Indian Fields Tavern

Hit or miss. The grounds are very nice but some of the recent changes are not so great. They used to have music at the restaurant, but no more...a huge disappointment. The music is either at the brewery or in the barn. The food is ok. The chicken sandwich (Bird Barn) is very good, but the Farmhouse CAB was awful. When we complained, the manager just brought out more chicken and walked away. Odd. Service is always good. Managers, not so much. I think they are trying to do too much while discarding the things that made them popular with customers. I would rate 2.5 stars, but since I can't, I'll round up to 3.

Been here several times, always to hear the bands! They have great live music! We saw a band in the courtyard and ordered dinner on the patio! The fried chicken was off the chain and the wait staff was pleasant and efficient! We also had some lovely wine! Another time we came for a charity event, several bands playing in the barn area near the silos, lots of outdoor lights, rustic and cool venue with fire pits and "bring your own chairs", vendors, brewery, food trucks, outdoor potties. Out in the country l, off Rt. 5 in Charles City, in farm fields, great spot to hang for brews, music and good food!

This was my first time here and it was AMAZING! I will say if you're looking for a fast lunch stop, this might not be the place for you. We got seated quickly and our waitress got our orders but it took a while for our sandwiches to come out. But we weren't in a hurry. Our waitress was awesome. Now the food: my mom had the farmhouse CAB and said it was amazing! I had the Charles City Burger and it was probably the best burger I've ever had. The bacon jam was tangy and crunchy and the Brie was melted and gooey to perfection! We both got side salads that were super fresh and crunchy. All of the dressings are made in house. We got the Caesar and it was delicious. The entire location is stunning! We will definitely be back!

Met the in-laws for dinner before a concert. We were able to be seated outside on a gorgeous evening. Outdoor seating is the way to go if the weather permits. The food was good. I ordered the BLT with cucumber salad and my husband ordered the chicken sandwich. I was a little disappointed with the BLT, I felt like I could make something similar at home. The cucumber salad saved the meal though, would definitely recommend it for a side! Overall good experience, I would like to give the food another chance.

Absolutely love the food, location, service & ambience at this perfect little pit stop. We come here every time we are traveling from NC to VA.

Fried brussels sprout appetizer (3.5/5) - honey vinaigrette added a nice sweetness but I suspect also messed with the crispiness. The 'sprouts were deeply deep fried so I expected them crispy and tender but they were a bit more soggy and al denteSteak frites (4/5) - good flavor on the steak and great fries. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. I asked the steak to be med rare and it ended up being closer to med well, but the meat was still not too chewy. Fries fish (3.5/5) - standard fried cod. Batter was nicely golden brown but the fish was a little dry and left some flavor to be desired. Bread pudding (5/5) - an outstanding dessert. With the vanilla ice cream accompaniment, the bread pudding was a warm melt-in-your-mouth treat that made me forget about the brussels sprouts for a moment. Not overly sweet either, and a decent portion. Well done!Strawberry and peach ice cream (4.5/5) - another great dessert, the seasonal flavors of strawberry and peach blended together for a unique and very pleasant taste. Mostly strawberry but the additions of peach bits in this house-made ice cream tied the flavors together. I just wish it was a little strongerService/atmosphere (5/5) - great porch seating with screen doors and all. Friendly southern hospitality, all total about as good as it gets. i decided to round this one up to 5 stars for the outstanding desserts and service as well as the decent value.

Perfect lunch with great beer selection. Add a fried egg to whatever sandwich you get...delicious.

Stopped here while cycling on the Virginia Capital Trail and had the best burger. Can't wait to return to try more things from their menu. Loved that they had bike parking and porch seating (for when the weather is nice).

Had dinner with friends on a Thursday and completely enjoyed the entire experience. Beers on tap were from the adjacent Five Fields brewery and include a delicious Porter. Apps included pimento cheese with crispy pita triangles, and chicken wings that were superb. All the entrees were stellar. Service was first rate. The world should beat a path to this charming, remote classic.

My daughter and I were celebrating our 50/70 birthdays and had absolutely the most AMAZING Caramel bread pudding EVER!The service was superb!We sat on the veranda with a beautiful view of the fields and enjoyed live music from 5 Fields Brewery!Go here!!
