My goal was to find a place to take my mom for tea. After some research on IG/FB and Eventbrite I stumbled upon Main Street Tea House in Elizabeth City NC. They had a Mother's Day event advertised for $35 per person. This would be their final event for the season as they will be closed till fall to operate as an Air BnB. I called on the phone to make reservations, and it was quick and easy. The woman who helped me over the phone was super polite and upbeat. She ended our conversation with have a "tea of a day". I thought that was the sweetest. My mom and I arrived after a 1hr drive from the Virginia Beach area, dressed for tea complete with our fascinators (fabulous fancy tea hat). This house is an amazing site from the outside and even better on the inside. It had brick stairs leading to the entry and a wide front porch. We entered the Tea House and gasped and how beautifully decorated the inside was. To the left of us was what appeared to be the living room area of the house with a fireplace. To the right of us was another room dining room sized. Both rooms were brightly decorated with 5 tables in one room and 5-6 in the other room. Each table complete with tea settings, plates and gold plated silverware. My mom and I gasped and said at the same time how pretty everything was. After composing ourselves we went to the hostess who checked us in and took a photo of us in the foyer. We were seated at our table, there we met Alyssa our "tea-tress". This lady was the sweetest person ever. She was so pretty in her tea party appropriate clothes, complete with a tiara, like the rest of the staff. Alyssa explained everything to us, and talked to us like she knew us forever. "Our choice" of tea was included from a menu, and a classic three-tiered tray (curate) which had from the bottom up, cucumber, egg salad, and pimento cheese sandwiches on the bottom, scones in the middle, and petit fours, macarons, madeleines, and chocolate truffles from "The Bomb, Hot Cocoa Bombs & Treats" on the top tier. After giving us a quick education on the tea selection Alyssa recommended for us to start with the warm scones in the middle, that came with lemon curd & blueberry toppings which were absolutely amazing and flavorful. From there my mom and I ventured to the bottom tier for the sandwiches. I particularly enjoyed the fact that although these were cold sandwiches they weren't ice cold, as I have sensitive teeth. The cucumber sandwich was my favorite, the pimento cheese was my second favorite. The smokiness of the cheese was a delicious undertone. I settled on the lady lavender tea with curdled cream as advised by Alyssa. My mother chose the cinnamon spice decaffeinated tea with cream. They both arrived in a healthy sized personal tea pot. My mother mentioned that her tea needed no additional sweetener and that it was perfect. I decided for 2 cubes of sugar which was available at the table. We thoroughly enjoyed the tea, scones, sandwiches, and desserts. One of the best additions was a mimosa option served in a tea cup with a strawberry seated on the rim of the cup. A pleasant surprise was being satisfied from the variety of items available on the curate. We needed no extra food at all. We were even given some butter mints as a gift for having this experience at The Maine Street Tea House. We wrapped up our Mother's Day tea, and explored a tiny bit and got to learn about the house itself. I loved the photo in the foyer of the fireplace room, before the tea house was decorated and officially in business. We also enjoyed the hat wall leading to the restroom in the hallway where customers could try on hats and wear them as they enjoyed their tea time. I can't wait to come back in the fall with my daughter. Thank you Maine Street Teahouse & Alyssa for making my Mother's Day memorable with my mother.

This was a perfect way to spend a chilly day during the holiday season! The sweet treats we had were a very yummy cream puff, a layered cake with a wonderful filling/frosting, a truffle (the chocolate was a slight bit thick) a rosemary raspberry thumbprint cookie (I'd buy these by the pound) the scone was served warm and was very tender. It was accompanied by whipped butter, pear & raspberry jams. There were 2 finger sandwiches - pimento cheese & something else I can't remember since I was so focused on the sweets! There was also a very tasty little cucumber round that was my favorite thing on the bottom tier of our 3 tiered serving tray. The tea I chose was a chai and my friend had a lavender tea which were served in generous pots. We were so glad we came during the Christmas season as the decor was just beautiful. The hat wall was an interesting idea and something I'm sure my granddaughter will enjoy when I bring her for a visit. All in all it was an enjoyable experience. Enjoy!

What a fun place to have in Elizabeth City! I recently hosted an etiquette tea here for about 12 kids + 5 adults. The room we were in was spacious and the tables were set beautifully. The owner was great to work with beforehand while planning and also during the event itself. I appreciate her willingness to customize her menu offerings to please both the children and the adult guests. I would definitely host something here again and also look forward to attending just for fun during her normal tea season!
