Lovell's Place

Gaaaaa-rrrrrross! You might catch something worse than Covid here! It was a pretty nasty joint. A party spot with a rowdy crowd having fun, but extremely dirty. We literally meant to go next door to the Mexican Restaurant but went in the wrong door! Why did we stay? The place next door was closed! Plus Hubby wanted a beer and we had to use the restroom during our travels. "Big mistake! Huge!" As Julia Robert's from Pretty Woman would say! But there was nothing pretty about this place. We didn't want to order any food... but I ordered something that I thought was a safe bet and they couldn't mess up... a quesadilla... did I mention we meant to go the the Mexican place next door? We waited like 20 minutes and nothing... the server who had taken our order came to the table and asked if we ordered. We were like yeah, about 20 minutes ago. He must have been high because he goes.. "my bad, I forgot to tell the kitchen". Forget dude... and we were out! Then he goes outside for a smoke! For realz!! The restrooms were disgusting. Trash runneth over and the floors were filthy! Ugh! Nuff said!! There were a few tables outside, but from there you can smell the refinery/paper mill which assaults the olfactory receptors ! P-U, stinky... which may come from the word PUtrid?? You etymologists let me know! So basically you're damned if you sit inside or out! Hemingway, despite the 4 TVs, the drinks specials, the tiki bar in the back (which looks haunted) , the party atmosphere becomes deflated and overshadowed by the dank and grody environment and the horrific service, or should I say, lack thereof. If you're desperadoes, like we were, you MIGHT venture into this dim cave, but I say... keep going... not lovin' Lovells!!

So I stopped in for a late lunch early dinner on a Friday night. It snowed a few days ago so the place is not jumping. There is a band setting up on one side. I would say they are a bar restaurant. They have a bunch of tables inside and some outside. There are people smoking on the patio. Not sure if you eat outside when it is nice out that people smoke near you. I ordered the bacon cheese burger. I got lettuce tomato and onions on it and sweet potato fries on the side. Not sure if it was because they were slow but my order came out real quick. The burger was real good. Kind of reminded me of a nice homemade juicy burger you would grill outside in the summer. The woman that was working the bar was also the waitress. She was real nice. I overheard her say that it got real busy for lunch and then was slow again. I guess I can see some of the reviews being bad. If they are busy and she is alone that could be a lot.

A real dump. Avoid like the plague. Nasty bathrooms, basically a real dive, bad attitudes from the employees, extremely annoying local regulars who harass and and try to start fights with others who come in. Draft beers are extremely small. Cheese fries were basically an inedible congealed gelatinous mass of coagulated slime.

My husband often goes to Lovell's place for lunch--but I've only been one other time. Both times my meal was delicious, fast, and hot. This time we got the Nacho appetizer (even the chips were hot) and the Philly steak sandwich (and fries). The Philly had the softest bun with melted cheese and peppers (passed on the onions) and steak. Seriously the best I've had (even in Philly). It's the only place I'll eat in West Point. Love this place!

The food and service are always great. We order to-go more often than we eat-in, but all of our experiences have been pleasant. They're crab dip is delicious. And if you have some leftover, put it on a bagel for breakfast the next day. It's sooo good!

I would never stop here again. Some of worst food, and expensive for what it was. Took almost 2 hours for food. The water had a strange taste, almost soap like. Asked for another glass thinking it was the lemon but no, it was the water. The burgers were OK. I have had better off a backyard grill. Not a 10 dollar burger. Fries were frozen and eh. Salad was fresh but poorly cut.

They were very hospitable and the food was really good. they didnt distract my service dog and the prices were very affordable. the only thing that was a little annoying was our waitress was so loud we could barely hear each other talking when she was screaming across the dining room. other than that she was nice and the food was pretty good

Good food, service and atmosphere. Outside seating. Truly is the "best joint in West Point".

Great food, fun environment, friendly staff. What's not to love(ll) about this place?
