a stronger presence of the lemongrass. After I finished, I asked the owner what type of fish was used in this dish. His answer was Swai, which is a species of catfish that is native to the rivers of Southeast Asia. Although I would have preferred a locally sourced fish, I read that catfish is traditionally used for this dish in Burma, which adds to the authenticity of the version served here. This is another dish that I would try again. My Rating: 4 Stars.BURMESE TEA LEAF SALAD: Fermented Tea Leaf, Tomato, Cabbage, Jalapeno, Sesame Seeds, Nuts, and Lime Juice. This is regarded as the most popular salad in Burma. The salad delivered a clean and refreshing taste. The fermented tea leaves and other veggies delivered a unique and pleasant taste combination with a texture that contrasted well with the crunch of the nuts and sesame seeds. The citrusy notes from the lime juice added moisture and extra flavor.Overall, this salad delivered an excellent balance of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors, and I honestly do not know how I would go about improving this one. My Rating: 5 Stars.SPRING ROLLS: These came with two plump pieces filled with shrimp, pork slices, lettuce, and rice vermicelli in fresh rice paper coverings and were served with a peanut dipping sauce.I enjoyed the taste and texture of the spring rolls. The peanut sauce delivered a nice enough flavor, although I would have liked a lighter texture with some more hoisin sauce mixed in for additional umami flavor, topped with a sprinkle of chopped peanuts. My Rating: 4.5 Stars. SPICY CHICKEN PHO NOODLE SOUP: Chicken Pho (Pho Ga) is one of my favorite Vietnamese soups, and the version served here was most satisfying. The rice noodles were abundant, and the chicken broth delivered a nice depth of flavor. Its spice level made my hot tooth happy, and I added some chili oil for a little extra heat. My Rating: 5 Stars. The owner who served me was as nice as he could be during my visits. When he wasn't serving a customer, he frequently kept busy cleaning the interior. My overall rating comes out to a strong 4-star rating at this time. I would like to try a few more of their Burmese dishes before I decide upon an upgrade to a full 5 stars.I will pass on their selection of Bahn Mi sandwiches, as they are served with mayonnaise, a condiment that has never agreed with me. I prefer a blend of butter and pate as a spread for my Bahn Mi sandwiches. In the meantime, I am happy so far with this new addition to our Asian restaurant scene and look forward to some future visits whenever I am in the area.

Miss Saigon is now under new management and is now Mommy Mom. They're closed Sundays and are open 11am to 8pm Monday-Saturday. For to-go, I ordered the garlic noodles which were reminiscent of the packaged ramen mi goreng but with lots of garlic which I love. I wish them luck on the new opening!

Stopped in for dinner and we enjoyed our visit. This place has menu items from Burma which was a first for me. It seemed to be a one man show where one person was hosting, waitressing and preparing meals; however he managed to provide good service. The food itself was of good quality, flavorful and tasty; nothing was burnt or undercooked, and the drinks were made well.

Food was decent! I wish our waters would have came out earlier but we got a decent portion size. I wanted to try the corn soup but I think that one was sold out so I opted for the veggie rice noodle soup instead. I would have preferred it to be spicier but it was alright.

We passed by VA Beach and found this little restaurant, it's run by a Burmese family, they serve pho, and some other Asian fusion stuff, I went for Burmese food, fish noodle soup, it does taste authentic, just as it does in Burma, a bit to salty for our taste, I had mentioned to the owner and made a mental note to mention it next time when ordering, other than that, food was awesome and servers were friendly.
