Ironclad Distillery

Stopped in this distillery while in Newport News. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable about their whiskey. The tasting room is very inviting with lots of seating and comfy sofas. We did a tasting of four different whiskies and ordered an old fashioned. We tried the maple cask, toasted oak cask, honey, and the flying fox winery cask. The smell of the flying fox winery was my least favorite but the best as far as taste. I'm a bit of a bourbon snob. So, I didn't purchase any due to the fact that they didn't taste aged at all. The old fashioned was amazing!! Definitely a great place to try if you're in the area.

We had a great experience at Ironclad. If you're not a whiskey drinker, there isn't much else for you. There are mocktail options and snacks, but if you want a cocktail, it's going to have whiskey. If whiskey isn't your favorite, I suggest getting the Cashmere cocktail. The lemon juice in it cuts the oaky flavor of the whiskey, and it tastes light and refreshing.We also got a tour from the owner, and it was really cool to get a look at the operation behind the scenes. This was a great experience, and we'll definitely be back!

The beverages are very good. The atmosphere was amazing exceptional. My go to location.

Went here b/c one of my buddies said I'll get the best Old Fashioned I'll ever have here. New to the world of Whiskey and cocktails how could I say no?Now realize that I am a complete noob. If it wasn't for my buddy, I would've just ordered a regular Old Fashioned. However, the key is replacing the regular whiskey with the Hot Southern Honey Cask. I have to admit that hands-down that was the best cocktail I may have ever had in my life. It was just ridiculously delicious and I was super bummed that they are bound by law to only allow 3oz of liquor. BUT, I get it. Laws are laws.However, it was so delicious that I ended up buying a bottle of the whisky to go. Now the only thing I'm bummed about is that I can't replicate it at home lol.I'm still working on going back to go buy some of the simple syrup but seriously, if you're a whisky aficionado or a newbie like me, it's worth the visit.Food Taste: n/aOverall Service: 5Value of food to cost: 5Facility: 5Ambiance: Cozy location that definitely is suitable for adults. A little out of the main stream of town but definitely worth it. We enjoyed a bourbon tasting flight each. Definitely worth having our own as these are such good bourbons. Also added a sample of their brand new rye. Delicious. We got here on a Wednesday right at noon, when they open. We were the first to sit at the bar. By the end, it was almost full of people enjoying cocktails and tasting flights at the bar. Loved watching the bar waitress making all the drinks. So fun seeing all the action and science. She is friendly and talks while making drinks. We are sitting on the "sight of the Monitor and Merrimac". So cool to understand the history of this part of town. Many plaques and photos of the 1800's, flags, lots of history here. Bins of oranges, large canning jars of cherries for making old fashioned cocktails. We went to purchase the Sword and Sash bottle for the Citadel in Charleston and ended up enjoying their cocktail flight. They only allow 3 oz per guest which keeps the environment nice and peaceful. The bourbon was delicious and smooth and their cigar was perfect to end the night.

Ironclad was a destination on a road trip from Raleigh through Virginia. I love that they offer a flight of straight bourbon or cocktail flight. We opted for a cocktail flight - three for $20. There are several options (maybe don't get This is the Way) most of which were quite enjoyable. The space is minimal but with character. The people are friendly and knowledgeable. Plenty of parking, clean restrooms. I enjoyed the tour and would certainly return.

The Distillery has a very welcoming staff that immediately acknowledges you as you enter. With a industrial lounge vibe you get a sense that you're going to have a quality experience. Great vibes all around, very industrial laid back vibe. Service is nice and the people are friendly. The craft cocktails are amazing! It is THIS bourbon distillery that got me into bourbon.

The ambience here is fantastic!! So relaxing love the feel of the place. Service was great, everyone knew their product, so were able to guide us perfectly for our selections. Cocktail flights I had, all are at the top of my list for best!! Their Iron Clad small batch, and Buzz's bourbon cream liqueur was our families top choice.
