Food brought me back to the Philippines - just like the Max's Restaurant I used to go at 1or 2am on Roxas Blvd. There's that flavor that pleases my taste buds and fills my belly with joy!The servers made my presence even valuable being there and they didn't disappoint with the service and recommendations for our party of nine. Maraming Salamat, po!

What happened to the customer service and ambiance of this place??? Came back here after a few months and it went downhill fast. They have so many servers but zero customer service. Where are the jolly, pleasing kuyas when it first opened? The servers now do not even know how to greet and say thank you.The ambiance was so lonely when we went. We were the first customers at 11:30AM and even before we left not many customers were there. Everyone looked gloomy despite of all the delicious foods we were craving for. Maybe if they improve the vibe of the restaurant by playing filipino music then the nostalgia of being home away from home will be revived. Maybe if they train their staff to smile more and be more engaging then the customers will be satisfied.I was so happy that finally there's a Filipino restaurant that we can bring our guests and family from afar but at this point, Renee's is soo,, soo much better. From the ambiance to customer service and of course the foods.

We went here to ight for dinner. We just ate like there's no tomorrow. Some were good, some were not.The server was not paying attention when we were twlling her our concerns because the sizzling crispy pork sisig should be sizzling and should be crispy. Both of them werw not present with what we ordered. It's a shame that she just worked there and don't care how we feel about the food. The pakbet was salty. Too much shrimp paste even though shrimp paste is banned in the US. The sago-gumalam was so sweet and no flavoring. We loved the fries chicken because it was tender and juicy. Daing na bangus was also good. Maybe bec we can't cook such at home. Halo-halo was great for $10.

The lumpia was very soggy and wet ,so we could not eat it. We threw it all away. The sinigang had the lid off when we got it so the bag was wet. We could not have half because it spilled. My mom called the restaurant and the said they could not help us.Written by a VERY disappointed 10 year old.

Now that the hype has passed, it was time to check it Max's Restaurant. I've had some of the menu items offered at Max's fried chicken while on travel in Manila but there was something that was not in tune at this location. So.. I ordered the boneless bangus, pancit canton, chicharon bulaklak, fresh lumpia (ubod), Steamed rice, and halo-halo.Let's break it down - the pancit canton was a bit dry even after mixing it to elevate what sauce was in the bottom of the plate. Kinda hard to make out the taste of all the ingredients mixed in teh pancit but for sure, there was an over whelming taste of MSG. Maybe from use of the magic sarap, so this item was a complete 'to go'. Didn't want to waste it. The chicharon bulaklak - so if your looking for something crispy and full of cholesterol, this is the menu. Deep fried small intestines. Just a couple of the crispies and it was "to go' as well. The boneless bangus - crispy and as advertised - boneless. Went well with the provided dipping vinegar. The small amount of atsara was not for me, a bit too sour. The steamed rice could be considered Jasmine but there was something about this rice that just did not resonate. well. Maybe if i ordered a menu item that can mask the consistency of the rice, it would have been fine. The fresh lumpia or ubod was fine. Served with a generous amount of garlic sauce that's littered with chopped peanuts. Not the typical fresh lumpia since this is just diced bamboo shoots over romaine lettuce, wrapped in a wrapper similar to unsweetened crepe. This one was finished. I like garlic so no issue with the mass amounts of garlic in the sauce. Last but not least, the dessert of halo-halo hit the spot. Better tasting than the other halo-halo served at other Filipino restaurants in VA Beach. It sure cleaned out taste of garlic from the ubod. The variety of sweet bits (sangkap) really placed a want to come back for more.Service is quick and ambiance is similar to the decors of Max's in Manila or Cebu except for chairs on top of tables that are not occupied. Something about having chairs on a table while the restaurant is open.If you're in the mood for chain Filipino meal, this is one of the spots to go to. Just not for me. Halo-halo - Yes, main meal - No.

We visited this place for a taste of the Philippines. The service was excellent and the ambience was okay, but the food fell a bit short. The pancit canton was too salty, and the kare-kare seemed watered down and lacked the expected peanuty taste. On the other hand, the chicaron bulaklak was crunchy and delicious. The Halo-Halo was decent and better than most places in VA Beach. It seems like this place is still working on perfecting their menu. Overall, it was an okay experience, and I plan to return in a few months to give it another try and provide another review.

The first Max's restaurant from the Philippines to open in the DMV area. The food was decently priced for the portions provided, the Crispy Pata for example was huge. The famous "Max's Fried Chicken" was also very good. The Pork BBQ Skwers also surprised me as to how good it was, it was longer than a regular BBQ stick and it came with 4. I also thought it was funny that they have a specific Togo box that fits the BBQ stick, so don't worry if you need to take it home. I ordered an assortment of food and all came out good and everything tasted great. I'm sure the past reviews here were from when they first opened so they were probably very busy. I came in on a Wednesday afternoon and it was not busy at all for dine-in. For the amount of food we ordered it all came out in less than 20 minutes so the wait was not bad at all. I can't say how it is on the weekends. The service was great as well as the servers were very friendly. The ambiance was nice as well as it wasn't too busy, the restaurant is very clean on the inside. I would definitely recommend this place and I will be coming back.

Our second time to eat here and I want to see if we can duplicate or maybe make our experience much better. First, I want to say how clean and streamlined this place and well designed this place that's so pleasant to the eyes. The waitresses and waiters are so nice and charming with their Filipino uniforms. Now to the point, the food. Just look at the delightful pictures. It all look so good you will salivate. Every one of these pictures of food are memory triggers of the delicious memories I got as a kid eating these kind of food with the family. Yes, they taste so good! Love each of them. Definitely coming back. Oh, did I tell you about the halo halo and the Buko pandan? Heavenly.

This is a restaurant chain from the Philippines thats close to a lot of Filipino hearts. The Food as usual was on point with the seasoning. But the service could use some improvement I waited for my food to come out at least 20 minutes and another 20 minutes to close my check out. The restaurant operates with not a lot of servers. Other than that make sure you have time allotted for the slow service. I gave 4 stars for the food. Not the serviceTry some of your favorite Filipino favorites but the chicken is tasty!
