We recently had lunch at Guads Mexican Restaurant in the Hilltop area of Virginia Beach and we mostly enjoyed our experience. I love good Mexican food and when I find a place that serves it consistently, I tend to stick with them. Unfortunately for Guads, they sometimes run hot and cold. I've had some really good food there, and some marginal at best items as well. It gives me no pleasure to have to complain to the manager about a bad food situation, that really ruins my experience. When I do feel the need to make a complaint, I try to do so in a constructive manner. I'm not looking for any special treatment or anything like that. It's more to help them become aware of their shortcomings, so hopefully they can make some positive changes. It really gets me upset when something comes out cold and a new plate is sitting in front of me in less than 5 minutes. We both know that you put it in a microwave. I don't want that. Do it right or don't do it at all...

This place has a good Mexican ambiance with the decor and whatnot, but I feel like it lacks in actual Spanish food. The food is a bit bland, and the meat can be a bit tough. I really enjoyed their salsa though. Definitely one of my favorites I've had around here. If you are ordering the red enchiladas though, I recommend not. The sauce has a bit of a tomato flavor that usually you wouldn't normally have. I wish there were better Mexican places around here, but I suppose I'll still be on the lookout.

One of the worst lunches I've ever had in a Mexican restaurant. Bland and flavorless are both understatements. The chili rellenos are not even traditional chili rellenos, they were over cooked poblanos with greasy white American cheese inside, covered in tomato water. It was literally inedible. My husband got chimichangas, which he ordered beef but was brought out chicken. The chicken was clearly boiled and was completely unseasoned. The server never once offered more chips and salsa, and we had were a party of 4. I have no idea how they stay in business with such terrible food and lackluster service. Don't waste your money.

Guads Mexican Restaurant is located in the Hilltop Plaza Shopping Center. I've passed the place countless times over the years, but never made the time to come in until recently. It is located near Trader Joe's and Ulta Beauty (where JoAnn Fabrics used to be located). There is ample parking in the area, but some of the parking spots are pretty skinny. Both vehicle and pedestrian traffic can be busy at times, especially around the Trader Joe's. My visit to Guads Mexican Restaurant was on October 21, 2020.As noted above, I've passed this place several times over the years, but never made a visit there until this year. I'm not sure why I haven't been in sooner. What brought us to the area was due to an appointment my mom had at the DMV to have her license renewed.We got there around 4:30 pm that day and it was empty at the time. This is not unusual for us to go somewhere before places get busy, especially given the current environment we are in. When you first come in, there is hand sanitizer available. Both staff and guests are required to wear masks, but guests can remove their masks while seated at the table. We were immediately greeted and got to a table. Our server asked us what we wanted to drink and gave us menus to look over. We were also given chips and salsas as well, which is typical for this type of restaurant. This place offers Pepsi products. After he came back with our drinks, we were pretty much ready to order. The first part of the order was cheese dip. I ended up going with the Mexican Pizza with chicken as the protein for my entrée. My mom went with the Taco Loco with shrimp.Our server did great giving us time to indulge in the cheese dip before the entrées came out. It was about ten minutes later when the food came out. The Mexican Pizza with chicken was really good. It may look small when looking at photos, but it packs a good amount of food. I was full and then some when I was done. My mom liked the Taco Loco with shrimp as well (taco salad). Likewise, it may look small in photos, but there's quite a bit in a small shell so to speak. Our server did check up on us a few times to make sure all was good and they did great with keeping up on drink refills too.Overall, food and service were great at this location from this first visit. Food and service are the biggest factors when it comes to returning to a restaurant in the future. When I am in this area again in the future around lunch or dinner time, I will definitely consider coming back here again and again. So, if you are looking for a Mexican restaurant in this area, this is definitely a great place worth checking out.

Horrible ServiceCame in and waited patiently to be seated then when seated was ignored for way to long, finally when we asked to order we were ignored once againI don't know why we were treated this way but we were treated horrible , no drinks , chips, food , anything in till we had to ask 3 times to be helpedWaited 30 minutes for drinks another 20 for chips and an hour for drinks HORRIBLE SERVICE
