Himalaya

A bit of a different experience. The food was pretty good. They don't have Nepalese food despite the name and sign but the typical Indian items were average or slightly better than average. They have tables inside but it seems like a takeout restaurant. You order and pay at the counter and they bring food in disposable containers with paper plates and takeout utensils sets. They don't have water. You can buy sodas or bottled water from the cooler but they won't give you water or fill a water bottle. Something about their water tap. Might get takeout in the future if we're really craving Indian but won't go out of our way. Definitely won't eat in again.

Himalaya opened in the spot where TacoLoco was previously. I am always open to good Indian food and decided it would be our Friday night dinner. We went for carryout and it only took about 15 minutes for it to be ready.We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Allo Gobi and Daal Tadka with an order of Naan. They included a large portion of rice for each entrée. We actually cooked our own basmati rice and were glad we did because they did not provide good fragrant rice. We saved it and made fried rice later. We wanted to like this better than we did, especially considering the rave reviews. We found it bland in general. As a matter of full disclosure, when I order for the two of us, I cannot choose spicy. In this case I ordered mild so that "you-know-who" can eat it. However, lack of heat is not what I am referring to. It was just not particularly well flavored. The daal in particular was almost unseasoned. The chicken chunks were large, overcooked and quite dry. The chicken was over-sweetened and it as well as the Aloo Gobi lacked the wonderful sweet-sour balance that I expected.Don't get me wrong, this was not bad. It was just not five-star. We need to get back to Masala Bay and see if we had better food there. It has been a while since we went there. We had higher hopes for Himalaya because it is so close to home. We have long time Indian friends who told us that Nepalese cuisine is "Indian Lite", so maybe that is the reason for a reduced spice palette. I will try it again for sure, but probably will have to pick up something else for Ms T, because I am not coming home with mild again. We really wish it had been better.

Delicious Indian food in a friendly, welcoming and accommodating environment. We pre-ordered and picked up our dinner "to go" but there was also indoor dining available. We have vegans in our family and the restaurant was very helpful in pointing out vegan options. The mango probiotic drink was amazing. All our dishes were extremely tasty. We will make this a regular stop on our future OBX vacations.

It is absolutely wonderful to see a fresh new flavor in the obx! We had done beach Tex-Mex twice and were looking something different. The sweetest woman helped us navigate the menu to find our absolute favorites and the service was phenomenal. We decided to take the food to go and left with all the fixings of an epic meal with our family. The naan was made to order from fresh dough, the rice was the perfect texture and every single spice level was perfectly on target. The restaurant is clean and inviting and I hope to be able to dine in next time. Once home we decided to eat family style so that we could try everything. The biryani was amazing. The shahi paneer was my choice and was some of the best I have ever had. My husband chose the chicken vindaloo and thoroughly enjoyed it. The tomato soup was fantastic. Can't say enough good things about Himalaya and can't wait to go back!!

Yummy food and sweet service! Vegan options! Everything was delicious. Next time we may order to go as the ambiance is just okay.

On August 4th, around 5:00 pm, we ordered Indian food from your restaurant. The food was atrocious. Without detailing all the issues with the food, we contacted the restaurant the same day. We called on August 4th and 5th to report this, but the staff was uninformed, not knowing the manager's name or contact information. The staff was poorly trained and failed to apologize, which was very disappointing.The owner called us after a day. She outright refused to refund our money, asked the food back where she knew we stayed at the hotel and they cleaned our room, didn't apologize, and claimed she couldn't check our order from the previous day. When we described the poor food quality and service, she dismissively said the food wasn't meant for Indians but for locals. This is unacceptable. We were visiting Kitty Hawk and are of Indian descent; we know how Indian food should taste. The owner's rudeness and lack of professionalism are inexcusable. While we wish to support small businesses, this is a prime example of rudeness, cheating customers, and providing poor quality food and service.

Amazing place! The food is delicious and the place is very clean! I love that we have diverse restaurants in the outer banks and this place is definitely one of my favorites!

Great spot for food. We had delicious chicken lettuce wraps & Chana masala. Perfect for takeout (ambiance is lacking). We will definitely be back.

The food here was absolutely amazing. We had the Chicken Tandoori and lettuce wraps. Some of the best we have had. Bonus, a visit to the business next door after dinner makes for a great date night.
