We had the best experience when we popped in on Father's Day for a family photo! Courtney is so good at expediting the process, while still achieving the perfect costumes and poses...plus she was truly amazing with our baby and toddler! The rest of the staff helped out and were very friendly, and they kept our little ones occupied and happy. We intended on getting one good group shot but we unexpectedly left with an awesome couples shot and also one of just the kiddos. We were in and out in roughly half an hour with three prints we were really happy with for just $49. I was nervous the experience would feel really corny and be hectic with the kids (photographing our toddlers is hard enough in a normal setting) but it was actually a pleasant and fun experience, and I'm so glad we did it! We'll definitely return next time we have family in town for a keepsake and some laughs...Added bonus: they offered us a military discount!

We walked in with part of an idea and Courtney knew exactly where we were headed. We trusted her expertise and she gave us the perfect execution of the vision. Joseph was excellent with every customer in the store while still giving particular attention to choose the right photo of the great series Courtney shot. The experience was quick, fun and we couldn't have asked for a better first time with period photos. Highly recommended, but don't take my word for it!!! Let the photo speak for itself.

Out on the boardwalk with a very close friend and we see this place. She says she's never done this and wished she had done it when she was younger, so I said let's do it! Blah blah blah, excuses excuses and I'm dragging her across the street and we're in the store front checking bag out the samples. We were approached quickly and all our questions answered in short order and next thing we know, we're in the back getting dressed and bows are tied, jewelry is on and she gets a fan and I get a gun! We had a riot doing this and I'm really glad we did. The people working here are super friendly, know what they're doing, take great pictures and make this an absolutely fun experience. They are sales people so they will offer you some packages but they aren't pushy about it. Feel free to say no thank you!If you're in Virginia Beach, go do this. A picture is worth a thousand words and this is a memory of the time spent with my friend that I will get to relive every time I look at the photos.

Old Time Photos is one of Virginia Beach's few cultural treasures and is a must-visit location for anyone passing through. While the photos themselves are somewhat expensive, the end product is consistently excellent and the actual experience of dressing up for the photos is unforgettable. Unfortunately, some small problems with their service mar what would otherwise be a perfect kitschy experience. I recently took a trip down Memory Lane with a group of 5. We wanted to do a sort of "action scene", which we eventually did, but not after having to convince the "photographers" that this was a good idea. This wasn't too shocking, but what was surprising was the horrible attitude of our "assistant photographer", who was frankly quite obnoxious and just shy of directly insulting. She was physically pushy (she managed to actually hurt one of us) and was constantly making adjustments to the scene without consulting with the actual photographer. In fact, while she was dressing one of the ladies, she actually called the main photographer, Liz, "a bitch". This is a shame, too, because Liz was a sweetheart who handled herself fantastically. We would have tipped her handsomely but we were concerned that some of that tip might go to her horrible assistant. Another minor complaint: considering the prices they charge here, they might consider using better cameras. The images DO look good, but they would probably look better with better cameras. One last thing: we would have loved an option to buy the actual files from them. This would at least save us the time spent scanning the images.Aside from our rough experience with an employee who'se probably been fired by now, we did have a great time at Memory Lane and I would strongly recommend anyone who reads this review to give it a shot.

Amazing!!! The staff were exceptionally friendly and dressed us exactly as we wanted. The pictures came out amazing! The photographer explained the base price before we even started and helped pose us for the best angling as well as most authentic look. He explained the price differences and coloring options without being pushy as well as showed us a frame option without going to the most expensive one or pushing it on us. Fun experience and we will be back to try out other photo options!

Absolutely disgraceful display of unprofessionalism. I called at 1pm to verify this business would be open at 5pm and offered to make a reservation because I had a group of 10 people. The staff confirmed they would be open and that a reservation wouldn't be necessary, in fact they informed me they will close at 8pm at the earliest. Many people in my group travelled over 30 minutes to arrive at Memory Lane only to find it closed. This was unfortunately the last opportunity for my group to be available for a photo due to several families leaving the area on military orders. So I hope you're happy for ruining a beautifully planned evening. Memory Lane should be ashamed and the manger should resign.I have never experienced such disregard for human decency. I am considering opening my own Old Time Photos shop in the area to compete against Memory Lane not just out of spite but if this is how the owner manages their business, they surely couldn't handle a competitor that respects their customers and keeps their word.If I could give negative stars, I would.Memory Lane makes me sick.Memory Lane is anti American and hates the militaryCongratulations on losing my business.

There are no words for how rude these people are. Really. We made a reservation to recreate a picture from when our kids were small for the one day that all the kids were going to be in town. We got there and showed them the photo we wanted to recreate. They took my daughter and I back to get Southern belle costumes. I asked if my daughter and I could switch dresses with each other to more closely match light/dark dresses from the photo. The woman said No because of sizes. We wear the same size and the dresses tie in the back. Then she finally actually looked at the photo and said we were Victorian and not Southern Belles. Irritated. Btw another employee was the one who said the dresses in the photo were Southern belle not us. Then we went to where the males were costuming. I asked if they had bandanas and we got a very short "yes" and then the guy helping us said "ok honey, why don't you put that phone away." And basically said they were going to capture the spirit of the first photo in a very dismissive way and didn't need my input. I said actually I wanted to recreate the photo as closely as possible and that I was the one paying for the service and that I work too hard for my money to not be heard and my wishes honored. At that point the woman who wouldn't let my daughter and I switch dresses said "are you going to get a picture or not" in a really ugly manner. I said I guess not and she said "I don't have to do this tor $60 anyway" and stalked off. I don't call names but if I did it would begin with a B. I am sorry she was having a bad day but I won't pay for someone else to have a bad day. The guy tried to apologize for her. The fact is there was nothing I was requesting that couldn't have been accommodated. There was no issue in my daughter and I switching dresses. There was no issue in trying to match the outfits closely. The costumes were there. But it was an issue of "do the pictures their way or the Highway". Really. They said they were willing to recreate the photo when we booked the photo. But it was obvious there would be NO accommodation or discussion. We left because the purpose was to recreate ur original photo. They weren't willing to do so. In fact the original photo was in front of a bar. They had that backdrop. However they weren't going to place us there. They put us in a parlor backdrop. There weren't any other groups immediately waiting. There were plenty of employees available to assist others. So it wasn't an issue that we were taking up time. Even if we were it would have taken less than 1 minute to look at the photo and try to pick clothing to match. They were totally unwilling to do this. I still don't know if we will get a refund for our deposit we placed when making the appointment. But I do not recommend this business nor do I think these employees should be working there. I have never been to a business that treated me so badly. Never.

Amy and Daegan were absolutely phenomenal when interacting with my three and one year old. When we walked in we were greeted by a friendly cowboy who we later learned was named Daegan. He was very informative when telling us how the photo shoot would go and what options we would have as far as prints go. Soon after, the photographer, Amy, came to the front of the store and greeted us with great energy as well. I had been looking forward to taking old timey pictures ever since we passed the shop a year prior, but we didn't have our kids with us so we decided to wait until we visited Virginia Beach again. I was a bit nervous this time, as my oldest son has autism and sometimes has a hard time in new places and with new people. Well this was one of those hard times. He started crying before I got changed into my costume but Amy was so accommodating the entire time, even when he made it clear that he didn't want anything to do with anybody else. Daegan also stepped in to help when my husband and I were taking a photo with just the two of us, and he entertained my two children until we got the pictures captured. I appreciate them so much for their patience and professionalism.
