INCOMPLETEKundan International Grocery is a South Asian food market. We stopped in during our search for a certain brand of sucking candy made in Indonesia, and only available in a few retail shops in and around Newport News, VA. Kundan isn't one of them, unfortunately. The store is undergoing major renovations. Some aisle are inaccessible and many are simply empty awaiting completion of the work. The folks we spoke with tried to be helpful, but they couldn't find what we were after. Given the upheaval in the store, with tripping hazards abounding, they probably would be wise to close their doors and ask for temporary forgiveness as they endeavor to upgrade and modernize the facility. I am sure their customers would understand and appreciate the concern for their wellbeing. I know I would.

The first time i went here, i instantly enjoyed coming here and I kept coming back for more. The staff is friendly, kind and helpful. They have everything you'd find at a typical grocery store, but instead, it's all Indian based. There's even a restaurant! They have my favorite things such as the frozen dinner meats, the large specialty drinks(aloe drinks, mango, etc.) and frozen naan.

Food was very fresh . Rice didn't have the fart smell to it , i had the Lamb Vindaloo with the garlic naan. It was the best Indian food i ever had . "Medium-hot" is enough to get all the flavor you want with a little kick .

This international grocery is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. I was quite surprise the large variety of Indian/Asian goods with fresh vegetables. We perused the clean and very well organized aisles. Plenty NaN and paratha breads, fresh veggies (banana hearts, long beans, egg plants, etc); they also sell cooking utensils, miscellaneous items like handbags, scarves, and more. As we walked in, we were greeted by a couple of the staff and asked if we were looking for a particular item. The store has an aroma of different spices, more indian spices, which reminded me some of my favorite Indian dishes like chicken masala and tandoori. I highly recommend this place to all fellow yelpers. Check it out!

Tried this new restaurant attached to the store. Dishes were: Garlic Naan (very soft, needed a bit more ghee and garlic). Tandoori chicken- not like any I have had...wet marinade which was tasty enough; however, the chicken was dry (thighs and legs). Basmati rice was oily, but in a good way and had jeera in it...very delicious! I had an eggplant dish- it came in a creamy red sauce. The eggplant was so-so, but the sauce was delicious. Dal Tadka was a bit bland and needed salt, but the flavor was good- just needed a bit more seasoning. The side potatoes tasted smokey...I wish I could remember what the name of it was- but it was the best thing in the order!! Delicious- potatoes and vegetables that seem like they were cooked over a smoky fire...absolutely wonderful! I'll try it again to see if it was a one-off and better next time. Definitely needs some finesse. The ambience was nice for a store restaurant and the young man who was both cashier and server gave excellent service! The Naan also could have been a bit more crispy- balanced. If they correct those areas, they will have a regular customer in me.

Check out this place! You need to walk inside to get to the restaurant, somewhat hidden, but it is fantastic! They served us specialty items off the menu, and treated us like family! The palak paneer was so delicious with sweet naan. I highly recommend trying this place, you just need to walk in to find the restaurant!

Just a delightful little Indian grocery. If you are looking for an Indian product, from spices to mixes, to incense, this is the place. They have a big frozen food section, with so good variety. The fresh vegetables looked great, and the prices were comparable to any grocery store. The store was spotlessly clean, and the people working were helpful and friendly. If you know what you want, they'll have it, and if you just want to start adding Indian dishes to your repertoire, they can help you get started. If only they had a little cafe, with fresh foods (like dosas, hint hint) I think I'd move in!

Outstanding restaurant! All our dishes were great. I particularly liked the bread basket appetizer - 3 large pieces of nan each with different toppings or fillings. Staff was nice and efficient. Ambiance is that of a Indian market. The grocery store portion seemed well stocked and had a great mom/pop feel to it.
