Food was good, drinks were good, a nice experience. The service wasn't that great but it's okay.

I'm always down for new mexican spots... Especially after eating authentic while traveling. I ordered a few things to devour after enjoying my HH Margaritazzzz. The plantanos frito was ahhhhmazing. Plaintains were cooked perfectly, served piping hot and edges crystalized to the gods above. Accompanied by the best beans i've ever had in my life.Pause- Warning! Lol this review is turning into "all about the beans, babyyyy" cue the music! My loves, idk but these beans were made by the higher power himself. I'm thinking about going back again today just for the beans and plantains. I also ordered fajitas, they are served with two homemade corn tortillas. Who can't go wrong with fajitas?! Anyway- enjoy & if you decide to go- grab some beans & plantains and drop 'em off at my job. Lol

I should have viewed the reviews on Yelp before coming here, but my boyfriend had come here a few months ago and raved about how good it was, and told me they had elote. Soooo... We come here today and the sign still reads Las Tapatias. The inside looks exactly the same, the tables even embellished with the same name on the sign outside. However, once we receive the menus we realize they are totally different. Yes, Las Tapatias has been bought out by a restaurant called Costa del Mar, as other reviews have pointed out. We should have just gone somewhere else upon seeing that we were misled by the sign, Google listing, and Yelp listing, which all definitely need updated, but we decided to just dine there because we had already driven out of our way and been seated. Anyway, the service was okay, and what we ordered turned out to be really good, albeit pricey. Once we put in our orders (my boyfriend got fajitas and a pineapple agua fresca, me a shrimp quesadilla. We both also got waters), the server brought us our chips and dips. The white sauce was really good. I'm not a fan of salsa but my boyfriend is, and he was eating it up. While we were enjoying that, his agua fresca came out. I had a sip and it was deliciously fruity and refreshing. My partner's fajitas came out first. They were a sizzling hot combination of steak, bacon, and shrimp and veggies. They were served with flour tortillas and a nicely presented plate of veggies, beans, and rice. The portion was a little small compared to other fajitas skillets I've ordered at other restaurants. But he said it was delicious. It smelled mouth-watering, but I'm pescatarian so I didn't have a bite.Next came my shrimp quesadilla. Well, the menu said it was served with a lettuce salad with guacamole and crema. All there was was lettuce and guac with it, so I was looking to get a side of sour cream. After about 10 minutes our table was checked on and I was able to request some (come to find out later I was charged $4 for that small ramekin). The waitresses were busy chatting and they only came over because my partner dropped his knife on accident. Once I finally dug into my food, it was yummy. The quesadilla was a little smaller than other restaurants and had less shrimp than veggies, but it was still good. I like that they cut it in thirds for me.Once we were almost done eating, they brought the check suddenly even though my boyfriend wanted dessert. He was able to add it on and they updated the check. Once I viewed it, I realized how much we were charged for water and sour cream.. $4 each for single water bottles and $4 for a dollop of sour cream. They had even asked us if we want another bottle of water. I'm glad we said no. And as another review said, they automatically added an 18% gratuity. Safe to say, despite the good food, we will not be back. If they simply were transparent with their advertising, they would have gotten a better review.

This was our first time here. It was ridiculously amazing. The Hawaiian Fajitas come sizzling hot and served in a grilled pineapple. The wait was a bit long for the food but it was well worth it. Just come prepared if you have small kids. The complimentary chips kept and salsa kept ours busy.

Our favorite restaurant got bought out by "Costa Del Mar". The menu is 1/3 the size and the portion sizes are a total disappointment. I have never seen tacos that small. No more Taco Tapatia, enchiladas or sopes. We really like the staff here as we've gotten to know them through the years but won't be coming around again unless they bring back the old menu.

Wow we loved it here! Stepped out of our normal to try something new and different and this place definitely did not disappoint. Like other reviewers I've drove by this place on Virginia Beach Blvd on many occasions and never crossed my mind we should check it out but thanks to Yelp we found it. When we arrived we were immediately greeted and seated on Friday night with no wait which was a plus. We knew we wanted tacos and tres Leches cake but that was all we initially planned. We got our complimentary chips and dip which were flavorful & a great starter to every great Mexican restaurant. I decided to try the chicken taco salad instead of tacos since I knew I would try a bite or two of my fiancé's tacos and man was that a good choice. We always try each other's food and we both agreed my dish was the best dish like our usual lol. The taco salad was filled with everything you need, guacamole, sour cream, delicious chicken strips, beans, lettuce, pico, etc. We both loved our dish and it was so fulfilling we could not even finish down to the last bite as we were stuffing ourselves and really wanted to try the Tres Leches cake. Our server also highly recommended it as a good choice. They had 3 options for dessert that I noticed to choose from. The original tres Leches cake, the Cuatro Leches Cake or flan. I always get the tres Leches so I wanted to try the new spin and wow it was delicious! Mouth watering being soaked in four different milks which leaves you happy and satisfied. I was so shocked that we were the first to post about this yummy treat since it's been on the menu. It's literally topped with chocolate and caramel sauces and cherry which makes it even more incredible and it taste just as good as it looks which is everything. We definitely recommend checking out this hidden gem. It will have you leaving satisfied.

4.5 stars rounded down. Came on a late Saturday night because my honey was craving a good steak quesadilla. Loved the decor inside & there's even a single slot machine. Weren't greeted as we came in, so we just sat ourselves at a table & then a waitress came over. She was sweet! Forgot about us though when it came to the check, so we had to get up and give it to her at the bar. Many menu items & the menu was cute. Had chips and salsa at the table that were delicious so I knew I had to try the cheese dip. Ordering did not take long and we ordered drinks as well. My strawberry daiquiri tasted like fresh strawberries! How?! My only negative is that it was not blended well. Could barely drink because I could barely get it up my straw without ice getting stuck. Aside from that, the cheese dip was amazing. Had a good amount of thickness to it. Literally had it as my meal & the steak quesadilla was stuffed, "deliciously meaty, and just the right amount of cheese". Would definitely return here again!

Amazing food in Virginia Beach. One of best steak burritos I have had. Huge margs and large portions of food. Our waitress tonight was excellent. Kids meals had a burrito, taco, side and a drink for only 7 dollars. Not sure if I'll be in VB again but would recommend here for people in mood for Mexican

This place really exceeded my expectations. And I admit, this was actually our 3rd pick of Mexican restaurants after the first two we usually frequent were way too busy. I saw this place opened recently so I thought they wouldn't nearly be as busy as the other places, especially on Cinco de Mayo. Well I was right about that, we were seated and greeted within in no time at all. The ENTIRE STAFF was extremely welcoming, pleasant and attentive. We started off with their house margaritas and their ceviche tostada. So far so good! My main entrée was the carne asada, which came out in a relatively short amount of time. It was a huge portion that was a bit salty but I was glad I was able to substitute the flour tortillas for extra rice instead, because that rice was a perfect balance to the steak. Towards the end of our meal, we were asked if would like to try their fried ice cream on the house and of course we didn't turn that down. It's been forever since I've had fried ice cream but that didn't disappoint either and it was a great ending to our meal.I will definitely come back, although it is a couple miles further from our usual location, customer service is a big difference, and this could easily become my new usual for Mexican food!

I came across this spot with a friend for lunch. The hostess was really nice. There is adequate parking available. The size of the restaurant is small but cute. I really liked the decor and the atmosphere they have there. The food was ok. I had some tacos and a glass of horchata. The horchata was sooo good. I had 2 tacos tapatia. They are good. They will definitely fill you up. If you just looking for a quick spot of lunch, this place is decent.
