Love local theatres! If you're looking for glitz and glame, this is not the place. But if you're looking for talent, and a sense of community, Little Theatre of Norfolk is your place! Small theater, big heart.

I find there is something very special about live theater that everyone should experience. I've seen shows on Broadway, London, Regional touring companies and many community shows such as the case of Little Theater. Each brings a different perspective and of course level of professionalism. In the case of Little Theater in Norfolk it seems reasonable to review both the infrastructure and production. This was my first time attending, but I have wanted to for years. I had little knowledge about it, but knew it was a very old theater. I later learned it's history dates to the 1920's. The theater brings quality shows to its tiny stage. They are celebrating their 93rd year. The theater is in Norfolk, but the area is called Chelsea. You would be hard pressed to not locate easily due to the prominent location off the main road. Parking is off street (watch signs) or a nearby parking lot. The area seemed safe at night. The exterior was in great shape. Our family bought tickets online for a Saturday showing of "One Slight Hitch". The ordering was easy. Both military and youth discounts are provided. We did have an issue printing off the tickets at home. Once we arrived staff found our order and printed for us. One Slight Hitch is a farce by Lewis Black. 7 characters on the small stage are preparing for a wedding. There are a lot of twist in this comedy and even soft moments. The acting for community was above what most would expect. I saw the show on its last weekend, so the cast had it down after a month. The character of Harper was miscast in my opinion. The Mother Delia played by Kathy Strouse was remarkable, pro work. The interior is like you would expect an older elementary school theater. The fold down seats were so so comfortable. Although tight side by side lots of room to stretch legs was a bonus. The theater in my opinion smelled of must. The cleanliness in the lobby was fine. However, the stage curtain had visible cob webs. We were up front, probably no one else could see. The nearby green room with comfortable seating, drinks and snacks too warm. Restrooms are also located here. This was a good experience. I would return and recommend. 3.5 rounding up.

I like this place. They do a good job of being relevant while still providing a decent venue for small, local theatre location. If you're looking for a fun date idea without breaking the bank, this 'could' be your place. You'd have to have a certain personality to have an appreciation for this place. If you're used to places like Broadway, the Sandler, etc., this may not be your thing. The location is a little older. Bathroom, seats, etc. show some age. However, you also have to realize that you're not spending crazy money on tickets here. You're paying for an experience. The location is just the shell of a place for the actors to do their thing. If you need the glitz and glam, then feel free to look elsewhere. My only suggestion is that if you go here, park in the parking lot that's well lit. The parking lot by the building is poorly lit and the skirt/driveway entrance is kinda rough. Or just park on the street.. that'd have been a better option.Overall though, if you have an appreciation for the arts without needing the flare, check this place out!Food Taste: n/aOverall Service: 5Value of food to cost: 4Facility: 4Repeat customer: yesDog Friendly: no

Chicago is one if my all time favorite musicals! I remember playing the VHS version with Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere, Queen Latifah, Mýa and Catherine Zeta-Jones when I was little until it broke. I even saw Brandy perform as Roxie Hart Twice (On Broadway & at The Kennedy Center in D.C.) so when I heard that we were having a local version right here in Hampton Roads, I had to check it out. The show exceeded my expectations, the actors were very professional and dedicated to their craft. Besides budget obviously, it was no different then watching the actors on Broadway. Kudos to the actors, because I hear they rehearse on a strict schedule and do it all for free. Tickets are very reasonable. For just $15 each, my friends and I were able to get good seats in the second row. Seeing the amazing performance here makes me want to check out more of what this community theatre has to offer. They have a new schedule of shows coming up soon.

This is a delayed review I forgot to post a while back but looking at some of the other reviews it appears it still all holds true. My wife and I love the theater and appreciate it at all levels. Whether being at home or on travel we continually look for performances to attend. Although, we throughly enjoyed our evening we probably won't be going back on any of our future visits to Norfolk/Hampton Roads based on the following:Location: Although the area is continually improving the industrial nature is neither conducive to the arts/the best area of town. 1.5 Stars. Facilities: Small, quaint, clean and comfortable. Every seat in the house is will give a great view of the stage. While the lobby, bathrooms, theater floor (seating area) were roomy and clean. 3 Stars based on a little theater. Acting: Well, that is a hit and miss based on availability of local talent but if you're expecting a broadway level performance, don't. That said, the show we saw was done well and worth the price of our tickets. Overall: It was a good experience but with limited time we have when we're in Hampton Roads we'll stick to Chrysler Hall however; if you're a local and looking for an affordable theater experience then you should definitely give the Norfolk Little Theater a try. PS: I didn't give this rating based on the talent of the performers. It takes a lot of guts, commitment and sacrifice to get on stage at a local theater, and I respect that.

This was the first movie night on the lawn event they have hosted. The precautions for safety and social distancing were intense but clearly understandable as this was a public gathering event during COVID-19. The music prior to the movie was absolutely amazing it was set for a Halloween theme and the DJ Melody with Melody entertainment and company was super entertaining and took requests. Truly the music made the event and set the mood before the movie! Wonderful music wonderful memories!

This is a super cute little performance space in downtown Norfolk. We went to see Chicago last night and truly enjoyed it! The performers were incredibly talented and the production was upbeat and fun. Everyone in my party indicated that we were impressed with the level of professionalism in the performance - from lighting, to staging, to vocals - just really well done - especially for an all-volunteer organization! And given the super affordable ticket prices, I'll be checking out some of their next season for sure. They will be producing Jesus Christ Superstar, Arsenic and Old Lace, Rapture, Blister, Burn, Death of a Salesman, and A Little Night Music.

I'm used to the local theater here in Fredericksburg Virginia. It's a very large theater dinner style theater with tons of room, and plenty of seating that's extremely comfortable. This was the opposite. The folks here very nice let me say that first off. The seating is pretty cramped. I think I counted that there may be 77 or 88 seats. That includes some benches that are set up against the back wall. And the stage itself is so tiny. I can see why they only had eight actors in the entire play. More would not have fit. That being said we were there to see Little shop of horrors. The singing was amazing. I don't know that I would go all the way back to Norfolk to see another play at this place but it was interesting. also they have what's called a green room which is basically the lounge. The room itself is eclectic and there's comfortable seating. However, if you don't have cash you are SOL. Because even though it's 2019, they only take cash so if you're thirsty or want a tiny snack (think Oreos and granola bars), I guess bring your own? Or make sure you have cash.

Last Friday night, March 29, , I ventured out to see "Chicken n Biscuits" at the Little Theatre of Norfolk. This was my first time seeing a show at this theatre. I truly enjoyed the show, which beautifully combined laughter (and I mean laugh out loud laughter) with poignant scenes about family and friends. The staff was super friendly, the casting of the play was exceptional, and the overall experience tremendous. I'll definitely be returning for another show. Heck, I told two friends about the production, and I returned with them to see the April 5 production. Folks, if you're looking for good entertainment at an extremely reasonable price, check out a production at the Little Theatre of Norfolk.

Fun afternoon spent at the Little Theater. The individual performances were charismatic, and the comedy infectious. Added bonus of an escape room experience.
