I'm in love and feeling like a bad azz!!First of all, I am giving this location 5 stars based on the WOW factor!!So my daughter was participating in an event about five minutes away from here...I had planned to workout at the Y in Greenbrier thinking that was the closest to my current location... but I did a quick search for YMCA's in the area, and this location popped up! I was concerned at first, because I had absolutely no clue this place existed. Now I have no idea when this place opened...but it was only five minutes away from my baby.So I worked out here a few Friday's ago... the Y wasn't hard to find, but if you are not looking for it, you can easily miss this while riding up and down Indian River Blvd. I traveled this road weekly about four years ago because my baby attended school within walking distance from this location and I had no clue this location was sitting right here. Now the building sits back away from the street, so again if you are not looking for it, you can easily miss it.So I arrived about 6:30 pm and the parking lot was a bit full. The Y is located in a shopping center. As a result, the parking lot is shared with a handful of surrounding businesses. And the parking lot isn't well lit... be careful always.I walked in and was immediately greeted by the front desk employee. I advised this was my first time here, she offered to give me a tour, but I declined. She pointed me in the direction of the women's locker room and then I told her I'll find my way around and thanked her.The locker room is a bit crammed. Well in comparison to other Y's I have visited it's the most maze like set up. But I managed...There is an Olympic size pool (IMO) in the center... so as soon as you walk in the front door... you cannot miss it! The weight room is kinda small in comparison to my main location, but I managed. Alongside weights, cardio machines are located here as well. But the WOW factor comes in to play where most the people here working out all seemed to be fit! So working out on a Friday evening...I felt empowered! A great feeling! There's a functional room in which you can work out one on one or at your own pace away from the main weight room. I did step foot inside and completed a couple sets of dead lifts while two men worked out here as well. But they were not in my way AT ALL.If I am in the area again, I am speed walking to this location.I highly recommend you give them a try. If you are not a member the YMCA does offer free week trials for potential members and every year they have an open house for non members as well. There is an area available to drop your child(ren) off while you work out. And I am sure there is so much more that I missed here, but I was on a time constraint... but next time I plan to thoroughly check out the facility.Have fun and enjoy life :)

The fam and I came here on a Sunday afternoon. There was hardly anyone there and it was pretty quiet. The little one went into the Interactive Zone and he was the only one there; no problem, him and the young attendant played a game of Nintendo. Hubby decided to go into the sauna and I worked out for about 30 minutes then joined him. Their workout area is of adequate size. Like I said, no one was there except for one other person. Their locker rooms are pretty nice and clean. They have an Olympic size inside pool with an attached hot tub. The pool was great. They have a good size sauna and surprisingly them have a steam room. However, when I walked into the steam room, it seemed to have a strong urine/unclean smell to it. It looked clean, and I know the YMCA has a good reputation of cleanliness, but I just couldn't shake the smell. Maybe it was just me?! I was also a little disappointed I didn't seem to get service inside. All in all, there's a couple small things I didn't like, however, the YMCA is the best place to go for family exercise, pool time, lessons, etc. This one happens to be a lot smaller than my usual Great Bridge location, but everyone was very nice and we had fun! I'll definitely come back!

To begin, it's important to know that I am a bit biased toward the Y because of the family environment they foster and I have never been to a terrible one (though I'm sure they exist). This particular YMCA is small but the space is well-utilized and allows for all the things that one usually expects when they go to a YMCA!I started coming here for the gym because, while we are still members at the VB Rec Centers (it's a yearly fee rather than monthly), once our baby was born we weren't able to go as a family because they do not accept children under 2 years in the child care area and they do not allow children under 14 upstairs at all (even with adult supervision)... The YMCA is quite the opposite... Here in Virginia Beach, Child Care services are included with your membership fee (which is really awesome), kids 10 and older can be in weight room and cardio area with adult supervision, and kids 14 and older can use the exercise equipment unsupervised as long as they've taken the safety class! This means that rather than having to hire a babysitter and find a friend's house our 10 year old can go to, we can all pile in our car and drive to the Y for an hour or so while my husband and I work out, and our kids get activity in too!We are so grateful for how family-friendly the Y truly is and that they make fitness and family time interchangeable. We have yet to try swimming lessons or the pool here (there is a fee for lessons) but I will update once we decide to enroll our tiny one in swim lessons!

7/2/18: Signed my son up for camp last week and this week. Front desk staff wasn't friendly when we walked in. They just pointed me to the stairs to get to the camp. The 2 camp staff members I interacted with WERE nice though...2 check in ladies...very friendly & I felt comfortable leaving my son there. We do not ever come to this location, so I was a little anxious. Unfortunately, after his first day, he didn't want to go back stating that a staff member was mean in the pool. I decided to try again today since it's a different theme. We will see if this visit was any better. Fingers crossed!! I am not impressed with this location at all. I prefer Granby 100% - it's brighter & the staff actually are friendly everywhere I turn.

Had a great time at the pool and sauna room. Friendly staff. The facility just looks a little small to me.

Good facilities and plenty of parking. A word of caution, if you ever want to cancel, make sure you read the fine print. The process is lengthy and may require another draft from your account. Requires a 30-day notice!
