A great location and easy to miss on the main OBX road, fantastic guest service, seems to be a local hangout. Good place to have a beer & watch a game. Had the Irish Burger and hot dog, good sauce flavor on both. Asked for medium well & was well, the branded bun looks burnt but is not, very good. Fries are great. I would come back to have a drink & watch a game. 4 stars for the service!

Open mic night at McGrath's. First time visit as a friend accompanied some of the musicians on his alto sax.Staff very friendly as were the customers. While listening to the music, I just had to order something. Started with a a smooth Mother Earth IPA and then their BLT Hot Dog with what turned out to be a bountiful side of fries with ranch dipping sauce for just two bucks more. The food was decent. IPA great. And I ordered Root Beer after I finished the IPA. For pub grub in a decent place, this is your place. It ain't zagat or Michelin, but it is good beach fare.

I visited on a rainy afternoon. I'd never been here before and I don't think I'll return. I had the Irish burger ($16.75)with fries but saw that they had an appetizer fry dish that was just the fries with a Parmesan garlic dipping sauce. I asked if I could just get the dipping sauce with my fries. When I got my check, there was a $4 charge for the sauce; I was upset that I wasn't told there would be a charge for it and doubly upset because the whole appetizer would have been $6! It was just a tiny cup (maybe 2Tablespoons) of sauce. The burger was pretty good, but nothing special. I ate about half. The fries were good and I did enjoy the sauce. I finished the fries off as they were the best part of my meal. That's all I got for about $25 with tax/tip. Terrible value. The service was good other than not telling me about the charge; my water was kept filled which is good since I was thirsty after beach-ing. The restaurant was dark and cool and fairly quiet. I had a big issue with the grease on the floor though. As I said, it was raining when we went in. There's a large mat at the door but the second I stepped onto the tile, I almost fell because the floor has a layer of grease on it. It was difficult to navigate as I stood at the register at the front trying to pay for my overpriced meal.

I read the reviews and most of them were like "it's good, nothing amazing," I would agree with that. I got a bacon cheese burger and it was ok. I don't feel the burger was fresh meat. Kind of disappointing when you're going to a "burger shack." The fries were very good. I also got mozzarella sticks. They were BIG and pretty tasty, but didn't come with marinara. Would I go back, yes. Would it be my first choice, no.

McGrath's moved into the location formerly occupied by Darrel's 2 a couple of years ago. We kind of limit our burger consumption to Art's Place in Kitty Hawk when we are here, but decided to try McGrath's since we were down in Nags Head.We had a couple of very good burgers. Ms T had the Irish Whisky Burger (no onion, of course) and I had the Jalapeno Heat Burger. She does not like rare or even pinkness in her beef, and the cook got it right without drying it out. Mine ordered medium, was perfect. It was super juicy and tender. They do not use compressed hockey puck patties here. I loved that they grilled fresh jalapenos for these, along with the onions. Our only wish was for some salt and pepper on the beef. The burgers are on a par with Art's but are a totally different treatment in terms of toppings. At Art's you get more North Carolina styles like Pimento Cheese or Chili. At McGraths it is a different palette, so pick your place. McGrath's may be easier to find a table. You will get a great burger at either place. We wanted to substitute slaw for the fries, but learned it has onion. We are eating raw-onion-free so stuck with the steak fries. They were also good; in fact they were better than we have been getting recently. I am always a little leery of steak fries, since they are larger and often don't get cooked right and can be grainy. These were creamy smooth and very good.I have read reviews about poor or rude service at McGraths. That was certainly not our experience. Our server could not have been nicer or more attentive. This was a very enjoyable meal. We don't eat a lot of these half-pound burgers (in fact, we each brought half home) but when we do, I can see splitting the enjoyment between Art's and McGrath's. McGrath's is apparently a sister of another location in Chesapeake.

We have been here twice and both times our food was fantastic. This time we tried the Reuben peirogies that were AMAZING!! If you like corned beef and sauerkraut, you've got to try these!! My husband had a Buffalo Irishman chicken sando with garlic Parmesan fried and I had the Irish burger. Fries are super tasty and the fry dip is delicious. The owner was our server and he was very friendly and really seemed like he enjoyed that we liked the food. We will be back the next time we want a good burger!

This place is great. Fresh Grass fed local beef and only $3 for a beer. I had the Irish Whiskey Burger and it was amazing. The Jameson BBQ Sauce and hand cut steak fries, the dipping sauce for the fries was also fantastic. I will be there all the time I'm glad I found this place

Go here! Best juicy and flavorful burger I've had for at least ten years. Friendly and personable service. Relaxing atmosphere. (Also they are open on Sundays, despite Google info)

The food is amazing. I had the Buffalo Irishman and it was hands down the best chicken sandwich I have ever had. So good we had to go back a second time before our trip was over. Staff is very polite and offer a curbside option with online order as well!!! 12/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a good burger/chicken sandwich

From the time we got here to the time we left, the waitress/Service has been amazing. The food was great/tasty and flavorful. We definitely will return to McGrath's when we return to the beach for the yummy/tasteful experience.
