This is definitely a hidden gem in Chesapeake!! A great place to ride your bike, take a walk or just get away for a bit to calm your nerves.

This 90 acre park is interesting because it's really TWO parks as it is cleanly split by Military Highway but between Rokeby and Paramont Avenues.Lots of old growth trees and a small creek for natural features, but there are also basketball courts, a bike trail, a rain garden, playground, picnic shelters and walking trails.Quite the neat spot and I'm glad I stopped by to get in some nature.[Review 10824 overall, 593 of 2019.]

This is a great place to mountain bike or just take a walk amongst all the tall trees and feel like you are in the wilderness. There is a small parking lot and there are a couple of picnic tables near the parking lot and that's about it. There are no bathrooms here, for that reason I wouldn't bring my potty training toddler here. We saw a couple of dogs but I'd definitely keep them on a leash because it would be easy to loose sight of them once inside the walking park because there are so many trees. I'd definitely bring bug spray. The park is a nice place from Christmas family photos which is what we did here. Would love to return kid free.

Indian River Park is on the medium size for a neighborhood park (at least on the one side of the road). It has established trees along with a very small kept up garden area and 2 raised garden beds. Not all aspects of the park are well maintained. There was broken glass in multiple areas in the grass and trash on the ground. The playground area with wood chip mulch is nice for elementary school aged children and younger. It also has a rock climbing area. The playground is in full sun. There are trees along the perimeter of the park, which would provide shade if you wanted to bring chairs etc. It has two pavilions, one with 4 picnic tables and the other with 3. There is a basketball court with 3 hoops and a nearby bike rack. There does not seem to be any toilet amenities, so not ideal for a long visit.

I got lost in here! Loved it My first time taking a trail through a woodsy area. I'm a marsh girl myself, but this was cool. The tree roots created what looked like stairs in some areas. There were several bridges. Man made bike hills. Marked trees for direction. Lunch tables. Not much to say. The point is to walk or bike and that's just what everyone was there to do. Even the huge spiders and bunnies.

It's a nice walk through the little forest but it does look like it is more for mountain biking so if you do go walking make some room for bikers. & the playground is called "providence park" if your looking for the playground. We found that out after walking through the path trying to find it

This park has potential, but it must not be traveled frequently. We ran into many spiderwebs throughout the trail. Also, poison ivy was everywhere. I ended up jumping into a poison ivy patch after walking into a fully formed spiderweb. I know it's nature, but it's the first trail I've ended up with two spiders on me because of the webs across the trail. It's also the first trail that had homeless people sleeping on the benches in the park.

I went to the address knowing that the hiking trails were elsewhere. I asked a worker there in the parking lot how to get to the actual trails. She gave me fuzzy directions which were not helpful at all. I never found the trails and went elsewhere to hike. The phone number for this place is not for this location. it is for a central location for a number of parks. The person I spoke to there was no help to me. She didn't know how to get to the actual trails. The powers that be should include a different address for the trails than the address for the admin building. Also, I found the maps on the Internet are worthless in finding where the trail location is. Waste of gas.
