This is part of a campus of inns that circle a golf course, so there is plenty of picturesque walking to be done. We stayed in the green building, which is dog friendly. The room was large, if a bit dated. But it had a huge vanity and closet area, a fireplace, and a balcony. The indoor pool and hot tub were a pleasant surprise for a winter visit. It also has tennis courts, a better than average gym (with cold face towels!), and a spa. Overall, a nice place to stay in an historic part of town, very close to several great restaurants.

The hotel has a perfect location to historic Williamsburg so that is definitely a plus. The place itself seems to have seen better times- I have been there eight years ago and it looks as if not much has been done to upkeep. We had a power issue due to weather and although I called twice to have someone fix the air conditioning. After two hours no one has shown up and we had a room with a non functioning ac. On the plus side - I appreciated the sparkling cider to welcome us that was a wonderful surprise.

Nice (if slightly aging) hotel with large rooms and amazing balconies that did a great job hosting our family of four to visit Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. We wanted a place that would comfortably host our family of four (a 1-bedroom suite would have been even better) while we visited Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens and this fit the bill both allowing us to walk into Colonial Williamsburg and having the space to really exist. The room itself was large with two queen beds and a sleeper sofa so that there were actually enough beds--one for each kid and one for the adults. The hotel was nicely secluded in a wooded area away from the bulk of the hubbub of Colonial Williamsburg and our room had a huge, open balcony with a great view looking out through the trees. We ate dinner out there both nights and also the adults used it as an evening refuge after we put the kids down so we had some time and space to ourselves. The downside is that the room was dark and a bit dated. On the second morning we discovered that we didn't have an caffeinated coffee, which was a bit ablated by having caffeinated tea, but still a downer.

A friend and I met up for a weekend to memorialize a friend we just lost. This was the perfect place for us to think about her and also have a very calm weekend. Of course the weekend we chose ended up being 97 degrees every day but let me tell you, the Griffin's air conditioning did not disappoint. Our room was cold and comfortable. And speaking of the room- it was delightful. We were on the first (main?) floor which was great because with my knee I would have had an issue lugging my luggage (huh. I think I just got that word) up and down stairs. There is no elevator. We had a balcony that opened onto the back pond where a fountain ran from 7am until maybe 10pm? One day we grabbed sandwiches from the Cheese shop and came back to the room to nosh and a group of geese came over to give us a show. It was just so incredibly serene. It was heavenly. Also heavenly- the pillows. The pillows were so squishy but supportive. In the late afternoon, we went to the spa to Bob around in the tranquil pool which was worth the price of admission alone. It was mostly adults. It was mostly quiet, and everyone kept their respective distance. I can't overstate just how delightful that pool was. I have been home for a week now and I think, if the pool is open til mid September, I am going to take my husband down there. Also, they're apparently dog friendly which is great. I had just the greatest, most relaxing stay. I can't wait to come back.

4 stars overall but 3 stars for the price.I am extremely grateful and thankful to my sister for sharing with us this opportunity and including us.Overall this resort is spectacular in the location location location department! It is tucked away from the hustle and bustle but literally walking distance to colonial Williamsburg. We walked one to two streets over and we were right on Dukeof Gloucester street. The Griffin resort is part of the Colonial Williamsburg resorts and affiliated with Williamsburg Inn and a short walk over next door. So you're able to enjoy the grounds there as well!Williamsburg Inn is the highest tier of the rest of the CW resorts and even more expensive. We only used our car once to drive to an escape room 12 minutes away. If you do want to be dropped off and picked up in Colonial Williamsburg or need a ride, they have a free shuttle that runs until 10pm. The Williamsburg Inn grounds are BEAUTIFUL! We spent more time there and made reservations for dinner at The Terrace. The other plus is with golf tee times and maybe even restaurant reservations, guests receive special preference. The Griffin hotel does have large, spacious clean rooms. They also have the extra sink outside the bathroom which is quite useful if one needs to just wash their hands, do oral care or freshen up. The balcony in the green wing on the pond side is enormous and is absolutely lovely. Our room had a pull out sofa, an armchair and a desk chair and writing table. Even with the two queen beds and all the furniture there was plenty of room to relax in the room or the balcony! This resort would be a great place to celebrate a birthday with a small group of four or six people because you can hang out In the room without feeling like you're on top of each other. If you get a balcony on the pond side you have even more room to chill outside with some privacy and listen to the fountains in the pond. There are fountains lights that come on at night to view the lake. They have a keurig with k cups on a dresser, a small fridge in the closet at a higher level which is nice so you don't have to stoop down. Also a safe is available. Unfortunately there is no microwave which would have been super nice considering the high price point on this resort. The things I love the most about our room was the size, cleanliness and proximity and beautiful surrounding grounds. The things I was disappointed with was the quality of toilet paper, Scott's tissue paper? Come on! I KNOW they can do better with this! You're a high star resort I expect quality toilet paper. I also was sad that the furnishings inside the room weren't as luxurious, it was quite spartan and plain Jane. I know this makes me sound like a complete brat, but if you look at the room costs, one WOULD expect there to be a high bar that is placed on room aesthetics. Also breakfast was NOT included. I was thinking about this and I think the two "free" CW tickets aren't really free. Then again is anything ever truly free? You're actually paying for it in the price of the hotel and the location. The Griffin Hotel grounds have access to the Basset nature trail which we were going to walk the day after we checked in, however we decided the trail was too muddy and there were plenty of people walking with their dogs once we started the path. We turned back around and left. If you book with a CW resort you receive TWO free tickets to colonial Williamsburg for the length of your stay. I inquired later that night about a shuttle to attend a ghost walk. One of the employees stated it was not that far of a walk and directed us how to get there by foot. I was a bit put off by this because I was exhausted from walking all day and for personal reasons, a shuttle would have been a bit of a reprieve. I have a feeling that when she asked if it was one of "their" ghost tours and I said no, that she made the executive decision for us to just walk. I should have said something because she didn't actually answer my question on obtaining the free shuttle. We are paying guests after all. I honestly didn't want to go into detail about my legitimate reason for wanting a ride. So we just walked. If you don't mind paying a high price for location and want to be away from the high traffic of Richmond road then this resort is for you! But if you want more perks included like breakfast and a decent sized room is adequate, any of the hotels on Richmond road will suffice. Did I enjoy my stay here? Absolutely! But a little more embellished furnishings would have been nice to make us feel like we had moved on up with that price point. Tips: they email you the two free CW tickets the morning of your check in between 8am-9am so you can use them. If you need additional tickets you can purchase them and get a discount with proof of a CW hotel reservation/registration. Griffin hotel does NOT have elevators/lifts

We were very pleased with our stay at this hotel. It was far enough away from the hubbub but close enough to walk to everything or hop on the bus in a more contemporary hotel. We had a romance package for our anniversary and they personalized it to us and it was just perfect. I couldn't have asked for more. We loved our stay and will definitely be back. I love visiting Colonial Williamsburg

This is a $120/night room, not $300 that we paid.No front desk, no staff around, no common area for breakfast. No pool, despite the ads stating that it has one. (The pool is at another hotel about 0.4 mile away.)The location is not marked accurately on their map. It is NOT at 302 Francis Street, but it's at the end of the road near the Bassett Trace Nature Trail.Corridors were confusing. Very few wayfinding signs. The room was nice and large.Beds were comfortable.Bathrooms were average. Typical shower/tub combination.I probably will not return.

This hotel needs to be shut down until it can be updated. The entire place smells. Not sure if it's mold. It has a musty carpet smell in the room and hall way. They have a cold drink machine that is empty. Stains all over carpets. Would never stay here again. Our key card stopped working so we had to go over to the Williamsburg inn to get another card. They don't light the path that you take to walk over to the Inn. The Inns path its lite up like a Christmas tree and when you turn to go to the patch to griffin you have to use your phone.Update. Went to use there outdoor seating. Unusable the seats were all Moldy full of dirt. Also the vending machines are broke and there's a note that wants you to go all the way to the hotel across the street from the spa.Every day we tried to use the pool it was closed because of thunderstorms. All 3 days

The room was nice ish. We paid for two queen beds and got two fulls. The couch in the room looks like it's never been cleaned and the pill out bed was old and gross. Parking is also a joke. The beds are also hard as rock so if you have back issues you're gonna feel like death the next day. Also the pillows are horrible. It's almost like this is a reject hotel and they care more about the big fancy hotel. There's only food in the big hotel not family friendly big hotel there is no pool on the site. You have to drive to their spa to use the only family pool they have.

My wife and I went to Colonial Williamsburg for our honeymoon and have been returning for 48 years. Over that time, we have stayed in many of the on-site lodging venues including the Williamsburg Inn, the Lodge, two colonial houses, and, most recently, the Griffin Hotel (green side). We found the property to be quite lovely. It is located within walking distance of the myriad points of interest in Colonial Williamsburg but is secluded enough to provide a private, quiet experience. We booked a pond view room which gave us a view of two bodies of water from our patio and double glass sliding doors. The ponds provided a peaceful respite from the cares of the day. Both bodies of water have fountains that provide a soothing white noise background while enjoying a glass of wine on the patio, The upper pond is completely clear. The lower pond has a generous coating of duck weed that is cleared by the centrally located fountain providing a focal point on which one may focus while relaxing from the activities of the day. The plantings around the ponds was well done. The room we had was very large with a comfortable king bed, sofa, wing back chair, and a small table with two chairs. There was an adequately sized TV with enough channels to satisfy our viewing preferences. Linens were changed daily and there was a generous supply of towels and toiletries. The decor of the room can best be described as modern vintage. While there were a few cosmetic issues, none would warrant a negative comment. Everything in the room worked well. The only issue we had was that the TV remote needed new batteries, a problem that was solved with a simple phone call. We thoroughly enjoyed the vibe.We will certainly return to the Griffin Hotel - most likely at my birthday later in the year.
