Yesterday we made a return visit to the Island House for a late lunch while enjoying a relaxing day on the Eastern Shore. This place is great! The staff and kitchen crew are CONSISTENTLY AMAZING! The food was (and always is) fresh and cooked perfectly, which is hard to find with seafood sometimes- but we have been here multiple times, and they never fail! There is a GREAT VIEW from any seat in the restaurant and the vibe is exactly what you would want in this hidden gem of a fishing town! The staff is SO friendly and accommodating also, we felt welcome and not rushed! We will be back and will be ringing the bell!

Review as a ChefOysters- very salty and not fresh. Crab hush puppies- so sweet that you could not taste crab. Crabcake- mushy and no flavor. Cole slaw- thick cut of cabbage with bottled cole slaw dressing drizzle on top. Supposed to be tossed? And, thin sliced. Table service was terrible. Waitress disappeared, never came back to see if everything was ok?I complained to the waiter and the manager and they just said to me that Jimmy Buffet loved the crab cake. No discount was offered. Ambiance - beautiful.

Decided to give this a try for lunch on our way home from VA Beach. Peaceful marsh water view. Tables outside - weather permitting- and sparsely furnished inside. Friendly service and decent varied menu. We decided to try the crab cakes. Bear in mind that when I get crab cakes I am comparing them to G&M in Baltimore, who have THE Best crab cakes ever. These cakes at least had lump crab in them but because of the bready coating around the crab meat I couldn't taste the crab just the breading. So no taste really but they looked good. No old bay offered but apparently had we asked we could have gotten some in the side. Side dishes were fine- what you would expect - nothing to write about good or bad. This place is great for the view with ok food. We won't stop here again but will look for something else on our next trip.

I get the idea this restaurant (pretty much the only one around this immediate area) is simply here for the tourists. I did notice one guy brought his own catch for the kitchen to cook and that is a great little feature. The waitress was nice but wasn't prepared to answer a simple question about which craft beers on tap. There were only two. In addition she wasn't offering to get the answer for us until I requested it. Anyway we got that sorted and placed our food order and we both went to wash our hands after a day of antiquing. Neither bathroom had any paper towels stocked and it was only 6pm on a Friday. The appetizer crab hushpuppies arrived and while the hushpuppies were tasty, neither of us could taste any crab not the telltale little chewiness usually associated with crab hushpuppies. On to dinner, we had the $43 combo plate with mashed potatoes and coleslaw. The coleslaw was simply shredded cabbage with coleslaw dressing drizzled on top. That was a first for me and very disappointing. The flounder, oysters and shrimp were tasty but the crab cake was not. Given our location I would expect lump crabmeat, not shreds and filler but that's what it had. The crab cake in the first few photos on the main page here are not the crab cake we received. Very odd. The sweet potato biscuits are one of the things that brought us in but they were just not good. I'm fairly certain I've had them before so perhaps they are not made in house. They were gummy and just not good. We originally had planned to have the chocolate bread pudding but after the lackluster dinner we opted to go elsewhere for sweets and an after dinner cocktail. We really wanted to like this spot but we would not return. For the money there are better spots not too far away.

Nice place on the water. Be mindful of high tide, this entire area floods, especially the parking lot. Food was good, lite not anything too heavy. Cheese dip and crabcake was amazing. We also had these crab hush puppies that were interesting. Service was good the server checked on us, but not too much. I hope to come back here again one day.

We only wanted some appetizers. So we ordered oysters on the half shell. Waitress was cheerful and knew her menu. Loved the view or the marsh.
