Matt's Smackin Macs

A local tv station advertised Matt's Smackin Mac a while back and it's been on my list to try for a while. Upon entry I was quickly greeted by a cashier who took my order. They recommended I add the ranch to the chicken bacon parm mac. It was a solid addition. The inside of the place looks well... rough but I've never let the way a place looks affect my rating. All focus was on the food and it was worth it. I had the regular size bowl and only ate half and took the rest home. If you're in the area, absolutely swing by and give these guys a visit.

So I found this place through yelp reviews and they did not lie:The outside looks like a run down ex hot dog stand. It looks like it would be gross. It looks... Not great.But the inside is clean, the service is great, and the void was so yummy! There are blue stars on the menu next to popular dishes and my chicken and bacon mac and cheese was delish! Would definitely recommend!

I took my grandson to Matt's this weekend. It was absolutely some of the most flavorful, creamy mac and cheese ever! I had By the Bay Shrimp Mac and Cheese.. great amount of spice and plump shrimp. My grandson had Hot Honey Chicken Mac and Cheese and he devoured it! You can get a personal size of 16oz or a double serving to share. Lots of options including macaroni or shells. If you want, you can totally customize and create your own signature mac and cheese.Great beverage options as well. Service was great and fast! You can order online or stop inside and have a seat. The atmosphere is chill.Don't sleep on the yellow A-frame! It's hiding some of the greatest Mac and cheese around!

I came here on a whim with my god daughter. It's not in the greatest location and it's kind of run-down looking. Inside isn't any better. BUT, ohmigawd the food!!! I had the pesto mac and cheese with bacon (!), my god daughter had chicken bacon parmesan mac and cheese, and we took home regular mac and cheese for my son. Everything was freshly and perfectly prepared and served piping hot. The portions were large too. The marriage of flavors was unique, inspired, creative, and absolutely fantastic! In fact, the food was so good, on our drive home, we didn't even talk like we normally do. We were both caught in silent rapture of delicious food!It's walk-up service but the young man behind the counter was friendly, gave honest recommendations, and took good care of us and the steady stream of customers. I was stunned at how busy they were...until I tried the food and then it was obvious why they're so busy. Even the location and ambiance don't keep people away.The only reason I didn't give five stars is because of the location and how run-down the place is. But, we are already planning a return. I hope they are HUGELY successful and can expand. I'd love to see this become a chain. It's certainly good enough. We will definitely be back, and often!

Last weekend, Sophia and I stayed here in the Peninsula to check out a place that's been around for a year. They're located in a building that's been occupied by several operations in the past. Matt's been so popular by locals they were given the spotlight via Channel 13 as part of their Friday Flavor segment. So you know we had to give them a try and see for ourselves.Both of us ordered via their website. 15 minutes later, our orders were ready. Inside, it's small with a few tables if you wanted to dine-in. But it's mainly for takeout. Matt greeted us behind the counter and handed us our food bagged and ready. I selected the white cheddar trio mac and cheese with bacon and green and crispy onions added. It was delicious!! The parmesean cheese blend definitely made it creamy and flavor was through and through. And you can never go wrong with bacon, which was plenty. Buried underneath were the onions, which were just enough. A very good 1st visit to a hidden gem. Definitely deserving of the attention. You know we'll definitely be back. Till next time:)

This place is awesome. Have been wanting to try it for quite sometime but being on the Virginia Beach side of the tunnel and don't like tunnels it took me coming back from dc to try it. Drove by, wasn't sure if was open, called and they were. Walked in with my dog and assuming it was Matt, was friendly and helpful in making suggestions. Went with his choice of pesto and added bacon. When I got home and finally ate it. Damn, it was amazing. I ate half and saved the rest for dinner. It was a hefty portion. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area or passing thru. Don't let the tunnel discourage you cause it won't disappoint.

Matt's smackin macs is located in Newport News off Warwick blvd, if you blink you'll miss it! We arrived around 10:45 (15 mins before opening & waited). We thought the restaurant was very quirky & loved how different it was. Once inside there was a small dining area and the counter where you order. The employees were very kind and patient as we stumbled through what we wanted. (Pulled pork Mac has been taken off the menu - *insert cry emoji* The Mac n cheese wasn't bad, the chicken had a weird texture to it, but tasted good. I think it is a little over priced, but as is anything that's unique of its kind. All in all, a pretty good little shop & I enjoyed the vibes.

Great, unique spot! You can't find anything like it in the area and they make some seriously great mac and cheese. I tried quite a few of their options, however liked their basic white cheese trio mac the best! Just a really great, solid mac. I will definitely be back to purchase that for sides at holidays!

AYE - YO! If you happen to be in the Newport News area. Please go stop by this hidden gem. Tucked away on Warwick Blvd, this tiny yellow building will be seeing me again. Their menu has a lot of options for you to customize your chicken Mac bowl, as well as plenty pre-picked options. I went with the buffalo chicken Mac bowl and my boyfriend got the bbq chicken Mac bowl with jalapeño and red pepper flakes. The guy who took our order was very nice and attentive. I thought it was sweet that he included an extra bowl in our bag so that we could sample each other's order. He also brought the food out to us while we were waiting outside. For both bowls, we rated it an 8/10. ONLY BECAUSE, we felt like the mac n cheese itself could've used a little more seasoning. But do not get me wrong, the chicken was delicious!Definitely will be coming back to try out some more options, even customize my own bowl. Parking is on either side of the building, but there's only one entrance on the left side of the building. The middle window is not used for ordering or picking up food.

Don't be fooled by the appearance!The place looks a bit run down, but it's obvious that all of the effort is put into the food. I like things a bit spicy, so I merged their Jalapeño Bacon and Buffalo Chicken Mac into a build your own mac. It was exactly what I was hoping for, and extremely filling! Service was friendly and quick considering it was made to order. I could see Matt going to town in the back.
