Hill Top Distillery

Acoustics are loud in here! Say what?? I said... oh never mind! Today this distillery was everything but still. Full of folks having a good times and getting into the "spirit" of things! If you are in the Goochland area, this cool distillery is worth a gander! As the name states, it's atop of a hill, surrounded by a forest in a rustic setting. There are two fire pits, which we snuggled around while we sipped our libations. Also a stage is on the grounds when there's live music here! Inside is small, a few tables, a bar, and shelves of hooch for sale! They offer other gifts as well, soaps, coffee, chocolates - I bought several!! We also purchased some of the blackberry moonshine they make, which the owner made into a nice presentation with a galvanized bucket and the other items we chose all wrapped up! It make a wonderful gift! The liquors are mostly bourbon whiskey, scotch, rye, vodka and moonshine. My hubby tried a flight, and I had a coffee/kahlua/whiskey drink - I'm not much of a liquor drinker, a bit strong for me, but it was pretty good! We also got a tour of the distillery and it was so cool seeing all the machinery and how the distilling process is done! The owners are super sweet and hospitable! We would definitely give this place another "shot" whenever we are in the neighborhood! I can't wait til it's warmer and they have live bands!!

This was our second visit, but first time with a Whiskey enthusiast. Our enthusiast was treated to 5 different tastings and loved one of their award winners. Seriously guys, they do Bourbon, Whiskey, Gin, Moonshine (flavors) and Vodka. I'm more of the summer frozen drink, but for those with a more discerning taste palate, this small town distillery does major damage in little ole Virginia. A absolute must visit for everyone!

Finally visited hill top distillery last week. Glad we did!Four adults shared three flights, which meant we could all try a wee taste of all their liquors except one. The owner poured for us and chatted while we stood at the bar to taste; he was very friendly and answered our questions about the spirits and told us about more of the origin of the distillery.I found all of the spirits to be incredibly smooth and drinkable. I loved the apple pie moonshine, the strawberry moonshine, the bourbon, and the maple whiskey. All of the non flavored spirits were good too, and would be worth stocking the bar with: gin, vodka, whiskey, single malt!After we tasted everything we all got a cocktail to enjoy outside in the nice lawn area under an umbrella. We also took home some strawberry moonshine! Yum!It was a lovely visit, and a fun place to bring family we had visiting from Scotland. We'll visit again!

One of our favorite distilleries in Virginia! John and Sherry, the owners and their son make amazing spirits. I mean, BlackBerry Gooch Hooch fresh out of the distillery! Must try and see for yourself!

Don't know how to rate them. Apparently they close at 5 and have never used Yelp. The hours in here are not accurate. Check the FB page for data.

Great adult beverages and straight drinks. A family run business that is fun to visit.April behind the bar is awesome. Explains all the drinks with a big smile.Food trucks are awesome.

I am not sure what they put in it, but hand down my favorite vodka around! Love the entertainment and the other spirts like the maple whiskey as well. Even better when there is live entertainment. Check it out and support a great business!

Met the team at the Christmas bazaar in Hampton Va. The moonshine itself was fairly good. However, what turned us off from purchase was the extremely rude elderly lady at the booth. We commented on their incredible packaging with their interesting shape, and wonderful label called "gooch hooch." We thought it was a great product name. She told us to "Get our mind out of the gutter." We originally thought she was being funny, but were promptly told she did not find our comments funny. Another member went to pick up a bottle on display. He was told to not touch the products due to Covid. Instead of saying please don't touch the bottles. She said "haven't you ever heard of COVID?" There was not a sign posted, we usually like to touch the bottle before we spend $70 on it. We were kind, respectful, and eager to learn about their products, yet they were the opposite. This drove several of our group members away from the booth. We decided to pass on purchasing their items and took our money elsewhere, spending a good chunk of change on bottles from another similar company at the bazaar. We never review businesses, but their attitude was so bad it brought our experience down considerably. We will avoid in the future.

Been to this place a bunch of times, always super friendly. Bought a ton of bottles. I guess something changed. They rang me up for $10 more than the menu price. When I asked about it she said she'll just put the bottle back lol. Good luck.
