The park has had a refresh the foam flooring is so nice and the bathrooms are so clean. No one wants to use. Park bathroom that is not clean. It was so nice this time around. My students had. Great time.

There's a beautiful small rose garden that is nice to visit around May, when the roses are in full bloom. It's within the Huntington Park area and it's worth visiting. The gazebo is a nice area for weddings.

I was visiting a friend in the nearby Hilton Village. While there is a nice park, and fishing pier in Hilton Village (Riverfront Park), I wanted to explore more and spotted this park on Google. So I took off, on foot. I got here via Hilton Terrace, to River Road, to Franklin, then a right on Burns, to North (another right), and back to River Road. Now I could have hooked a left on Craig to get to my destination, a water crossing, but I stayed on North, back to River Road, to pick up South Ave, which got me to the aforementioned water crossing. This took me to Kawana Circle, which leads to the park proper, where many explorable options await. I saw a Fort Fun, which is a large playground, a tennis center, a public boat ramp, a beach, a YMCA, and a museum (Virginia War Museum). Also from this park there is a great view of the James River, the James River Lift Bridge, and good spot for watching the sun set. If you're adventurous, you could even walk to the restaurant, and fishing pier, on the bridge. I didn't get that far, but I was tempted. Bottom line: The scenery is very different, and very cool, from what I'm used too. PS. Now maybe Yelp! will stop bugging me to write this review!

Looking for a free activity for your kids? Huntington Park's Fort Fun might be worth checking out.The playing is geared towards younger kids 2-5, but has lots to offer. Swings, slides, mini rock climbing, and obstacle courses make this a fun adventure for your littles. Having trees nearby, there is shade - especially in the morning - and a few benches places around the playground for parents to easily watch over their children. While there is a bathroom facility next to the playground, it could use some upkeep.Overall a clean and fun place to take kids to get out of the house for some fresh air.

This is a fantastic park - our kiddo loves it. There's something for all ages and there are plenty of nooks and crannies for kids to hide, run around, and generally do kid things. There's also a large open grass area where you can play ball or toss a frisbee around. When it's windy, kites are happening. It tends to get crowded, and a lot of day cares roll up and let kids loose with little supervision. So you have to judge how involved you need to be based on that. When it's quiet, I can bring a book, look out in the river and let the kiddo play without worrying. The location on the water is very relaxing, so I recommend it to all stressed out parents!

The day after our family buried my 96 year old great grandmother, I decided to come to the James River to think for a bit. Huntington Park is a nice oasis in Newport News that has a nice beach, tennis courts and more. It was a peaceful place for me to say a last goodbye to my great grandmother.

Hunting Park is a great park with many things to do! We enjoy parking near the beach and taking our dogs on a walk through the open field past Fort Fun and playing fetch with them in the baseball fields. There is one nice game-ready field with another practice field next to it. We can take our dogs to the practice field and let them off leash to run around. They love it. The open field next to Fort Fun has 2 park shelters where we have seen many family reunion barbecues and birthday parties. With the playground right next door it's a great place for kids as well! The beach is small and right next to the James River Bridge. The view is beautiful, especially at sunset because the beach faces west. The park is open from sunrise to sunset and is often patrolled by park rangers. During swimming months there is always a lifeguard on duty as well.
