Keyz New Zealand Style Ice Cream

I love the concept but I feel like there can only be so many options and then I get bored. Maybe if there was another activity or even free wireless to work remote the entire day would help this place out. Place to gather for chess or Scrabble or something like that maybe?The food isn't bad here at all but I want more variety if I want to keep coming back when I visit obx again. Hokey Pokey is a great topping choice in my opinion. Maybe shake options and savory food options if possible. The hours are really good here.Staff is friendly and asked if I wanted a receipt. Quick and good with preparation.

BLUF: Good soft-serve like ice cream, lovely building and friendly employees.Keyz New Zealand Style Ice Cream is located on the east side of the bypass around MP 13 next to Surfside Plaza. On a Saturday afternoon parking at the free standing building was plentiful and we appreciated the time the employees took to explain what New Zealand style ice cream is. Basically, NZ style ice cream consists of mixing a vanilla base and fruit together so it results in a soft serve consistency. At Keyz you pick your size, base, fruit and toppings. I had a vanilla base with raspberries and then a chocolate swirl on top which was a refreshing treat on a warm Saturday afternoon. The new building is charming and the employees were very friendly and welcoming so that coupled with ice cream made for a great experience. I can't say that I necessarily prefer New Zealand style ice cream over typical ice cream that I grew up on but I certainly appreciate having a new option in Nags Head.

super great quality ice cream! you choose your size, base, fruit, and toppings (50¢ per topping). their fruit selection is pretty good. i got banana and there were bits of banana in my ice cream which made it super yummy. they're really quick with serving your ice cream too. i wish i tried the kookaberry, but i tried their hokey pokey topping which consisted of honeycomb toffee and it was a great pairing.there's lots of seating inside. it's a really cute.

So good! Never had New Zealand style ice cream before. They use a vanilla (dairy or nondairy) base and mix in frozen fruit. It's almost like an ice cream smoothie. You can choose toppings and we picked the New Zealand Classic hokey pokey which tasted like a really light toasted marshmallow crisp. They say it's toffee but it's not sticky or super crunchy or dense like toffee. Will definitely be back!

Awesome take on mixing fruit icecream. Great service and explanation of it all. Free smells of the fresh and delicious waffle cones give them a try and support these young entrepreneurs.

We were looking for an after dinner treat and decided to stop here for some ice cream. First I ordered the mixed berry ice cream because I saw a customer walk out with one. It had absolutely no flavored and did not taste good so I threw it away and paid for a redo of Banana, Coconut with Chocolate syrup. Sadly that too was lacking in flavor. My husband ordered the vanilla with peanut butter and chocolate and it was terrible as well. Very disappointed in this ice cream and definitely not worth the money, calories or effort.

We love love love Keyz! The staff are great and the ice cream is so smooth and not too sweet. We live in OBX and have been there 3 times in the last week. This place is new and it is smart to try out a smaller menu and focusing on getting it right before expanding further. This is quality ice cream and each one is made and custom for you.

What a great find on our trip to OBX! We were heading back to our house and wanted ice cream when we passed this super cute place. We stopped , hoping they were still open and we were instantly greeted by the nicest kids ever! A brother and sister who opened up a New Zealand Ice Cream Shop. I can't explain it, just go! Support these kids as they build their business. We will definitely stop on our return trips to the OBX.

Best ice cream on the beach. Homemade waffle cone is delicious. I brought my kid here and he loved it.
