Kitty Hawk Beach is a peaceful, beautiful spot with soft sands and gentle waves. Perfect for relaxing and enjoying a quieter beach experience.

This stretch of beach by the firehouse off Highway 12 is alright. It's one of the beaches I have access to as a resident with a pass. However, I prefer Duck Beach. It's still a nice family option. Parking in the Summer by the firehouse is for residents with a pass. Is it patrolled? Just ask the cars that get tickets or towed during in season use. Off season no one will bother you. The Southern Shores Civic Association is responsible for maintaining. The beach is wide, that's one of the best things going for it. Over a decade our family has used this beach and I consider it safe. Keep in mind there are no guards on duty so watch your little ones. Unfortunately no restroom amenities, picnic or real shelters. Typically there is debris on walk up. There is a single can that often is overflowing in season. Since there are so many tourist that rent homes in OBX it's hard to find a beach you can call local. This is a very touristy beach during the Summer. Please pick up your trash. The wave action is decent, so bring your boards. The fishing is hit or miss and not easy off the beach but I've done it. The views are pretty. I think others have nailed it. A 3 seems to be on target here. 3.5 rounding down with no amenities and challenged parking.

"Make sure you go to public access beach..."All part of the beach is not for swimming. You need to see the board of public access and go there. There is fine if you swim at the wrong part. There is parallel road beside beach, beach house near by it, make this beach beautiful. Best beach to swim. OBX beaches are so long that you won't find crowded at all. You can swim, kayak-surf, do water sports. Get down and have some relaxing moment.

BEAUTIFUL BEACH! Pet friendly, stunning views, sand is soft between the toes! Located nearby everything and free to access and parking! Great place to spend an hour of the full day, and not overcrowded in October! Enjoy the views of the ocean or the houses that run parallel.

3.5 stars. The positives: free parking right across the street, a long line of access of public beaches, seems decently clean, water temperature during the 2nd week of September was still divine.Negatives: doesn't induce the serene type of feeling more Godly beaches tend to inspire on their visitors. i.e. the beach in Okracoke is amazing. If you can get out there, go spend a few days on that island, although watch out for the rip current as it's usually stronger. Otherwise, look at the nearby islands which all are rumored to have stretches of more incredible beaches (i.e. Roanoke). All in all, I spent a few hours swimming here and lounging around. I appreciated the bathrooms across the street for easy changing and jogging along the beach was fun. The waves were pretty intense and the surf was decent for those looking for it.In the future, when coming back here though I'll opt for the beaches a little further out in the Outer Banks.

Any time spent at the beach is time well spent in my opinion... so with that being said, I enjoyed myself at Kitty Hawk Beach. I agree with other reviewers that it's on the crowded side, with a lot of kids playing and your fair share of teenagers. But its not that bad- it's a fairly size beach and you can spread out. Parking is located across the street, and conveniently so are restrooms. I wasn't looking for a beach, I just stumbled upon Kitty Hawk Beach so I consider it a little bit of pleasant surprise to my afternoon. But I suppose if you were actually seeking out beaches in the area you could probably find a better one. I got some cool pics tho. The sky was angry! It was just about to storm.

This beach is my least favorite in the Outer Banks because it's very crowded and not really serene. This area of the Outer Banks is very busy with families and loads of children being one of the cheaper areas to find a rental. There is a really nice pier on this beach though.There is free public parking at Kitty Hawk Bath House and at Byrd Street where there is also portable bathrooms. You can't drive on this beach, bring glass bottles, no fires allowed and you can't launch motorized watercrafts from the beach. There are lifeguards stationed along the beach and I also saw some roving lifeguards.Beach access is located at Balchen Street, Bennett Street, Bleriot Street, Fonck Street, Hawks Street, Lillian Street, Maynard Street and Wilkins Street.

I flown in to Kitty Hawk for a day, parked at the small airport next to the Wright Brothers National Memorial. This beach is just a short walk from the memorial, but crossing the road could be tricky. The beach is a public beach, dogs are welcome. Certain times of the year the dog can be off leash. Most people I met walking the dogs there are on leash. The owner/handler is responsible for and must remove feces and possess a bag/container for waste removal at all times. From the Friday before Memorial Day until the day after Labor Day between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. dogs must be on a leash not exceeding 6 feet. Other time dogs must be kept on a leash not exceeding 12 feet long. Beautiful and nice, but no facilities, no food or bathroom...... Click on to the link below, you will find all the info regarding where the public access and parking are. http://www.townofkittyhawk.org/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={61E76570-E869-4D10-8B60-7A3244CB9E42}

Do not get me wrong...I LOVE the beaches at Outer Banks! But, of all the beaches we have been to on the Outer Banks (Corolla, Duck, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Rodanthe, and Hatteras) this was my least favorite. The pier was nice and the water was nice. But, the sand was hard, gritty, and filled with shell pieces. I would rather have the soft, white sand between my toes. Otherwise, I would give it a 4.
