So, picture this: it's a leisurely Sunday morning, and I stroll into Hair of a Dog--my second visit as I've been to another location downtown, because clearly, I'm a glutton for punishment (and mimosas). There was a bit of a wait, even though the place was barely half full. Now, let's talk about the mimosa flight. Oh boy, it was like sipping on a seasonal dessert. Each bubbly sip was a little taste of autumn joy with a side of "whoa, that packs a punch!" As for the food, I opted for the southwest omelet, which was... well, let's just say it was a solid player in the breakfast lineup. My companion, however, ordered the cookie dough pancakes, which I graciously helped finish. They were moist and dangerously delightful.Service? A tad slow, but hey, I was busy enjoying my boozy brunch. The ambiance could use a little sprucing up, but given the location near a major school, it's doing just fine. All in all, a fun way to kick off the day--bring on the mimosas!

Came here on a Sunday for brunch, expecting to be in and out once seated, since there were only two of us, but boy were we mistaken! Service was VERYYYYY slow - our waitress rarely checked in and seemed very distracted. 18% gratuity on all checks, so maybe she didn't feel the need to earn the tip. Decent amount of seating- nice outdoor patio. Some bar seating. A few TVs to show the football games that afternoon. I got the pleasure play (?) Benedict and it was just okay, needed more seasoning and the spinach had huge stems still on it- the home fries are clearly frozen and fried, not fresh potatoes. My husband got the big breakfast, which he said was okay - he did mention that the pancakes were very good. Overall, just an okay brunch - we'd probably choose to go somewhere else next time

Hair of the dog- I have learned now over the years is kind of touch and go! This used to be one of my favorite breakfast spots, and the only reason I keep trying them is because I have had some of my best dishes here .I had a boozy iced coffee flight- they definitely did not skip out on the liquor, however, a lot of it was a little bit too sweet for me.I ordered the Benedict flight and had to have it remade twice because they could not get the eggs correct. I ended up not eating most of it, because outside of the eggs it was still just as bad. However, I have had some of the dishes on the Benedict flight separately in the past and they have been phenomenal. I want to just say they were having an off day.

I was reading some of the reviews, and there was a lot that I agree with. The parking is a little limited being that it's in a high traffic area, so it's understandable. We were seated pretty quickly, and most of the seating is booth seating. Aside from the bar and a couple tables. I will say that it's a pretty loud environment, because people like to come in groups, especially since it's near the ODU campus. So if you are sensitive to loud restaurants or have someone who is sensory avoidant I don't recommend it. I ordered a breakfast burrito, and it wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't terrible. It was what I got, and I wasn't disappointed. I did, however, smother it in Texas Pete. My husband on the other hand, ordered the chicken and waffles, with a side of sweet potato fries. I want to say that this was my favorite part of the visit. I really liked the juiciness of the chicken, and the way that it tasted with the sweetness from the maple crust. I didn't have the waffle, but my husband said that he liked how savory it was. I also got to try the sweet potato fries, and I thought those were delicious as well. All in all this place was decent, it didn't disappoint, but I didn't WOW me either. I think it's a well-rounded restaurant, and if you were looking for somewhere to have brunch, this would be a good place they do have a bar, so if you're trying to have a boozy breakfast, you definitely can get that here.

Food wasn't great unfortunately, I got deviled eggs which we're definitely prepackaged store bought deviled eggs. the service however was wonderful. The ambiance is dark and kinda lacks liveliness. Not a must visit while in Virginia.

Decent brunch spot right near the college so it can get a little rowdy. They have a large bar and some seating. Hard to park because they don't have their own parking lot. The food was good but a little pricey. They have these large drinks where yoy can fit a whole bottle of champagne and share with others. The service was quick and nice. We sat at the bar and got right in. I got the breakfast burrito and it was flavorful but not the best. Still a nice breakfast/lunch spot.

Food is great. The waffle had a nice twist infused with meat. They charge a mandatory 18% gratuity, and get great service. Restroom is clean next to the kitchen.

Good drinks, okay food. My husband really liked the meatloaf here. I'm not sure why, but the Gent location has been my favorite of the three locations that I've visited thus far. Even though it smelled funny and sometimes they don't have champagne for mimosas. The flatbread breakfast pizza was better at the other two locations, not sure why. The ODU one seems to have odd hours. But I love the environment here, it's not crowded. We appreciated the quick and friendly service! It's a place you could hang at and enjoy good company without being pushed out the door.

I decided to give this place a whirl for breakfast. It's right off the campus of Old Dominion University and looked really good and the menu looked interesting.I sat at the bar since I was by myself. The bartender took my drink order and left me with the specials menu and the regular menu. The specials seemed like they'd be good, Oktoberfest-themed, but since I'm stationed in Germany it wouldn't be fair to review this place based off their seasonal specials.I stuck to the basics, a sweet tea and Chesapeake Benedict. The sweet tea was overly sweet, almost bordering on syrup. As for the Benedict, it looked great but had its flaws. As an example, when I cut into the poached eggs I expected the yolk to seep down into the biscuit. The poached egg was overcooked and I didn't get the yolky richness. As for the crab, it was there but was overpowered by the bacon. The two proteins didn't harmonize together. And my last bit of harshness, the hollandaise, if it was on the plate you couldn't taste it. As for the cheesy grits as a side, perfect consistency and the queso-like cheese sauce made the grits very creamy. As for the service, it was quite slow. It seemed to take a really long time get my food which might have led to the eggs being overdone. I might come back to give this place another shot.***Update***As promised I returned to this joint to give it another shot. This time I ordered the chicken and waffles (a house specialty) and it didn't disappoint. Though parts of the fried chicken were a little over-salted the entire meal had good flavor. The waffle had the right texture and the bacon infusion didn't overpower the waffle flavor. The candied bacon on top was a little much for me, but I could see how some would like it. The service at the bar was much better this go-around. I did notice the bartender added an 18% gratuity which affected my tip at the end. Overall, I'll update my rating and give it another star.
