Had a great experience at this spot for classic Japanese food! As an appetizer I started with the grilled saba mackerel. It was tender and flavorful and great with some lemon drizzled on top. To follow up, I got the sushi and sashimi combo, which came with plenty of slices of fresh sashimi, some nigiri, and a tuna roll. All the fish was super fresh and tasted great!

My previous review was when Ebi owned the place. NEW review - NEW owner / managementA family member stopped by to order food to-go but was TOLD (WITH ATTITUDE AND EYE ROLL) that they're closed. There's always a nice way of saying it. Will not be back.

I'm on a work trip and I was looking for a quick spot to grab a late lunch. Kyushu had decent ratings and was close to my hotel so I gave it a shot. The outside isn't appealing but it fits in with the rest of the neighborhood. It's the end unit of a strip center with a clothing shop and a barber. I got there a little after 2PM and there were at least 4 couples seated which surprised me for a Wednesday afternoon. I wasn't in the mood for sushi so I got the salmon teriyaki bento box. It was probably a 5-6 oz portion of salmon. It came with miso soup, a salad with ginger dressing, a fried spring roll and a California roll. Nothing really stood out to me but I ate everything so there's that.I'm not sure when I'll be back in Norfolk. I won't make it a point to go back but if I find myself in similar circumstances it could be an option.

The staff is very friendly. The floors and eating surfaces are clean. The sushi chef made everything as expected. The food was exceptional. I will definitely return. If you are near Newtown Road and hungry, stop in; you will not be disappointed.

I decided to come here on a Wednesday night and there were only a couple of people there so we were able to find a table quickly. I got the miso soup which was ok. I then got a California, salmon avocado, and spicy tuna. The tuna was not that spicy and the others were ok. The spot was just ok so not great but not terrible.

We used to come to visit Ebi San. Under the new ownership we haven't been there as often as before. Our last trip there was the Valentine's Day lunch special. Who can say no to heart shaped sushi for the occasion? Service was the same as when it was under Ebi San, and ambiance was too

All of the food was good and the tempura cheesecake was super delicious. Really nice waitress and service last minute on Valentine's Day. Although, they seemed understaffed with one waitress and long wait time for the food, would recommend.

Hello My name is Matthew Carter. I have been eating at Kyushu for 16 years. My wife is half Japanese and this place helped me create so many wonderful memories of falling in love. We used to sit at the sushi bar and eat and talk about everything. I still remember the warm washcloths the waitresses would bring for our hands. As time passes, so do owners, and while Ebi San cannot be replaced the current owners are doing their best to faithfully recreate his speciality rolls to the best of their abilities. I ordered three rolls i have gotten countless times, spicy shrimp roll, mermaid roll, and tsunami roll. Everything was prepared immaculately with attention to detail. I had the gyoza for an app and it was delicious. For all the people here leaving one star reviews please recognize that imitation is a sincere form of flattery and the new owners are doing their best to honor Ebi's recipes. The food here still competes with Zushi and mizuno all day long with the plus that they are the only one open Saturdays for lunch. God bless Kyushu!
