J.A's Bangin' Ribs & BBQ Catering

I would take a couple of stars away because he's only open one day a week, but if I could give him five more stars for the grilled cabbage alone then I would. LolThis brotha needs to stop playin' and kill these Virginia Beach streets with great Bbq. I visited three other bbq places in Virginia Beach and J.A.'s would get my money EVERY time! The other guys weren't bad but J.A.'s was serving ribs straight off of the grill. I love pork spare ribs that are seasoned and thrown on a grill. They don't have to be fall off the bone. They just have to be good and these ribs have flavor. They really didn't need heavy bbq sauce. I don't care for smoked meats over grilled meats so this here is the difference maker for me. His beef ribs are tender as well. I'm not usually into sides but his grilled cabbage is a hit for me. I loved the smokey kick. I also really liked the potato salad. It had some green stuff on top which looked like chopped parsley and it added to the flavor. One day I hope to try the mac n cheese off the grill. It looked good as well. I'll have to be honest and say that there is a wait. The service isn't fast. It wasn't a problem for me but be warned. lol. I got there a little before 11am and they had the slab of pork ribs ready but the sausages and beef ribs weren't ready. It gave me a chance to have the pork ribs for an early lunch. I came back a couple of hours later to get the beef ribs and he needed another couple of hours to make more. Consider calling ahead. I have been here almost two weeks and. I missed him last weekend due to the rain. The rain didn't stop him today and thank God because I fly home on Tuesday. I look forward to eating here again on my next trip.

Wow what great food! Stopped by on Saturday afternoon to get a rack of beef ribs, rack of pork ribs, potato salad and baked beans. Everything was outstanding including the conversation with the owners. Pork ribs were very meaty. The rub was great and the sauce was indeed Bangin'. The beef ribs were also tasty and flavorful. We look forward to making a return visit the next time we are in the area.

I pass this location quite a bit but I have not had a chance to stop until today. Don't let the unassuming appearance of this mobile restaurant fool you...the food is AMAZING. Since moving to VA I have eaten at my fair share of BBQ joints. The problem I usually run into is that I either like the BBQ and not the sides, or I like the sides and not the BBQ. That was not the case here. I actually finished everything I ordered. Do yourself a favor and stop here for a bite.

The wonderful smell of BBQ in the air lured me to J A's. Its definitely worth the wait. I had the BBQ chicken and beef ribs. The sauce....OH the sauce was heavenly. A nice combo of sweet with a hint of heat. The chicken completely fell right off the bone. And the potato salad...let's just say, next time I will get double servings. So why only 4 stars? Only thing was that my beef ribs were quite shy of meat. But what meat that was on the bone was tender and delicious. Otherwise, the service was wondeful and I will definitely be back!

There was a rain delay today BUT the food is worth the wait. The Ribs are the signature... but I Love the sides. I recommend the potato salad and baked beans combo added to your Dinner plate. When the question is asked "would you like BBQ on your order"... the only answer is YES.

I've seen this place for awhile and finally decided to stop by and give them a try. I tried the Chicken and Rib combo with out sides. They had limited sides, I would have loved to see some Mac & Cheese as a side. They were out of the Beef ribs. I was told you have to come before noon if you want beef. The BBQ sauce was good and had just a small hint of spice. I think the ribs could have used a few more minutes on the grill, it didn't have the fall off the bone consistency and the chicken was kinda chewy. I tried a sample of the pulled pork and it was amazing. I would return for the pulled pork alone.

This place is amazing! The woman who runs this is the sweetest woman around. You can tell she cares about the product she sells you because it shows by just one bite. I tried her pulled pork sandwish and it was bomb! From the pork, to the sauce, the coleslaw on top, and the bun. It is the perfect mixture that just kind of melts in your mouth.Side note: It is cash only (I recomend having extra to tip!)Side note: There is also a holiday menu available for preorder.

Have you ever awakened on a Saturday reminiscing about that uncle who made thee best barbecue? The type of barbecue where you had to lick your fingers after every bite. The type of barbecue that was seasoned to perfection and had ample bbq sauce with every bite. The type of barbecue that makes you want to suck on the bone for awhile and not share with your pet dog. I woke up today in the mood for some homestyle bbq and J.A.s did not disappoint. In addition to the flavorful, finger licking good pork ribs and chicken, we really enjoyed the potato salad and baked beans. It's the type of potato salad that the old church mothers used to serve after a long Sunday service...creamy and delicious. All in all, I recommend that you call ahead or stop by J.A. Food truck for some of the best bbq in this region. The only negative comment that I have is that they are only open on the weekends.

Great pulled pork! Best in the area. Right mix of vinegar, sweet and BBQ. Ribs were tender and delicious. Friendly and polite. Definitely will be back! Sides are small, bit that's everywhere.
