History Breakfast and Brunch

Out. Standing.One of the best breakfast spots I've ever eaten at. We ordered the omelette and the burrito. I would highly recommend both.

We're from out of town so we had no idea what to expect. First impressions might give some people pause, but once there you discover that the folks who run the place seem like honest, hard working people. The restaurant is small, and looks like it can accommodate only about 24 customers. The place was packed, which is probably not surprising given its size. After a short wait for a table, we were seated and told that the cooks were running behind and that it would take 35 minutes or so for our food to be brought out. All this made perfect sense based on what we were seeing. We were also told that 4 of the 5 sandwiches listed on the menu were sold out. Were they surprised perhaps by the big crowd? Based on other reviews I've read since, these sound like recurring problems.As it turns out, the wait was more like 60 minutes, but that was okay, we weren't in a hurry. The point here is that if you're in a hurry you probably should go somewhere else. During that hour-long wait the waiters made sure our coffee cups were full and hot. A wait like that gives you a lot of time to watch, both the staff and customers. It became apparent after a while that the cooks seem able to prepare only one meal at a time. This means that if, for example, you are a party of 4, each person will receive their food one order at a time, with approximately a 5 minute wait in between each. Likewise, my order arrived 5 minutes before my wife's. The best we can figure is that the kitchen, or the stove, or both, are tiny. Our food, when it arrived, was very good, and the portions were large. I had the French toast platter, which included eggs, bacon and delicious potatoes, and my wife had the turkey sandwich, which also included potatoes. All-in-all, we enjoyed the break from our road trip, and we're glad to have supported a small family-run business. That being said, we are not likely to return.

History Breakfast is a gem for made-to-order food in a classic diner setting. Honestly, it's some of the best food I've had in Virginia--impressive quality given the limited space and resources they're working with!That said, they definitely struggle with logistics. Service can be slow, and it's surprising there hasn't been a better system put in place to ease the strain on the servers. If they could streamline food prep and distribution, I think they'd see a big boost in both customer satisfaction and profits. The food's worth the wait, but a little efficiency would go a long way here.

Love having this breakfast option in the burg and couldn't wait to try before I hit the highway to head back south. I called my order in for the veggie breakfast burrito with egg whites, potatoes, mushrooms, spinach, etc. My order wasn't ready when I got there and it seemed they were short staffed so not sure if that's the norm. The burrito was so massive I could only eat half, so I wouldn't recommend getting this before a long drive but it was simple delicious!

Looks like it could be a real gem. Nice cozy home like feeling. Just the service is really slow. I came in with my son after picking him up from Virginia State University for some breakfast. I was standing around 7 mins before someone even spoke to me which was the cook. The waiter never came over at all. Another group of ppl came in & also waited but received no attention. Please work on the acknowledgment of customers. I'm looking forward to coming back and rewriting a review.

FIRST THINGS FIRST: This is not a "quick bite" kind of place. I can only assume it is a man and his son working the place. All food is made to order so be prepared TO WAIT. So, don't come up in here going "well how long is it going to take?" They didn't forget about you. Service came out to apologize and to give updates. When the food came out it was HOT and exactly what I was expecting. And more importantly it was delicious. We will be back. So go try this place in what I believe is the old Carringtons music store but don't be a jerk.

I'm torn on making this review. This place has amazing food but service definitely lacks. Driving thru the area, I came across a review for a breakfast burrito. I read it and decided to give them a try. Walked in and took about 5 minutes to get anyone to seat me. Once seated, took about another 10 minutes for anyone to come by and say anything, including getting me a drink. I went ahead and ordered the Breakfast burrito. Couple of things I noticed. The 1st thing are the crazy amount of flies that are inside. They are everywhere! I came in at noon exactly and about 45 minutes in, I almost walked out. At no point past having my order taken, no one came to check on me or my drink. Now as I'm thinking of leaving, the food shows up about 50 minutes in. The Burrito is amazing. The breakfast potato's were cooked to perfection. Food alone I give it a 10/10. Service I give it 1.5 out of 10. That burrito was fire , just won't be back between the flies and subpar service.

The food is consistently good at HiStory! The staff is so nice. When they are busy the wait for food can be long but the staff communicates well and is appreciative of patience. While waiting you can look at QR codes on historic people they have placed throughout the restaurant! Never had a bad experience and will continue to go to HiStory!

Food was great! Service was great but a tad slow. Be patient please, it is a small space only 2 servers at the time. I will return!

Server was nice however service was extremely slow. It wasn't a crowded day so no clue on why the food took about 40 mins to come out. I got a turkey bacon, egg and cheese which was delicious. Nothing fancy but a simple place to go enjoy breakfast with a friend. I would go again to try other menu items and hopefully faster service.
